can you attach any kind of external drive to it?

Unfortunately, no. there just isn't a port for drives to connect into. You can, however, utilize file sharing in iTunes to copy documents, PDFs, and more. You can also choose folders of photos on your desktop or external hard drive that your device can sync to.

  • No, the ipad does not support data transfer from an external drive. The GoFlex Satellite drive from Seagate supports some data transfer to the iPad. You can put files onto the drive from a computer, and then access the files on the drive with an app on the iPad.

  • You cannot connect an external hard drive, at least not in any way supported by Apple. The iPad Camera Connection Kit allows you to connect certain flash memory cards via adapters, but this only allows you to transfer photos and video. There's no file system access.

  • No. But you can sync things to iCloud, or use DropBox, Box, or other online services.

  • No. You can synch to an Apple or Windows computer using a cable or wireless, but there is no facility for directly using external storage.

  • You can get a accessory that makes it so you can plug a SD card into it from your camera, but I think its only for pictures though :)
