    ZERO STARS. Microsoft Office for Mac not work on macbook pro retina 2015.

    I bought my new macbook pro exclusively for work projects. I bought office and every application was crashing upon startup or within seconds to minutes of typing anything...and this was on a new macbook right out of the box. I spent countless hours on the phone with apple, and had the laptop taken in for service. All diagnostics were negative for an apple issue. I then spent countless hours on the phone with microsoft, and to add insult to injury, I had to pay for that support (just to talk to a human being). They weren't able to offer a remedy except point the finger back at apple. I even provided them with the error reports. So back to apple i went. I left my computer at the store for more checks After a few days, they said the machine checks out 100%. They even read through the error reports again. Obviously office 2011 does not work on my machine. The sad part is I have been using MS office since the beginning of time. The new office products don't attract me, especially with their current pricing schemes. Microsoft has basically forced me to stop using their product. I wish I could get my money back, but we are way past that point now. So long excel, powerpoint, word, and outlook! Hopefully one day I can return to Microsoft Office for Mac.

    The absolute worse purchase ever

    I absolutely despise Mac's email anyway, so when my Outlook email on my Mac constantly requested my password, I thought, here we go again. This product should not even be considered to be able to be used with a Mac computer because it is next to impossible to do so and it be error free. I'm over it completely.

    I've been using Microsoft Office for Mac and it is terrible, it takes a long time to open, I'm a PhD student, and whenever I use Word or Power Point it crashes. It does not offer a swift use.
    I do not recommend anyone to use it if its one of the main programs you need.

    I wish I could give more than one star. I am working on my research and many times is just stack and close and I loss my data. It is just stupid I never have something like this before. It always keep logging off and then they ask for username and password and it does not accept them and sometimes it does. It just a trash that I never own something like that before.

    I use Word on University PCs and as soon as I transfer my work over to my Mac i notice how much more rubbish and different it is for Macs. It is slower, word check is consistently wrong and flagging up, and suggesting changes that are completely absurd, which doesn't confuse Word for PC. It glitches and loses documents. I LOVE my Mac but would consider going back to PC because of the lack of a decent word processor, if it wasn't what Microsoft want me to do. Cannot believe I spent good money on this.

    Excel simply terrible on a Mac

    I am deeply disappointed that Microsoft continue to deliver a product that has such poor performance on the Mac platform. The slow to respond and constant waiting for the system to respond even on the latest quad processor i5 chip with 16Gb RAM and SSD hard drive.

    This is surprising considering that Excel was only available on Mac 20 or so years ago. It must be a deliberate move on their part.

    Don't waste your money.

    I seriously regret purchasing this product, mostly because Word freezes SO OFTEN. I have to 'Force Quit' Word in order to access my document again, which wastes a lot of time in the aggregate. If I could give the product a '0,' I whole-heartedly would. WHY DID I FORK OUT my precious student savings for this product?! Please don't make the same mistake.

    Not the same functionality you are used to coming from a Windows PC

    Basic functionality in Word, Excel and PowerPoint that you were used to simply does not exist. The spell check and grammar is shocking, the reference function is below par, formatting functionality is limited in all programs. The statistics functionality in excel requires another programme to work called StatPlus and the integration doesn't work. Definitely not recommended for students due to the limited referencing capability.
    Sharing docs and spreadsheets between other Windows users is also a problem as you lose formatting capability. It also changes fonts when the document has been shared.

    Don't expect full compatibility with PC based Office

    So much time consuming and frustrating experience so far:
    1) Ribbon does not allow to enter detailed settings with the right bottom button in each section. Have to search for the feature in menu bar as in the old gone Office 2003. No pop up menu above your cursor upon click on cell or highlighting a text. Why is the 2011 Mac user interface on halfway between 2003 and 2007 office versions?
    2) MS excel macros only run if code is shorter than 64kb. VBA tools organized differently so take twice the time to rewrite your code, great.
    3) If you matched PPT background to fit with your corporate logo, be prepared to see different shades of when opening in Office 2011, despite all PC users see the colours as perfectly matching.
    4) Style and grammar settings arranged differently than in PC based Office. There's no way to allow fragment sentences, despite PC based versions got no problem with it.

    Bad Excel software

    I purchased this software for my statistics class and could not use it. There is an "add in" requirement that regular Windows software has and must be set up beforehand before doing any calculations or creating any charts which is the focus of the statistic class. I was told that "add in's" is not included in this version for Mac and must buy and download it separately from a third party software company. If you don't mind spending money ok but this was a waste of money. I should have stuck with Windows 2010 on my non-Mac because now, I have to purchase Office 2010! This is garbage so beware before buying, I told you so!!

    this is useless, bloated, convoluted, needlessly complicated, useless excrement). when something fails on my macs, it is invariably a piece of MS something. the spinning beachball of infinity seems to really, really like MS software; how long can it be before mac users are visited by the blue screen of death?

    don't waste your money. retain your sanity and use the mac suite: it's very much something better. bah!

    I use Microsoft word, powerpoint, and excel regularly for scientific reports and presentations and I am extremely familiar with it. I've used it on a number of different devices and operating systems and Microsoft Office for Mac is the worst computer program I have ever used. Period. It makes me sign into an account every time I try to open the program and only accepts my information maybe 50% of the time. The formats and files are different and for whatever reason, aren't always compatible with other, non-apple products or programs. Most of the time I do my work on a school computer (not an Apple device) because, although less convenient for me to access, it is less of a headache. I have used Apple programs such as pages and numbers and those were equally, if not more infuriating. My next computer will not be a Mac and I refuse to support the franchise in any other way. If you want a good program or a good computer, avoid Apple.

    Why must my workplace force me to use this garbage.

    My work flow is constantly halted because they failed to incorporate the most basic Mac user features like pinch to zoom, smooth scrolling and COPY AND PASTE THAT ACTUALLY COPIES AND PASTES THE FIRST TIME YOU DO IT. The entire experience feels cumbersome beyond belief. Features are hidden behind vague icons and making precise formatting changes is like riding a bull - you never know which way it's going to throw you.

    Microsoft needs to update this atrocity FAST.

    Absolutely terrible. Either partition your Mac to run Windows or buy PC

    This product is awful for many reasons.

    1) Outlook does not use Word as its editor. Therefore, FORMAT PAINT does not exist, spellcheck is poor, read receipts aren't available, and there are very limited features. The lack of format paint is a major time thief.
    2) Outlook is terribly bugged. If I send an email in 12 font, the receiver will always see it as 9.5 font, which is nearly unreadable unless you have a microscope, which is fine if the receiver is a scientist. If I send something in 16 font, it shows up as 13 to the receiver. Makes absolutely no sense.
    3) On multiple occasions, I sent emails using one font, color, and size. I've checked my outbox and it looks normal. Yet, the receiver will see several font sizes, multiple colors, and some unreadable text. This makes me look terribly unprofessional, as I'm sure most readers assume it was a user error and not an Apple/Microsoft glitch.
    4) In the PC version, the entire email remains intact if you respond from your navigation pane. However, in the Mac version, responding from the navigation pane will delete most of the previous conversation. You must fully open the email and respond if you want the integrity of the previous communication to remain.
    5) Sometimes you will write an email and then the font automatically changes colors and size. Press delete and it goes back to normal, but press another button and it glitches again. Another stupid time thief.
    5) OneNote is unavailable on Mac.
    6) Product updates are few and far between.
    7) Salesforce does not integrate with Office for Mac. On a PC, an email will immediately save to the Salesforce platform. On a Mac, users must manually input this data. I've checked with Salesforce and they've confirmed this is the case.

    The list goes on and on. The product is terrible. I am abandoning Mac for these reasons alone. I love my Mac, but flawed emails, which were not my fault, are enough to switch. I cannot afford to lose potential business from communication glitches. Unless Microsoft and Apple fix these problems, you should just get a PC.

    I paid retail for this!? I expect a free upgrade to a new version that runs

    As others have noted we should demand a refund from Microsoft for this embarrassing beta. Oh wait, I paid full retail!

    Can I give this zero stars? A pico star? Half a star?

    It is s........l........o.......w......
    I am so frustrated that I will give 5 examples that cost me 1 hour of productivity today while building a simple spreadsheet.

    1) opening a new Excel document 10-20 seconds on MacBookPro with 2.3GHz, 8GB RAM, 240 GB of free hard drive space and 2 apps running. It doesn't matter if I have 10 apps open or 1, it's just as slow. Why?

    2) Excel numeric computation of simple math = A1 * B1 takes 4-5 seconds. It takes the same time regardless of the only entry on a new spreadsheet or a larger spreadsheet of 60 months by 150 lines with basic multiplication of 2 to 5 digit numbers. I have an 1991 Powerbook 170 with 25 MHz 68030 that runs Excel much, much faster. Why?

    3) Word scrolling. I've used Word since the days of Multiplan on the first Mac. Scrolling text on a page is obvious and simple. But this version literally takes 4-5 seconds to scroll up or down - and that's assuming you're in scroll mode A or scroll mode B. Should I use the keyboard arrows? Or should I use the "page up" and "page down" keys? Or should I click on the arrows in the UI scroll area? Notice how you literally never know for sure which will work? Notice how you have to click in a place to get it to know what to move - and even then, notice how they don't work consistently?

    4) Copy and paste in Word and Excel. What happened? Suddenly my copy and paste keyboard shortcuts have jumped to voice record? Why? How do I undo or get back other than closing the app. I think it has something to do with hitting "esc" twice in a row, but there's no documentation.

    5) The amount of screen real estate taken up by all the Word and Excel tabs, bars, scrolls, tables, charts, formatting, etc. I figured out that each of these is a product manager's responsibility. And they only get to stay around MSFT if they waste screen real estate and obfuscate the ability to find where to make them disappear and restore more screen area that I can use. (BTW, I have a 15" display plus a second monitor.)

    I remember when I was using Office 2008 and needed to upgrade to 2011 to be compatible with a team member on Windows. Guess what, he's now on a Mac and is also complaining about the Office performance. But he no longer complains about being hacked, so for him it's an improvement.

    - Pathetic bulleted/numbered list formatting
    - Pathetic paragraph formatting
    - Pathetic image manipulation (well none at all)

    It is virtually impossible to create a professional looking email in Outlook for MAC or Office 365 Outlook for MAC.

    Call it was it is ... Outlook 1997 ...that's about when the feature set is from.

    I only use Office to be compatible with others. It is NOT a user-friendly experience. If you don't interact a lot with people using Office, get iWork - Much better user experience and integrates very well with iOS & iCloud.

    Microsoft Word Mac 2011 graphics totally frustrating

    Just a quick vent.
    I have used Microsoft Word on the Mac and Windows for many years. I know it is history but I remember clearly working in Word 5.1 for mac and how well it supported working with graphics at that time.
    Anyway, the implementation of the graphics in MS Word 2011 for Mac is the most cumbersome, unintuitive and frustrating product I have used from Microsoft.
    I am inclined to believe it is deliberate because of the excellent software they produce elsewhere.
