    Would not even configure after multiple tries with different methods.

    To make a long story short: I bought an Airport Express at Staples and tried to set it up using both my MacBook pro and my iPhone to run the initial setup required to make this device work. After I had input all the necessary information, the configuration would be stuck loading trying to find the router, then would fail and say "an unexpected error occurred". I used Airport Utility on both my Macbook and iPhone, as well as the iPhone's Wireless settings. I tried multiple times and every single time, the configuration would fail. I tried resetting the Airport Express, but nothing changed. I also tried disconnecting from power, and reconnecting, and it would still not get past the same problem. I also used the IPv6 trick every place that suggested a solution online suggested and it did not work either. You'd think Apple would make a hassle free wireless device, but they had to make it complicated instead of making a plug-in and go device. I was very disappointed, because I thought Apple was more reliable than this.

    AirPort Extreme fail

    Save your money! Extreme constantly locks up for some unknown apparent reason. My other router, a Cisco from Walmart is rock solid for several years. Never once locked up. I have the AirPort Extreme in a second home in another state. Now, I have to fly out to do a hard reset. Less than a year old, and only running a Honeywell thermostat, one Ismart keep camera, and one Nest thermostat through it. Very disappointing! As soon as I fly back,
    Extreme is going right into the trash!

    Drops constantly

    This thing is terrible. I use it to extend my wireless network and it drops the connection on a semi daily basis. Have to do a hard reset.

    I have two of these – and they are both a nightmare!

    Having to continually do factory reset on both of them. And even then, both Apple airport utility apps, both on my iPhone 6 and on my MacBook Pro fail to find the airport express. I have to reset them on average 12 Times before the airport app finds the airport express. Even then, when I go through the set up procedure it errors-out 90% of the time. Most frustrating product I have ever purchased - except for maybe iTunes, which cuts off songs before they're done playing, then moves onto the next song. Apple needs to wake up and start remedying their failures in a timely manner - they're getting a name as being 'the lesser of two evils' as compared to competing products.

    Save your money

    Drops connection once or twice a day and must be unplugged and restarted. Wish I had read the reviews here before I purchased. I now know that's a common problem with the Express.

    My 5th Generation Extreme works great. Hard to believe the Express is made by the same company.

    Failed product design is very unreliable

    I have had a few of these routers and have found that there are many problems with them.
    First if you use them to stream music say from iTunes you can't also use the internet as the music will stop playing.
    Second these routers will randomly go offline and have to be unplugged and "reset" - very frustrating.
    Third the range is ridiculously short. Do not expect to cover more than one room or you will be disappointed.
    Fourth they often don't even show up in Airport Utility so you can't access the firmware all the time to troubleshoot.
    Fifth they just die randomly and have to be replaced - a couple years lifespan from my experience - they seem to overheat.
    Sixth they have problems maintaining connection to another router if used to expend your wifi range - don't expect to have
    consistent success doing this and absolutely don't expect success using them to wirelessly send music to your speakers -
    this has been a complete failure. Buy a proven router from another manufacturer. They are cheaper and far far superior in operation and reliability. On the plus size they are small.

    Loses its connection constantly. Music playback suddenly clips and stutters, randomly can't be found on my network for airplaying, just disappears with no warning. Has to be reset every 2-4 days. Waste of money. The only product from Apple i regret buying.

    If it works it is slow. It hardly works and don't even get coverage in my entire apartment which is only 1200 sq. ft. Waste of money

    Don't buy this product. It worked good at first but after about 5 months it would never even pick up the Internet. It would also drop signal when it was connected every 5 minutes. Go buy a cheaper router from a different brand and save your money it'll most likely work better to begin with.

    Flawed Product, with MANY users experiencing problems

    This is a fantastic, handy product when it works. Trouble is... it often doesn't. Everything will be humming along fine and suddenly the unit will experience connectivity issues. It starts with the music "skipping" while the unit struggles to maintain a connection, then it drops out altogether and the flashing amber light returns while it resets.

    This issue is reporting by thousands of users in forums all over the web.

    Save your money. Don't buy this.

    Upsetting that Apple hasn't acknowledged the issue or offered a solution.

    Lasted 14 months

    I bought this September 9, 2014. It gave up December 2015. It shows strong wifi signal but does not connect. I tried connecting an ethernet cable to it but failed also. Now, I surf the net connected by ethernet cable direct to the modem.

    hate this product

    Airport utility doesn't detect anything. The bridge mode gives me the same amount of signal without bridge mode.

    Worked for fine for awhile.

    Bought this as basic wifi router for use at my father in laws house 14 months ago. Worked fine, though the range is only so-so.
    Later my wife ungraded FIL's internet service and that included new router, so the Airport was unneeded.
    Decided to use it as a range extender for our Airport network and sure enough, worked great …….. for a while. Now it no longer recognizes the wifi signal and yes I have nothing but amber blinking light of death. Attempts to resuscitate have been un-successful.
    Jeez, $100 bucks for a POC that lasted just over a year. Nice job Apple.

    Don't bother

    It can't stream audio from movies/youtube etc. 2~3 sec delay.
    It can't stream music without continuous cuts, and I've tried all forum tips.
    And Apple don't bother fixing this.
    There are better routers for that price.

    Broken TOS Airplay

    I bought this device for one simple reason. I bought it to stream music to a DAC. The staff at the Apple store in Stamford CT stated that this device should be able to do that and do it well. I also read online that this device should to that as well. The problem is, it does not do this well at all. It constantly drops the audio signal and the audio skips like crazy, making the audio signal impossible to play on high end audio equipment.

    Smashed into many bits

    I am a crossbreed user of MS and Apple products. I have many years in this game. This product is another example of Apple and the need to dumb it down to a point where it becomes complex and quite stupid. Why would you want a web interface like every other product known to man? No, No, No! We are Apple. Try this software and you can start to pull your hair our rather quickly. Range...poor. Quality...looks great. Setup...absolutely the worst experience. In many pieces now and have discovered that there is more metal and plastic weight to it than guts, Open the utility...it sees the airport. Oops sign in please...oops...check you connection...oops...sign in...oops...check your connection. Smash! HULK ANGRY AT APPLE GARBAGE!

    Frustration and Disbelief

    This review is to report the same as many here in one-star-land: the Airport Express is a failure.

    After using an Airport Extreme for many years, it burned itself out, as can be expected with routers. We purchased the Express and it worked as advertised - plug and play - and we were linked to the internet again.

    The product worked for over a year, but then failed catastrophically, dropping the signal from our modem sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 10 seconds, after re-booting.

    It was a frustrating week in our household. I am a help desk person and have trouble shot many problems, but this one problem has taken me in so many places for answers, with only minimal response/results. Everyone, excluding Apple, has a different suggestion for how/why this can be fixed. Here are a few that temporarily worked, but ultimately were not able to save our Airport:
    • Factory Reset of both modem and Airport
    • Re-installation of firmware for both modem and Airport
    • Change the broadcast channels
    • Change from WPA to WPA2 (and between private and enterprise)
    • Change from DHCP to static
    • Change DHCP from automatic to manual
    • And a few more adjustments (including movement of Airport to new location(s), standing on one foot, mystic chant, etc.)

    My conclusion:
    I am not a trained network specialist, but I am an extremely seasoned trouble-shooter who can get results. This is a rare failure that still annoys the part of my brain that wants to FIND the answer. My belief is that the "form factor" of this sleek little module is ultimately its downfall. It gets hot, and this is the enemy to any electronic device.

    Last month, I replaced it with a Netgear router, and in comparison, it is the same weight, but spread out over a larger area with plenty of ventilation. It is one of the middle range routers for price and power, but the connection for our household of 6-8 simultaneous running devices has NEVER BEEN BETTER.

    I hope that this is the last Apple product that fails like this, we have always liked and supported Apple, "because is just works."

    Not as easy as it seems...

    I wasted one hour of my life trying to get this thing to work. I bought it to replace a MediaLink router, but after an hour (or maybe even longer), I gave up and just went back to my old router.

    The actual set up is very easy but none of my devices could pick up the router. It was showing up as an option, the light was steady green but when I connected it it, I would get a greyed out wifi logo with an exclamation point. I think more configuration needed to be done but Apple did not provide instructions on this anywhere.
