External drives

I have 2 external drives on my PC. When I switch to a Mac can I simply plug 'em in to access the photos and documents resident on them?

You can plug them and most probably you will be able to read from them, this depends completely on the filesystem that your disk's partitions were formatted to, you can read and write FAT32 with no issues but NTFS will not allow writing unless you download additional 3rd party software to your Mac.

The same goes the other way around, Mac partitions will not be readable in a PC unless you have software that can read that format.
