i have to get my 5th charger for my 3 year old laptop

ive only had my macbook for 3 years and for the 5th time im going to have to drop a bunch of money on a new charger. its frustrating because my chargers rarely move unless im cleaning other wise it is always in the same place. they simply dont last and are too expensive for the quality. i would feel a lot less cheated about paying $80 for a charger if it lasted more than 5-6 months.

    WHY APPLE, WHY?!

I'm fairly confident, after reading many review, that EVERYONE is having the same issue, Apple.

    PLEASE FIX YOUR CHARGERS.

I am about to have to buy my THIRD charger. THIRD. I should be able to have one, MAYBE two chargers for the life of my computer.
Not only have I already had to have my battery replaced, now I have to buy YET ANOTHER charger for my Macbook pro. This computer isn't even that old. It doesn't matter what you do with this charger, unless you put it on a shrine and bubble wrap it, it isn't going to last very long.

    Apple, help us out here.

    Be better.

    Sincerely,

Not buying another one of these cords.

"Apple, learn what good customer service is!!!"

Apple's chargers are the only electronic chargers I have ever owned that break! And this one is the worst! Owed my Macbook pro for 4 months before this charger broke, and I am extremely careful with my cords. Looking at these reviews, I can't believe that Apple has received these complaints for 5 years, and they STILL refuse to fix it!

I've been a HUGE Apple devotee for years, but it looks like I'll be going the PC route. I refuse to pay even $30 for a charger that will only break within a year.

Own three of them, no failures

As with others in the five-star bin, I really don't understand why people are experiencing so many failures with these units. One of the 60W magsafes I own is original equipment for a 4-year-old MacBook pro. The machine gets almost daily use, including being moved back and forth between different locations, and receiving less than gentle treatment. The hard-drive on this MacBook has failed and been replaced, and I'm about to replace its noisy fan. The power adapter still works just fine.

To be sure, there are a number things of about Apple products and services that annoy the heck out of me. This particular power adapter just isn't one of them.

    POS

I can't believe you are still charging so much for such a terribly designed cable. Yet here I am, buying a replacement. I pretty much have to. What a sham.

    Where's the Apple quality?

Mine lasted a year and a half then simply stopped working. Not sure how apple can make a product that's failing a lot of people this badly.

    Power Adapter is garbage

I have been through 3 of these in the last 3 years. I wrap it up exactly like the guy in the store showed me to minimize wear. Unless you leave this thing stationary it will break.

    Innovate This

    Apple.

    Do better.

It's great you're focusing on better iMacs/iPads/iPhones, etc. but please change this. Focus on this. Please.

I have to buy my FOURTH charger soon.

    Amazing replacement after 3.5 years

Had my MacBook charger that came with my MacBook fir 3.5 years and it just broke now. People stop complaining about there products when it's your fault for breaking them and not taking care of them.

Just paid the annual Apple tax

In 4 years this is now the 3rd power adapter. When this Macbook dies i will not buy another Apple product to replace it. This adapter does not last. It breaks and after a while wigggling of the cord does not match the image of a good quality product that we are paying a premium price for.

I Love Apple, BUT I HATE THEIR CHARGERS.

In terms of computers and electronics Apple is top dog, but I can't handle the frailness of their chargers!

I have bought chargers three times in the past year for all my apple devices (Apple iPhone, Apple Tablet, and Apple Macbook Pro) . It's expensive for no reason and the quality of the rubber covering and metal underneath are damaged too easily.
Apple really needs to do something differently going forward with their designs because if not I will have to invest my money elsewhere.

    2nd power adapter in 4 1/2 years

The charging function has always worked great, but the cord from the brick to the MacBook seems weak and the rubber sheathing frays. The first replacement was done under AppleCare when the MacBook was about 2 years old. Now, 2 1/2 years later, it's happened again. This adapter sits at home, I don't wrap the cord around the little handles, I always disconnect it by grabbing the MagSafe connector, yet the fraying just happened. I take care of my stuff, and I think Apple made a mistake here with either design or materials.

I'm not going to quibble - $79 over 4 1/2 years isn't a big deal - but based on the distribution of the ratings of these reviews, I'd say there's a problem that Apple needs to address.

Sit on it if it doesn't charge!

This trick works for my 45W adapter that came with my MacBook Air.

If you try to charge but it doesn't charge or light up, you can unplug the charger from the outlet (you don't need to unplug it from your computer) and LITERALLY SIT on the charger for a couple of minutes and then try charging again.

This method has kept me from buying a new charger for over two years since it "broke'! works 100% of the time for me when it refuses to charge.

So, if you think your charger is broken, give this tip a try. You'll save some $$$

    Fire Hazard!!

I couple weeks ago I noticed a burning smell. After getting up several times and scoping out the house, I finaly realized that it was my charger. The wires had frayed and were melting the plastic around them. I can still get my computer to charge a little (out of sheer desperation) by pushing the wiring together, but it is so dangerous that I cannot leave it unsupervised. The white plastic around the wires is melted and brown in color. So dangerous and poorly designed.

    About to buy my fourth...

This is a cheaply made laptop charger. I take good care of my chargers, yet somehow they all have stopped working on me and I am now about to buy my 4th charger. This is ridiculous. This is obviously planned obsolescence from the company. It's really too bad I love your operating systems.

How Can Such a Vital Yet Consistently Failing Accessory Go Unfixed?

How many of these poor reviews need to be written by loyal customers? My adaptor almost burned my house down. Not kidding. Smoke and sparks. And I have to cough up $80 on the exact same piece of equipment? That's not just uncool, it's scary.

Go with the T-plug, not the L-plug

If you need a replacement power adapter try to get the T-plug, NOT the L-plug. The latter is poorly designed, not product-tested and was foisted on the buying public with disdain and arrogance. The L-plug frays at the connection to the computer portal after several month's usage. If you are unfortunate enough to have an L-plug, be sure to reinforce it with electrical tape so that the connection cannot bend. FOR SHAME APPLE. STEVE JOBS IS TURNING OVER IN HIS GRAVE THAT YOU DESIGNED SUCH A PIECE OF JUNK.

    Unfortunately, an ongoing weak point

Mine is failing at both ends: first at the L shaped plug and second at the power adapter end. This continues to be a weak point on the Mac that Apple needs to figure out.

Horrible design, breaks every 10 months.

Now I wonder who designed this because they should definitely be fired. I have gone through 5 chargers already, each stopped working because of the same problem: Where the cord and Power Adapter meet, the area is so weak that the cord starts to split and if you use the 'flaps' that are attached you are only weakening that area even more. The laptop used is for my college and it is basically my life- filled with documents and projects for class. With each time the power cord breaks I have to go all the way out to the Apple store and burn $80 dollars on a replacement. I already have to pay university books and tuition. My $400 phones charger still works after 6 years, why shouldn't my $1200 laptops charger last for that long?
