    Innovative Scroll Ball and button

Perfectly positioned to roll smoothly under just one finger, the Apple Mouse's Scroll Ball offers full 360-degree scrolling capability — up/down, left/right and diagonally. You can scroll long web pages, pan full-size images, maneuver around large spreadsheets, control a video timeline and more. And you can even click the Scroll Ball to access your favorite Mac OS X features such as Dashboard, Spotlight or Exposé.

    image.alt.pdp-mmouse-touch-sensitive

    Touch-sensitive top shell

It looks and feels like a sleek one-button mouse, but the Apple Mouse's smooth top shell hides a powerful secret: touch-sensitive technology under the shell detects which part of the mouse you're clicking, so you can both left-click and right-click. And if you prefer the simplicity of a classic one-button mouse, the Apple Mouse is up to the task. Just use the Mac OS X system preference pane to configure it how you want.

    image.alt.pdp-mmouse-force-sensors

    Force-sensing side buttons

When you give the Apple Mouse a squeeze, force-sensing side buttons can be configured to activate Mac OS X features such as Dashboard, Exposé or a whole host of other customizable features.

    image.alt.pdp-mmouse-customize-tiger

    Customizable

If you have Mac OS X, the Apple Mouse can give you fingertip access to the special features you love. Simply use the system preference panel to configure the Apple Mouse in the way that makes you most powerful. Control the Scroll Ball's tracking and click functions, as well as the right, left and side click functions. And you even can set up different mouse profiles for every user account on your Mac.

      Amazingly bad..!

Sure, you pay a little more than you want to, but in return you get an Apple product with great design and quality, right? ...mweh... not so sure anymore these Sure, you pay a little more than you want to, but in return you get an Apple product with great design and quality, right? ...mweh... not so sure anymore these days. This mouse is another example. The most basic things a mouse should do is move a cursor around, respond to clicks, and scroll properly. Amazingly, in ALL these respects it fails to deliver. 1. Tracking is slow and imprecise - I had to ramp it up beyond what system prefernces would allow me, through a terminal command. Sometimes it tracks faster, sometimes slower... I have to admit that I don't use a mousepad, but with my desk surface tracking has never been a problem for any other mouse except for this one. 2. Right clicks... work 85% of the time. Just about any other mouse works fine with my comp, but the moment I plug this one in the right clicks start failing. 3. Scrolling feels jerky and imprecise. Also this works much smoother with my much cheaper Logitech mouse attached. How they manage to mess up in all these distinct but crucial aspects that make a mouse a MOUSE is beyond me. I have never paid more for a mouse. I have never received less from a mouse. These are two separate facts of which the combination kind of blows my mind. Big thumbs down, apple...

It feels good and substantial and the scroll ball is wonderful (just keep your hands clean, and you'll be fine). I've tried the magic mouse a few times and it drives me nuts. I've found I can depend on this mouse to help me navigate the system with ease, dexterity and speed. On the few occasions the scroll ball has gotten too dirty to respond, the paper trick has worked every time, and very quickly.

The only thing that gets really annoying is the cord. It might not be as "in the way" if I were using a desktop computer, but when you're using it with a Macbook, it gets in the way. The other thing is that it's hard to carry the mouse around with the cord sticking out. (Yes, you can wrap it around, but that becomes tedious after a couple times.) Overall, it's a great mouse, but it would be better if it was wireless. If I had a choice, I would spend the extra money and buy the wireless and multi-touch Magic Mouse 2.

This is my third (& last) Apple mouse.

I just ordered my 3rd wired Apple mouse in 7 years. Life span of these are limited. The roller ball gets fouled and there is no way to properly clean it. I feel Apple could do a way better job of mouse design. I rate this product as a weak 1 star.

Either grab a clean paper towel and some rubbing alcohol or some diabetic alcohol swab packets... rub the ball in every single direction for about 5 minutes and it cleans the shiite out of it. Works awesome!!!!

It's a single button so relies on where you press it to get left click and right click (I'm not using centre click). Every so often, the scroll ball just stops working or only scrolls in one direction. You then have to scroll like crazy to bring it back to life. Getting a right click (to open sub-menus) is nigh on impossible in some situations. You just sit there clicking away and eventually it realises you're doing a right click. I've had it less than a month and it's been pants, so thinking of returning for a refund before it packs up completely.
