    Awefull design

I've changed two adapters already (and this is $200 total) in three years - both frayed in the same places.

Apple should be ashamed of making such a horrible product which is absolutely throwaway. You will be lucky if it last a year.

Recently purchased a 2015 MBP w/ Retina. Great computer, BAD MagSafe 2.

    • Written by from FORT LAUDERDALE

Apple, please, please, please reconsider the design of the MagSafe 2. When you introduced the original "T" shaped design, customers complained and you reintroduced the same connector, but with an "L" shaped design that could wrap around the back of the computer or down the left side. For whatever reason, you reverted back to the "T" shape---a proven to be inferior design. Please revert back to the old L shape.

    As bad as everyone says

    • Written by from Hammond

If I could rate less than 1 star I would have. It is disgraceful that this continues to be included with the original apple products. I have had two previous macsbooks over the last 15 years and have NEVER had to replaced a charger or cord until purchasing (less than 90 days ago) a new macbook pro with the MagSafe2 - complete junk! Nothing has changed, not where or how I charge my computer the only difference is the equipment-junk! I have and will continue warn others to steer clear of this if you can-otherwise you will be replacing it. For the record I do not PULL on the cord - I know how to correctly disconnect the charger.

Used with great care, but did not survive one year

    • Written by from Zoetermeer

The thin part (the part with the magsafe) slowly breaks off at the adapter. The thick part is still in great shape though, so why did Apple choose to make this thin part so fragile? My Macbook is not even a year old and I always used the adapter with great care (though I do travel on a daily basis). If I need to do this every year, owning a Macbook becomes very expensive..

Great design but must be handled correctly

    • Written by from Livingston

A lot of complaints here but I sincerely believe that those people are handling the charger incorrectly. The way to disconnect it from the computer is NOT TO PULL. Simply place your finger under the magnet where it connects to the computer and lift up, tilting the magnet away from the desk. This will easily and gently disconnect the power from the computer, not injure the cord (you don't even touch the cord with this technique), and the charger will be in perfect condition for a very long time.

I have had the magsafe 2 charger and the macbook pro for quite a long time and I travel with it. The charger is in perfect condition because of the way I handle it.

    Good luck!!!

    Not durable at all

    • Written by from Princeton

Could give a 0-star if possible. Merely one year has passed and the end of the cord that connects to the power adaptor is done, worn out totally. I suggest those Apple engineers: 1. redesign this adaptor, instead of a whole "adaptor+cord" design, make it detachable with small parts (adaptor, cord with USB interface, etc.), the part that are easily worn out (e.g. the cord) should be replaced separately at its own cost; 2. please make its quality match its price.

Apple needs to fire the engineer who designed this cord. This is my FOURTH TIME purchasing this freaking power cord in THREE YEARS because it keeps fraying at the weak points (at the brick and the connector). PLEASE do us all a favor and REDESIGN this charger.

    Not durable

    • Written by from Hemet

Why does the MagSafe Adapter cord have to be so cheap and flimsy? Even under normal use it is easily kinked and damaged. Why not make the entire cord thick and durable? Or at least offer a choice between the current lightweight, non durable cord or a heavyweight durable cord. I would rather have the extra bulk than have to replace the cord frequently. At least lower the price since apparently Apple thinks this is a disposable piece. I really think it will be worth a try to find a non apple replacement. Going to look on Amazon now.

Even worse than the previous magsafe design!

    • Written by from Lake Oswego

I bought a new macbook pro about 3 months ago. I was excited to see that the charger design was different but it didn't take more than 5 minutes to realize that the magsafe2 design is MUCH worse than the original magsafe design. For some reason, my wall outlets are always to the right when I need to use my MacBook Pro, and naturally, the charger plug on the macbook pro is on the lefthand side. The previous magsafe charger on my last macbook had a much slimmer design so it could lay flat against the side where it was plugged in. It wasn't the best design, but I'd take it over the magsafe2 any day! The magsafe2 on the other hand sticks straight out when you plug it in so unless you have your MacBook Pro positioned just right next to your wall outlet then there will be a good chance that the wires will bend and break. Oh, and if you have dogs at home like I do then you can forget about keeping it plugged in while you are working! My dog can walk by me and barely touch the cord and it falls out! Terrible design. I never thought I'd miss the old one so much... Apple, look at your reviews on this product and PLEASE fix this issue. I love your products! But I have a hard time believing that a company that invented something as innovative as the iPod can't create a better charger than this... I hate to complain and I never leave negative reviews, but something had to be said about this design. Please fix it.

magnet and slim design good, price and easily broken is bad

    • Written by from Brooklyn

Magnetic function is awesome and a great a idea. it simply comes off when yanked at an angle up or down but can be dragged across the table by the strong magnet, so clearly its just angles. LOL.

price is way too high and the wires need to be strong and method of wrapping around square power thing should be better.

    Frayed yet again...

    • Written by from Holland

Sick and tired of spending another $80 on these horrible power adapters every two years because of fraying until they no longer work. Apparently there was a replacement offered for these a while back - someone should have told my local Apple store, because when I went two years ago no one mentioned that and I had to buy a new one, and now I'm about to have to go in again because this one is so frayed that it no longer works.

This adapter didn't even last a one whole month. It's a serious issue, apple. Do not sell a low-quality adapter with a very unreasonable price. It's a pain to buy another one and encounter the same thing. Let us have some better choices to choose from.

I bought my 2nd power cord within 2 and 1/2 years today. That's 3 cords including the cord that was included in the original laptop purchase. All of my previous cords have stopped working due to fraying in the same place. I also do not like the magnetized feature. The cord often disconnects from my laptop when I move the laptop and that can be annoying at times.

    • Written by from PROVIDENCE

You would think after all of the 1 star reviews that apple would fix the wire issues. Always the same issues. The wiring at the top fried and I have to keep taping it with electrical tape. Even then it shorts out a day or two later. Unacceptable apple. And 80 dollars for a new one??? Come on.

"It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time." -- Quote from the actual description. Are you kidding me? In what way does ANY of this design prevent fraying? Are you trying to tell me it takes 12 months instead of 6? For the cost of these computers you should not have to pay an additional annual fee of $100 just to get a new charger, that's ridiculous. These chargers are a piece of junk and careful or not they're going to fray. Anyone who says to just leave the cable on the desk should probably have a desktop not a laptop if that's how they're using their computer because the whole point of a laptop is that you are able to take it with you but if you can't take the cable because it's going to fray then it's just not worth it. GARBAGE.
