Yes it's kind of a hassle. But that's progress for you & I prefer this cable. No more fumbling in the dark - it just slides right in the right way every time. Apple does need to get a few more in the stores though. But love the new cable and love the new design.

It seemed that more often than not I would get the old 30 pin cord upside down when plugging it in then have to turn it over. I agree with those that want the cord longer, it would be a nice option if it were available. We are using several usb extension cables. I had a connection problem on my cord after about a month which I found was pocket lint in the socket. Canned air worked well to blow it out now its like new. As for the complaints of the cord failing, we have (6) devices with this in our house and not a single problem. I'm betting most if not all the complaints of failing cords are due to the fact that the cord is a little hard to pull out of the device and people are using the cord, not the connector to remove it.

      Worse than Ever

Dear Apple, I bought a new longer lighting cable (3M) for my iPhone in January 2015 , during a trip to Los Angeles. I leave in Sao Paulo, Brasil. I wanted Dear Apple, I bought a new longer lighting cable (3M) for my iPhone in January 2015 , during a trip to Los Angeles. I leave in Sao Paulo, Brasil. I wanted this cable only to use at home, in my bedroom. I less than one year the cable has peeled and the wiring inside is coming out. Since then, I got a new iPhone 6 and the shorter original cable is already getting worn out. I am a big fun of apple products and over the years I bought 2 MacBooks Air, Ipad, we have another 2 Macs at home. All products are the best we ever had, a part from these cables that the entire world complain about. I would like to know what can be done to replace these expensive cables that have short a life time span . I real shame on the image of a company that is known by the quality of its products !

The connector into the phone breaks down within a month! While you are making tons of $$ from replacement cords...we suffer. Please redesign. if possible i would give you negative stars.

      Lack of quality.

The genuine cables only last about 6 months before they start giving out and you have to tweak the position in order to get any decent charge. FIX IT!
