    Manage expectations

    • Written by from Kitchener

There are a lot of complaints that the case doesn't protect the phone enough. I think we need to manage our expectations... If you're buying a SLIM leather 'case' for your phone, it is immediately obvious that it isn't going to protect your phone much form a drop from waist-height, let's say. If that is the kind of protection you want, I would think it's obvious to go for more cushioned, silicone, thicker cases or sleeves. I purposely bought this one because it was slim and smooth (ie can slide in and out of my pocket, unlike more rubberized styles). There is basically no padding inside the case, but it DOES have that microfibre-like stuff lining the case, which, for me, was the deciding point against some of the other kevlar or hard & thin cases. There were some good looking wooden ones, but there was no lining inside.

My BIGGEST complaint is that some headphone plugs cannot fully plug into the jack bc the hole in the case is too small. Could just be with my particular headphones, but it is a sticking point for me. Another pair of earbuds slides into the headphone jack no problem.

    Very Pretty

    • Written by from Birmingham

It is a very presentable and stylish case. Though it gets SUPER dirty! Also it is a little pricy. I got it on sale for about $17, but I think the normal price is way to high. So overall it is a very nice plain case, but it has its faults.

    Great case, but not perfect

    • Written by from Richland

Very well designed. It's comfortable to hold, looks great, and doesn't take away from the design of the iPhone. Fairly priced as well. I've dropped my phone numerous times (though never with the screen facing the ground), and the phone is still in perfect condition, with the case suffering minor scratches and bumps.
    Some things to consider:

-Volume buttons are not perfectly designed. Even so much as a light touch can make the phone's volume buttons click and move, and although this doesn't fully 'press' the button, this can get annoying if I am holding the phone with my hand on top of them.
-The headphone jack cutout can be too small for some headphones, requiring you to slip off the bottom of the case for them to fit.

Besides these minor issues, this is still a great case for those who want decent protection, along with a great design and reasonable price. Highly recommended!

Great case, works well with my 5, just a pain to use headphones

    • Written by from Westbrook

I bought this case about a year ago, and since then I've used it just about everyday and even have dropped it a couple times. The leather can get scratched a little bit on the edges/corners, but if they're small enough and don't rip off the leather completely, just stick a pinhead sized drop of crazyglue down to hold it back together – fairly simple fix. It gets that nice, soft, worn leather feeling after a while, adding to the simple experience of just holding the phone. I chose black because I have the black iPhone 5, and because it doesn't take much brain power to know that dirt won't show up as easily compared to a lighter color.

The phone snaps into the case and fits like a glove – the edges don't come too far over as to pull up any screen protector, which is a huge plus in my book, but come out enough to keep the screen from dragging on a table should you put it screen/face down.

The only issue I have with the case, and this is why it gets 4 stars and not 5 (and I almost thought of deducting another star for this) is that to use any normal headphones/earbuds (third party, like Bose) you will need to take the phone out of the case or use an extender made primary to fit into abnormally small openings that lead to the headphone jack (usually come with products like an iPhone battery pack). I absolutely do not like having to do this, and taking my phone out of the case so often has lead to the thin part of the case right above the lightning connector port to break (and maybe it's because I take the phone out bottom first instead of top first).

To sum up: great case, feels nice to hold, doesn't show dirt as easily, easy to repair minor scrapes, but a pain with earbuds/headphones - however, great if you listen to music only via bluetooth or anything but your iPhone.

    iPhone 5S Black Review

    • Written by from Spokane

I purchased the black iPhone 5S case in February and mine has held up incredibly well. The corners aren't frayed or faded and it hasn't lost any color. It fits the phone like it was painted on and looks fantastic. DO NOT buy this phone in any other color as the lighter colors become dirty and frayed within days. Please only purchase the black iPhone 5S case for BEST results. Hopefully the quality is higher with iPhone 6 cases.

    Great, but...

    • Written by from Manassas

This case is awesome. I love the feel, love the look, and it's nice and light. I've had my black one for about a week and a half and the leather sets nicely. My only complaint is when I take it out, i notice the ledges on the cut outs around the headphone jack and lightning jack is starting to split, which is a huge bummer. I take my phone out of the case alot, and I'm not willing to sacrifice that for the sake of someone's design flaw. So if it does split before 30 days, I'll just return and exchange it, and keep returning and exchanging it if the cycle continues. Just make sure you guys keep your receipt.

Black is the only way to go

    • Written by from Brantford

I bought the brown case and it was really dirty within a few weeks. Overall, I really like the feel and fit but if you want something that will retain its original look, then I think black would be the only choice.

    Beautiful but FRAGILE

    • Written by from Sylmar

I LOVE this case! It's beautiful and keeps my 5s nice and slim. However, the few times that I have dropped it, the leather has just scraped off like knee skin on a sidewalk (hurts just as much too!). I've dropped it once in my garage; scrape. Once on my wood floors; scrape. Once in a parking lot; scrape. I may or may not have cried each of those times :D. Aside from its fragility, it really is the perfect case for the perfect phone.

    A Fantastic Case, Except For...

    • Written by from Dalhart

Any reviewer that does not acknowledge how incredibly well this case complements the premium feel of the iPhone 5S isn't doing it justice. It's the thinnest iPhone case you can find. It's as thin as is really possible for a full coverage case. The leather feels fantastic, ages decently well, and is protective enough if you're only a little clumsy. It really, really feels great.

Those are the reasons why I really miss this case. But I won't be buying another one.

    Here's why:

    1. The biggest problem for me. The earbud opening in the case won't let you use most third party headphones. Now, I don't know why headphone manufacturers make the plastic around the input jacks so clunky, but they do. Bose headphones, no. Cheap headphones from Amazon, no. Panasonic earbuds, no. Apple earbuds, yes. If you only plan on using Apple earbuds, or are willing to switch, go for it. Me, I lose earbuds like crazy so I buy the cheap ones and leave them everywhere. I couldn't use those.
    2. The leather ripped at the bottom around the speakers after just a couple of weeks, after removing the case to clean the phone. If you plan on removing the case on more than a monthly basis, I don't know if it's sturdy enough.
    3. The leather scuffs. All phone cases scuff, but this one shows it. Not a huge deal - definitely not a deal breaker. Scuffed or not, it still felt and looked great.
    4. The lip around the screen is just a little bit too shallow for me. If, for example, I drop the phone on asphalt face down, I'm not sure the lip is large enough to prevent a small pebble from scratching the screen. It's a tiny bit too much slimming around the screen, the only place where I want any bulk.

    Great case overall

    • Written by from Calgary

I love this case! Worthy of the 5S, it doesn't ruin it's sleekness. I probably wouldn't have chosen it myself but my service provider gave me one for free. I 've had the light blue one for 2 months and haven't had any issues with grease stains etc. not sure what other people are touching their phones with. I don't mind the look of the leather wearing down a bit at all. I purchased the 30 pin adapter with the little bit of cord to attach to my car stereo cable and it fits the case fine. I only gave it 4 stars because I did have the case snap on the thin part the first time I tried to remove it. It didn't however ruin the case for me. You can't tell it's broken when it's on and it doesn't come loose or anything. That is my only complaint about this case. I would purchase it myself even for the steep $45 price (Canadian). Recommended.

    Plus and Minus

    • Written by from Columbia

I have had this case for about 6 months. I really like the way it wraps around the phone. It feels like it should, tight. The buttons, for me were not an issue to press like other reviewers. It is a work of art (in Red). I buy anything red as I have had lots of family and friends get cancer. So, if you don't really need drop protection other than on carpet, this would be the case for you, as it really pops color-wise. So much for the plusses, now for the minuses.
All of the colors (even brown), get a nice black ring develop at the base of the case and all the way around the edge, so if I had it to do over, I would get black as black does not show this weakness (as its black). I don't care so much about the ring, but the women in my life want me to wash it, lol, like that is going to happen, NOPE. I can live with the yicky ring and the ladies in my life don't have to borrow my phone, which turns out to MAYBE be a plus? I hope this helps folks make an informed decision.

nice case, wish it fit a little better in the front

    • Written by from Greenlawn

The feel of this case is very nice. Purchased for my son who likes the slim line of the case so he can put the phone in his pocket. I do wish it wrapped around the edges of the front of the phone a little better, more like it shows in the photo--on his phone you can see the metal rim of the iPhone from the front. And there is very barely a lip so that the front of the phone doesn't touch the surface if it is face down. Wish there was a tiny bit more lip there.

But it definitely feels nice, fits the phone like a glove. I appreciate the suede interior to protect the phone. My son has used plastic bumpers before and definitely prefers the feel of the leather. Aside from the minor issues I have with the case, he's very happy with it.

    Lightweight and sleek

    • Written by from Orange

Like countless others, I have tried NUMEROUS cases for my iPhone. This beautiful, soft, lightweight case is by far my favorite. I have very small hands and together with the new slimness of the 5s phone, this case works perfectly. I have the Black phone/case and it looks great. The leather makes it smooth and sleek. So far no issues with dirt or grease from my hands, and I carry it in my purse pocket.

    Good looking and Protective

    • Written by from San Luis Obispo

I got this case about a month ago and it is a great case. I was first nervous about purchasing the case because of past reviews of the case getting dirty easily, but the black case has shown no sign of dirt yet. It fits perfect on the phone, looks sleek and it feels very nice in your hand. The only thing I do not like (but it is not a big problem) is that the power button does not feel like it is clicking when you press it, but it obviously works, jsut does not feel the same as having no case on it. Overall a great case.

    Nice Case

    • Written by from West Springfield

Fits my iPhone 5 great. So glad Apple released their own cases (I loved the bumpers on the 4's). Didn't realize the case was one piece and it just places into the case, I like it better. The exterior buttons require quite a bit more force and good luck finding 3rd party cords to fit into the very precise hole.

    Great But Expensive

    • Written by from Hong Kong

This leather case is simply phenomenal. Great in-hand feel that is unmatched by any other cases of any kind and price. It matched my iPhone 5S so beautifully, from the layout to the cut-off part of the case... In addition, we hardly see the dirts when compared to other colours. However, if this case is cheaper, for example $29 instead of $39, I will have no more complain, and no one will.

Solid case with a few issues

    • Written by from Orange

This is a really good case but it has a few problems. The leather is really nice and soft. It's thin but could be thinner. It still makes the phone feel a decent amount chunkier. The biggest problem is that most aftermarket headphones can't plug into the iphone when the case is on. Another slight issue is that with a leather case you don't get to see the beauty of the space gray on black metal. Apple should consider manufacturing a nice transparent case.

    Fine case

    • Written by from SAN FRANCISCO

I didn't give this a full five because I don't yet know how durable it will be in the long run. I suspect it will eventually show signs of wear., but I bought my "brown" (really saddle tan) case when it first came out, and there are no signs of wear at all: no smudges, stains,--nothing.

I can only attribute the bad reviews vs. my totally positive experience to differences in use (or more likely, abuse). I would never put my phone in a pants pocket; it usually goes into the inside breast pocket of my jacket, and occasionally in a Sena holster. I probably don't use it as much as most folks, which along with careful handling undoubtedly contributes to my positive experience. And no, it is not particularly difficult to remove, not that that matters much as I have no reason to remove it.

As others have pointed out, the case fits perfectly., looks great, and feels wonderful. People, it is not an Otterbox, and it doesn't pretend to be. Lighten up. Save your vitriol for something really serious.

Love it all around, but fragile on thin headphone/ charger cutout

    • Written by from colorado springs

This is my second day with this case(black w/ space grey 5s) and I really do love the looks, and quality of the case. This is one of those things that you must pick up and try on your phone to really get a feel for just how nice it is. It's leather, but it's very smooth to the touch, like when running your hand across it, smooth feel and not textured like you'd think leather would be. The phone is very sleek inside it, it adds very little bulk. When using it you can clearly see the beautiful metal band along the side of the device, it provides a SMALL lip (lay on table) that protects the phone when placing it on surfaces, but during a drop I would expect the screen to touch the ground slightly. However if you used this case and a zagg extreme screen protector, it would have almost no chance of breaking under normal drops. I use a zagg full body original, and the back screen protector doesn't affect how it fits, the case does not touch the screen, so you would be able to use any screen protector without the case peeling it. I went to best buy, and peeled the plastic tape off of the bottom of the case package, slid it out, took it out and tried it on my phone and simply slid it back it and closed the container up so I could try it before buying it. The apple store most likely will not allow you to look at one before buying. I got it for myself the next day.

BE WARNED: the thin parts of this case ARE fragile and WILL break if you put stress on them. The first time I tried taking my phone out (today) , the thin part on the headphone cutout BROKE..it straight up BROKE. It made a snap kind of sound, not very noticeable, definitely not visible if you're someone else looking at me use it, but I can still see it. It just happened and I do plan to exchange it at the apple store for a new one.
When taking your phone out: pop it out at the TOP of the phone/case, as to not put stress on the fragile bottom headphone and charger slots. I should have known better, I knew you should take it out from the top..but I never thought it would straight up break not even a day later.
Now I have yet to see how the case wears out, fades, dirties up so I have yet to comment on that. But keep in mind apple can not please everyone, and there will ALWAYS be those people giving things a one star blaming their incompetence on the product.
Overall: be careful with it and it will be a great case that truly enhances the phones beauty not hides it.
