    Huge improvement on coverage

Have owned the TC for about 6 months now and loving it. Wireless range is significantly improved as well as slight increase in download speed. Our unit supports 2 apple Tv's, 2 iPads and 2 MB Pro's without a hiccup, most times streaming simultaneously. Can't wait to try the MIMO architecture once we updated some devices. Well done Apple.

    Time Capsul Quick Setup

Just purchased the time capsul today. Took me less than 5 minutes to set up and I didn't even read the instructions! Speed seems pretty fast, definately faster than my old dlink.

    Not reliable

I had an older version (2012) of the 2TB Air Port Time Capsule (the square flat one) and it just failed without warning after about a year and a half. Took it to the Genius Bar for diagnosing and they asked me "you have this all backed up, right?" ha ha ha, the Time Capsule WAS the back up!!

I could feel the unit was working (could feel heat and hum) but no light on the front. No way to recover data. It just bricked one day. Had to pay to replace the whole thing, no recovery, no apple care, no replacement.

I'd recommend another brand based on their inability to even apologize that all my archived data just disappeared.

Fastest Router I have found to date.

I I was a little skeptical about this purchase at first. I have been a Netgear and Linksys user for many years. I was using a Netgear router R6300 and thought that this was the best you could buy. I plugged in the Time Capsule and apple computer found it right away. Setup was easy which took about 5 minutes and I was back online. This doubled my speed of my wireless devices and the range covered my entire 1800sqft home. I like the fact that you do not need to have a Mac to use this and can set it up using an IPhone or IPad with Airport Utility.

    Best router

This is the best router I have worked with. The initial backup of my laptop took some time but that was about 495 GB of info. But the daily backups only a few min,

Excellent Speed and Range Increase from Netgear WNDR3700

Replaced a year old Netgear WNDR3700 and this router is amazing! Speed is very quick compared and range has been extended too. I bought this with an Airport Express to connect a network printer and it automatically connected to it. It also extended the my network without an ethernet cord attached from the Airport Time Capsule and the Express acted as an access point as well as connecting my printer. The Time Capsule portion is also successfully backing up 3 computers as well. I wish I had bought this router earlier! Worth every penny!

    2 TB Review

I purchased this product based on the reviews and the good luck I have had will all Apple products. But.....

Maybe my unit is defective, but the signal strength is much worse than my 10 yr old Linksys, the back up takes hours (even with less than 1 TB of files) with the computer 5 feet from the TC and it will not stay connected to our iphones, Ipads, iMac or Macbooks. I checked the Support page and connection issues with Mtn Lion are well documented, but no solution from Apple. Most people have just hard wired back to the router which defeats the purpose of this purchase.
I am bummed - this is first sub-par Apple product that I have purchased....
    The search continues...

    Fantastic

Replaced older 3 TB time capsule, fantastic device. It was painless to setup and configure as most things are from Apple. Since it has just been setup last night and my imac did a full backup it seems to me to be faster and stable - but only one day old.

Not quite as intuitive as it should be

Hummm $300 is a lot of money. And the time capsule is not what its all jazzed up to be. I guess if you just want to use is for time machine it is adequate (a $100 external drive should do about the same).

I was really disappointed by the wifi performance. It fared no better than the piece of rubbish the telco sent me to terminate my dsl connection. Throughput and range are just as mediocre.

I thought I d be able to share my files and photos with my family (everyone uses macs). After leeching on posts and forums and the such I could not find any straight forward - easy way to do this. Everything is convoluted and counter intuitive.

I am usually a big fan of Apple hardware, software and products in general. This did not cut the mustard. Apart from the very basic setup steps for wifi and time machine, all the rest is a bear.

What I want is to have my photo's copied on the time machine and kept in sync while sharing the pictures with the family on the internal wlan easily and seamlessly. This is not possible with this product. (it is actually not possible with any solution provided by Apple afaik).

This will teach me to do my research before I buy. Still disappointed however.

I ll encourage you to shop around and do your homework before buying this product, I am sure you can get better features and performance from competing products.

    The best just got better

Easily the best update to one of Apple's signature devices for me. Takes barely a minute to set up and have running, helped by the excellent Airport Utility. It is everything you want in a backup device, it really does just work.

The footprint is smaller than the previous version although of course it's taller. The range of this device is superb, even in my 3,600 sq. ft. house. There are full bars and very quick wifi downloads - even using Time Warner - on all other devices in the house [2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 3 iMacs and a Macbook Pro].

    Excellent device. Highly recommended.

Terrible Install and No Customer Service

Just so that it's clear...I am/was an Apple FAN.
I own the iPhone, iPad, Mac Pro, and two iMacs at home.
Purchased this new Airport Time Capsule to replace a failed Time Capsule after 1.5 yrs of service. Other than the premature failure, I was very happy with the Time Capsule.

On the recommendation of the local Apple GENIUS support, I purchased this new unit only to start a wasted day of frustration. UNIT does NOT start 1, 2, 3, and it was not easy to getting support from the local store or online.

The result is the Genius at Apple support online ended up telling me to return the unit and consider another product. What?!? Because it wasn't what he though I needed... Well, I am going to return the TC and look at buying something else.

Make sure anyone considering buying this reads the fine print. Only works with LION or later....and the latest IOS (NOT). Proved them wrong when it would not work on a current iPad.

Always a first time for everything. So disappointed with this product and with Apple service. Makes me think twice now about considering the new Mac Pro and a new iPhone.

    Get this now!

For years we suffered with a router that required daily rebooting. The Time Capsule does its job all day, every day. You do nothing.

We have Comcast service and the measured speed on Apple devices has gone from 7 MB down to a blazing 50 Mbps. Wireless range has improved and setup is a snap.

Yes, it's a tad pricy, but you get what you pay for. Get one and enjoy it.

    Very highly recommended

My old (version 5) Airport Time Machine has worked well, but the signal did not reach everywhere in our three-story house. I had read that the signal strength might improve with newer devices, so on a whim I decided to buy this new version. The setup could not have been easier, even by Apple standards--I moved the modem cable to the new Airport and plugged it in. Upon opening Airport Utility, the new device was identified and the new device seamlessly replaced the old. So none of my devices, including Apple TV, the kids' video game consoles, and even a Samsung Blu-ray player had to rejoin (the last one is pretty annoyingly cumbersome). Out of curiosity I clicked on my old Airport and the utility asked me if I wanted to use it to extend the network. I placed it elsewhere in the house and it works great.

Speeds? On SpeedTest I went from (Comcast cable) 18Mb/sec to 36Mb/sec. Pretty incredible for a few minutes of setup.

    Nice and good-looking router

It's one of the very few and robust home solutions for backing up hard drive! At the same time is a very good wi-fi router.

    Plus:
It's silent, I have met some routers that make a lot of noise

Very easy to setup with any apple device or windows 7.

I simultaneously synchronize my iphone, run back up, surf the internet, stream HD content on my apple TV without a hussle and all these through my 72Mbps settled laptop speed.

    Minus are:
It's mildly hot all the time, not extremely though

It's formatted as FAT32 so it won't serve windows machines always at it's best. For example Windows System Image requires NTFS.

You can plug in only FAT32 Hard Drives. If you have a disk formatted otherwise, then it will show up but it won't be usable.

    Easy to install

I bought this product to improve the backup speed from a 3rd party NAS device. Since this product also had wireless routing capability, I decided to also replace my Airport Express in the hopes of seeing an improvement in range.

What really impressed me was how easy the setup was. When I plugged the device into the network it asked me if I wanted to add it the the network as a new wireless network, extend the range of an existing network, or replace existing network. I chose to replace. It imported the configuration from my airport express, set my old airport express to default settings. None of the dozen wireless products in my home even noticed the difference. Sometimes reconfiguring a wifi enabled thermostat is a pain when you change wireless routers. In this case the device never skipped a beat.

You get what you pay for and in this case I feel this a bargain.

Not Apple Quality - Very Disappointing

First, let me start off by saying that I own just about every apple product out there because I believe in the quality of the products they produce. I also have over 15 years experience setting up networks for both PCs and Macs. This product has really disappointed me, not due to the fact that it will not work right out of the box like other apple products, but because it will not work with optical network terminals (FIOS) no matter what. My 2009 airport extreme, which I reverted to, configures itself in about 15 seconds and it's up and running. I spent 2 entire days trying to get this product to work: One day with a 2TB time capsule which I returned to best buy, because I figured it's defective. The second day with the 3TB time capsule which still will not work no matter what. Maybe this base station works great with other networking configurations, but if you have FIOS, save yourself some aggravation and stay away.

    Pure Frustration

Own the previous version of Airport Extreme - very happy with that product - no issues with being disconnected and speed was great. Thought we would 'upgrade' and go with the Time Capsule version to utilize Time Machine and do away with the USB backups. First one disconnected more often than it stayed connected. Exchanged that one and while we stay connected now with the second, the Time Machine backups are unbelievably slow - 3hrs. to backup 115MB ... that's right MB. Support had us reboot the Airport and that solved the issue until the next day when we had to reboot again and ditto for the following day. Sad to say I don't think this is ready for prime time. Too unreliable and while the work-arounds are good - not what we paid $300 for. It's going back and we'll wait for the beta testing to end. Borderline complete garbage.

    Great reputation, great performance!

I had an Airport base station and had no complaints at all, when I saw this one coming out I told to myself, I want one! Do I need one? Maybe not... However, having the combo of an Airport station and Time Machine was the big upgrade for me.

Totally recommend this unit, works great and performance is outstanding. Pricy, but I would say it will be years before I have to think about upgrading again!

    Thanks Apple!! Again...
    MR
