    Part Apple Part User

    • Written by from Highlands Ranch

I purchased an early 2010 MBP 15" and the power adapter was the older "direct in" type. I got the recall notice for the adapter a few months ago, but had never had an issue with my power adapter.

I guess it's a matter of understanding power cords. My wife even struggles with them: due to the multiple wires inside the cord, you have to "train" the power cord to roll up correctly. Don't keep twisting the power cord or one of those internal wires will eventually break. Probably because two power wires cannot occupy the same space in the universe. This is common to every power cord, NOT just Apple's Mag Safe power adapters. I know people like to demand that Apple provide a product that NO ONE can break but that's just not possible. Maybe Apple should provide a training course on how to roll up the power cord?

Great adapter in my mind. Love the new 90 degree offset.

4 year old original model and still kicking...

    • Written by from Vancouver

I'm not sure what most, unhappy folks do with your power adapters. I have a 13" Mac Book Pro which I take everywhere with me (to and from for each day). Four years into it and I am still using the original 'old' style power adapter. It shows no signs of wear a tear near the magnetic connector.

Interesting comments. Thank you, as you surprised me! My three here old cord works like a trooper. At times, it gets a bit hot [after a long day and night] its expected. But, 'never as HOT as any friend's dell or HP, etc. The only reason it needs replacing, my son's pup chewed it up. ~I am sure the new one will serve me well.

    Take Care of It

    • Written by from New York

I have owned Macs up the wazoo. I have never had an adapter, of any of the many variations die on me. If yours dies it is probably your fault. The adapters cannot overcome the laws of physics. Most people treat these like they are made of iron. Sharp bends, pressure on joints, cable being pulled because it is passing underneath the laptop and it sits there for hours... etc etc etc. Take care of it. Use the brackets to wrap it and always make sure that cord is loose at all connecting points. It will not die on you. Magsafe has saved my laptop so many times... just that is worth the money.

    MagSafe Feature is Wonderful

    • Written by from San Francisco

I've had this power adapter for years now and never had a problem. It seems very well-made. And the MagSafe feature is just amazing. There's been a few times when I've tripped over the cord and this feature probably saved my MacBook -- that alone is well worth the price.

    Not bad :)

I like it. I had an issue with my old one that was causing the computer to crash completely almost eveytime I plugged it in. After hours of waiting at the mac store for help we finally figured out it was the charger that had something wrong with it, not the computer. I'm still on the same computer, but different charger. So far so good. It seems to be working fine now. I however, do not like how small the charger part is, I think thats part of what the problem was. It seems they could break easily, although with my new one I have not had an issue, so as long as you are careful with it it should be fine. As with anything, mac is always good with their products and replacements. They replaced my charger absolutely free after I had all the issues.

I have mine for 3 years now and works fine so far. It is small, light and the magnet conector is great. I dont like to take care of these kind of things and always let it down on the floor, then it is hard to be broken. Awesome.

Great innovative design and very portable

    • Written by from Shoreline

I enjoy Apple's chargers. Mine died last night after two years of use. Because I had apple care, I called up tech support and they are sending out a new cord set to arrive the next business day. This is regardless of the fact that I bought the computer in the US and now live in Spain. The local support spoke great English.
Apple's power adapter is smaller than any other brands I have seen and because it can plug into the wall directly at the adapter, it stays a lot cooler than any adapter I've used with other computers. Because of it's design where the prongs fold into the adapter, and the cable that connects to my computer winds around fold out hooks, the entire device compacts to smaller than half the size of just the power adapter of my previous dell, not to mention the cables. Also, the innovative magnetic release is a wonderful safety feature. Both my wife and I have laptops that we use at home on couches and tables regularly and that leads to spread across the floor. These get snagged or tugged or tripped on and pop off instead of pulling the computer. Yet they are firm enough that the computer can be easily moved around without worrying about the cable coming off.
Despite daily use and travel, winding and unwinding, it never frayed or cracked or flaked. Even with the occasional (once or twice) overheating because a blanket accidentally got pulled over it.

    power cord

    • Written by from Whitehorse

I have just read many of the reviews on the power cord as I am about to purchase a new one since my old one is about to die. I have owned my mac book for about 4 years and this is the 1st piece of equipment from the original purchase that needs replacing. The cord is starting to fray badly but this is to be expected, I think, after 4 years of a lot of use. I also travel full time through work (and personal) so the cord has continuously been thrown around in backpacks & suitcases. If this is how long my old one lasted, I look fwd to the new and improved one! Thanks Apple.
p.s...the old one, if placed properly, still works too!

    Apple Quality Through and Through

    • Written by from Brewster

I really don't know what these people that are giving this cord one or two stars are doing. For crying out loud it's a power cord! It is not the computer itself! How hard can this be?! Apple can only do so much to make it idiot proof, but some of you have really stretched the definition. If you have any doubts as to whether it's the right tool stop being such a pompous jerk and ask an expert at Apple!

This cord is very well made. I love the magnetic breakaway cord. Having owned a pc for years, and having to replace the power cord on every on of them because of poor quality or some tripping over it, this cord is a Godsend. For the rest of you... Grow up!

    I love It and I don't Understand...

    • Written by from Chiapa de Corzo

So, I don't understand really all this reviews... Look, I will try to explain with examples.

I am owner of some dedicated servers from a particular NOC (Network Operation Center). Now, many former clients complained because this provider suspended their Servers while my Account is always working perfectly.

Talking with the CEO of this hosting company I realized that all this account were suspended because they were abusing the provider's AUP and TOS... of course if you misuse a service or a product soon or later is going to be broken!

    Same thing with Computers!

Now, I own more than 6 Macs, and I never had troubles. While in Texas for job, I closed the connector out of my bag and with the Zip I damaged it. My bad! The MagSafe stopped to work and also the battery stopped to charge fully.

I had to change it after to weeks because the cord was really and seriously damaged.

After I changed the MagSafe, my "Travel" MacBook (2007) work perfectly and the Charge of the Battery last more.

So, due to my fault I had to change the MagSafe... that lasted a lot and the new one is working perfectly! So it's true that WE make the QUALITY of it! If we treat things good they will last a lot but if we use them as TRASH, they are going to finish inside the Trash Can!

The product is worthy all the money I spent for it and I know I am going to have care of it to preserve it.

Not sure what people are complaining about here or how do they manage to burn power adapters so quickly. Perhaps consider a power surge protector to use with this adapter will be what is all needed. I use that in most of every power socket in my home to protect my equipment.

    MagSafe Adapter

    • Written by from Green Valley

I don't know what people are doing to their power cords, but I've had this for a year now and have had absolutely no problems with it. I've taken it overseas, to crummy motels, to sketchy coffee shops, and of course in my hole of an apartment. I'm a graduate student and put daily abuse on both the computer and this adapter, and I have never had a problem. My cat has even chewed on it, and it still works fine. 5 stars!
