    Product Defective

I really wanted the device to work, but that was not the case. I could not set up the device through the Airport Utility, it continued to say that there was an unexpected error. I was able to connect with my iPhone and set it up, but only the WiFi worked. Sent hours trying to figure it out. Worst Apple product experience I've had, and I've had a lot of Apple products. It was returned today.

A colossal (and expensive) piece of junk

2TB Time Capsule: Wireless capabilities disappeared shortly after purchase (were intermittent for a while) and now it doesn't even connect when physically plugged in via an ethernet cable to my MBP. Extremely disappointed in such an expensive HDD. Save your money and buy something else!

    Slows internet speed

I love apple products so much but i am very shocked on this one. The airport time capsule is very good with backups but the problem is it slows down the internet connection so badly. My internet is usually fast but with airport time capsule its so slow and also sometimes it disconnects from the devices that connects to it. Now all i do is whenever i need backup i switch it on then back up my computer or else its off and i use my normal internet to get the best speed ;'( .

Can't even get it to work

I followed the set up instructions. The computer can be connected to the Airport Time Capsule but there is no internet connection, despite all the green lights. I waited for more than 20 min and tried resetting. Finally, I had to switch back to the older Airport Time Capsule and back to internet. What is the usual set up time once you connect the WAN port cable? Thanks.

    Useless

This thing is useless in all aspect except maybe as a network router (and not even wireless). First it will back-up your info but you can never ever restore from it actually. Good for storing versions of documents, but if you ever try to recover a computer or upgrade to a new computer, it will never work. I've had 2 different Time Capsules and tried both to upgrade to a new computer and both times it failed so I just had to manually transfer my data. The wireless is slow and terrible. The router constantly will disappear from the network making time machine backups impossible until you restart the router by unplugging and replugging. Just get another router and attach a NAS.

Great job @ $50 a year - which hits technology upgrade point

This is my third time capsule in about 15 years. It serves as a router (incoming WAN from cable modem to HP LAN switch); wireless access point (part of a wireless canopy with 3 airport express); and time machine target. This purchase replaced a Time Capsule from 2008. Installation was a no brainer. I left the other Time Capsule powered up. When I started the new Time Capsule, it asked if I wanted to copy the settings from the old Time Capsule. Click Yes. Done.

It does its job beautifully. The backups - Time Machine - from the macs in the house has never failed. I've used it only half a dozen times over the years, but when you need it, you need it.

It is a consumer grade product which means expect it to last about 5 years or so.

    Nice!

Pros - I am an Apple product lover, but was very sceptical about this Time capsule. The set up was very simple and easy. The range was superior to any other wifi I had prior. The speed as well was super fast with all 8 of my Apple products in my house. I would recommend this to anyone.

Cons - I thought the Time capsule would be able to be used to backup ALL apple products, iPhones included. I was wrong. Only for Mac computers. I recommend in the future that iPhones can be backed up on here(but then why would we have to pay for the cloud). Lastly I just couldn't get the time capsule to work with my current router as a range extender.

Had to take it back - useless

So I had the last version, but I don't think these problems have been fixed.
It backs up every hour - you cannot tell it to just back up at night. Every hour, it slows your internet to a crawl for every internet machine in the house. Horrifying. And you cannot tell it to just back up once a day or once a week. I went to the genius bar in person to check on this. Horrible. So your internet keeps going slow every hour. It cannot back up without slowing the connection. It is a useless machine. I returned it - got an Airport Extreme (good) and got a backup hard drive elsewhere.

    Do not buy this!

Amazing! All wifi gripes eliminated immediately!

This little guy was an absolutely wonderful investment. All of my gripes and complaints about my wifi network (slow speed, poor range, cutting out) are gone. I can't recommend this machine enough. Plug and play- in just a few simple steps, my brand new network was ready to go, as was my Time Machine backup. A must-have for tech enthusiasts, pros, and beginners alike.

Love Apple / Even though I lost my memories PUN INTENDED! Returning Mañana

I purchased this AirPort Time Capsule as an emergency where I had to send iMac to apple so I needed to back up my files,... I got this out of box with the easy to set up feature but!!!!!!!!!! Later was warned that this device is not meant to be used as an external drive. AND,... it is a stand a lone router meaning you can't plug this device in thinking it will generate an ip address and just work. no no no honey,... I love apple till death but rocking to the beat of your own drum all the time is getting annoying. I was warned DON NOT save files to this unit like and external,... it is only meant for backing up 1 - 10 computers via time capsule AND through the use of the Wifi ofr internet. THAT is it. so after I was warned,.... now that my photos and music from since my third Mac days 2001,... and now memories and all gone. The folders are grey but damaged. Please please stop advertising this as a WiFi Router and external drive in one. it is a Wifi TimeMachine back up unit. Where is Steve when I need him

    Best router and backup drive!

I got this after numerous configurations of Airport Extremes and Airport Expresses, and just as it says, it set up almost instantly and seamlessly. Faster speeds, quick wireless backuos, instant recognition of my printers and Air Play devices without a concern. Well worth the price and the minimal effort!

    Fabulous router

    Fabulous!!
Easy to setup, great signal strength, 802.11ac is a huge improvement and the time capsule is soooo easy to work with and fast.
I stored 300GB in a few hours. Setup took less than 15 minutes, plug and play. This is the only way to go for a home network and fast wireless.

Failed me when I needed it

Do not trust this product. I needed to restore from backup and it took 36 hours. Then it lost the start-up disk. I had to reinstall OS X, and now all sorts of things are missing or are different from what they were supposed to be.

This product is supposed to revert your system back to a point of time. It completely failed me when I needed it to work. I regret trusting it.

Ready to give up on time capsule!

I am not really enjoying my time capsule! The 1st one that I purchased the Wi-Fi was faster than the cable modem that came with my service but as soon as I tried to back up one of my Mac it stop at 15% and said hard disk is damage and needs repair. I took that one back the next day to my local Apple store where they swapped it out when I told the associate what had happen she stated to back up my Mac’s for the first time via Ethernet. Once I set up the new time capsule it had a hard time staying connected with my internet and I got the say error again (hard disk needs repair) even with me trying the Ethernet back up.
So back to the Apple store I go!!!!

    2 Issues with Time Capsule

Actually, OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 UNDID my wireless access to backup - I now have to be connected to my Airport Time Capsule (an older version) via ethernet. So backups are not happening automatically (my only cable is old, broken tab, needs to be carefully set up) my data is at risk. Looked for help on forum, just found others with same issue. Also - have not understood how the wi-fi router in Time Capsule is supposed to work with the wireless router that brings internet into my house: my ISP people tell me that the two routers will simply "fight with each other", undermining my internet delivery. Wish I could find answers more easily about this product.

3 years later and still runs perfect

Got this three years ago as a way for me to back up my hard drive, and to use as a router as I was going off to school. I have never had a single issue or problem with it. The router capabilities are fantastic and it significantly increases the range for the internet. Tried a WD backup but had a few issues with it, so decided to upgrade to this. Love it and still do.

    Do Not Recommend

Well, I'll keep this short and professional. I have owned my Time Capsule for one year and eight months. Last month it started haveing a error code saying it was overheating, I took it into Apple they looked at it told me the fan was out and can't be fixed. Of course it is past the one year; I do not feel this product is a wise investment. I would also say I am a huge Apple fan but haveing some bad luck with their products lately losing faith in Apple.

    Amazing difference with Apple Engineering

I just recently purchased a Western Digital "My Cloud" to use with the family of Macintosh products that I have at my house. I was intrigued by it's low price point, Macintosh compatibility, and variety of access features that it advertised. It did not take long to see, and I'm technologically proficient, how terrible not only the setup was, but also it's performance. It was slow, multiplied by a labyrinth of different setup procedures that left you guessing if you were taking full advantage of it's functionality or not. Needless to say I took the Western Digital back to the store.

I then purchased this Airport Extreme with 2TB time capsule and took it home with me. Within 10-15 minutes, I had disabled my current wireless gateway, configured the airport, and it was immediately backing up all of my devices. Incredible! I love the simplicity that comes with well engineered Apple products. Also, even though I didn't need a new wireless router, I am appreciating the AC technology as it backs up incredibly fast!!!!

    Nice job Apple!!!
