    Amazing replacement after 3.5 years

    • Written by from edmonton

Had my MacBook charger that came with my MacBook fir 3.5 years and it just broke now. People stop complaining about there products when it's your fault for breaking them and not taking care of them.

Just paid the annual Apple tax

    • Written by from Algonquin Highlands

In 4 years this is now the 3rd power adapter. When this Macbook dies i will not buy another Apple product to replace it. This adapter does not last. It breaks and after a while wigggling of the cord does not match the image of a good quality product that we are paying a premium price for.

I Love Apple, BUT I HATE THEIR CHARGERS.

    • Written by from Mississauga

In terms of computers and electronics Apple is top dog, but I can't handle the frailness of their chargers!

I have bought chargers three times in the past year for all my apple devices (Apple iPhone, Apple Tablet, and Apple Macbook Pro) . It's expensive for no reason and the quality of the rubber covering and metal underneath are damaged too easily.
Apple really needs to do something differently going forward with their designs because if not I will have to invest my money elsewhere.

    2nd power adapter in 4 1/2 years

    • Written by from Portland

The charging function has always worked great, but the cord from the brick to the MacBook seems weak and the rubber sheathing frays. The first replacement was done under AppleCare when the MacBook was about 2 years old. Now, 2 1/2 years later, it's happened again. This adapter sits at home, I don't wrap the cord around the little handles, I always disconnect it by grabbing the MagSafe connector, yet the fraying just happened. I take care of my stuff, and I think Apple made a mistake here with either design or materials.

I'm not going to quibble - $79 over 4 1/2 years isn't a big deal - but based on the distribution of the ratings of these reviews, I'd say there's a problem that Apple needs to address.

Sit on it if it doesn't charge!

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This trick works for my 45W adapter that came with my MacBook Air.

If you try to charge but it doesn't charge or light up, you can unplug the charger from the outlet (you don't need to unplug it from your computer) and LITERALLY SIT on the charger for a couple of minutes and then try charging again.

This method has kept me from buying a new charger for over two years since it "broke'! works 100% of the time for me when it refuses to charge.

So, if you think your charger is broken, give this tip a try. You'll save some $$$

    Fire Hazard!!

    • Written by from St. Paul

I couple weeks ago I noticed a burning smell. After getting up several times and scoping out the house, I finaly realized that it was my charger. The wires had frayed and were melting the plastic around them. I can still get my computer to charge a little (out of sheer desperation) by pushing the wiring together, but it is so dangerous that I cannot leave it unsupervised. The white plastic around the wires is melted and brown in color. So dangerous and poorly designed.

    About to buy my fourth...

    • Written by from Hudson

This is a cheaply made laptop charger. I take good care of my chargers, yet somehow they all have stopped working on me and I am now about to buy my 4th charger. This is ridiculous. This is obviously planned obsolescence from the company. It's really too bad I love your operating systems.

How Can Such a Vital Yet Consistently Failing Accessory Go Unfixed?

    • Written by from Syracuse

How many of these poor reviews need to be written by loyal customers? My adaptor almost burned my house down. Not kidding. Smoke and sparks. And I have to cough up $80 on the exact same piece of equipment? That's not just uncool, it's scary.

Go with the T-plug, not the L-plug

    • Written by from Lake Worth

If you need a replacement power adapter try to get the T-plug, NOT the L-plug. The latter is poorly designed, not product-tested and was foisted on the buying public with disdain and arrogance. The L-plug frays at the connection to the computer portal after several month's usage. If you are unfortunate enough to have an L-plug, be sure to reinforce it with electrical tape so that the connection cannot bend. FOR SHAME APPLE. STEVE JOBS IS TURNING OVER IN HIS GRAVE THAT YOU DESIGNED SUCH A PIECE OF JUNK.

    Unfortunately, an ongoing weak point

    • Written by from Longview

Mine is failing at both ends: first at the L shaped plug and second at the power adapter end. This continues to be a weak point on the Mac that Apple needs to figure out.

Horrible design, breaks every 10 months.

    • Written by from Chesapeake

Now I wonder who designed this because they should definitely be fired. I have gone through 5 chargers already, each stopped working because of the same problem: Where the cord and Power Adapter meet, the area is so weak that the cord starts to split and if you use the 'flaps' that are attached you are only weakening that area even more. The laptop used is for my college and it is basically my life- filled with documents and projects for class. With each time the power cord breaks I have to go all the way out to the Apple store and burn $80 dollars on a replacement. I already have to pay university books and tuition. My $400 phones charger still works after 6 years, why shouldn't my $1200 laptops charger last for that long?

Ridiculously terrible design and durability - would give it zero stars if I

    • Written by from Rochester

You would think with all of the horrible reviews - mostly one star - Apple would do SOMETHING to fix their obvious charger problem. My daughter is on her fourth charger - and they are not just breaking, but they are melting. These are unsafe.

    The worst. the absolute worst.

    • Written by from Staunton

I've replaced FIVE of these power cords in less than five years for two different macbook airs. Two of the five were replaced by APPLE because school contract, because I called and endured the hassle of complaining. But really... at 80 dollars each, I've bought the equivalent of 1/2 a new computer. That's just wrong. These are the worst power cords ON THE PLANET. Apple, you're better than this.

    worst.

    • Written by from fullerton

If it was possible to give this product zero stars, I would've. I've already spent $1,000+ on the laptop and having to constantly buy these $80 chargers is a huge waste of money. Come on apple...do you see all these horrible reviews? I know you do. Make a change to the adapters. Please. You know that these chargers are weak and need to constantly be replaced. I understand that the customer has a part in keeping the charger in good condition but after reading these other reviews I know that the product is more of a problem then the care of it. If I have to buy another charger I'm not gonna waste the money or the time and will just give up using my Macbook Pro all together. This is ridiculous.

We don't mind paying if you would just build decent hardware.

    • Written by from Davis

Just bought my third replacement power adapter. Cord keeps falling apart. It costs $80. $80. For a plug. My iPhone/iPad cables fall apart just as fast. It's not me, my PC laptop power cable is still going strong after 5 years. Dear Apple we love you and we don't mind paying so much money for your products, but it is really inexcusable that they are getting so shoddy. Just charge $100 then and give me a decent cord please.

Second power adaptor to go out in 6 months...come on Apple!!!

    • Written by from Vicksburg

How many bad reviews must Apple get before they will take action about these sorry power adapters!!! I will need to buy ANOTHER power adapter (3rd one) in less than 5 months! What a rip off---$79 a pop is highway robbery. I am not a happy camper about having to buy ANOTHER adapter again. I have just enough battery life to write this review. APPLE---I am not a happy camper.

    Cord keeps splitting

    • Written by from woodinville

I bought my macbook in 2010 and I have had to buy numerous chargers because the cords keep splitting and exposing the wire casing and then that breaks open. Not only that, my in my latest charger, the actual prongs in the plus broke off! Now I have to go and buy like my 4th charger and I hardly ever take my computer anywhere so it's not like it's getting beat up.

The cord design is poor quality and at $79 a charger, it's expensive to keep up. I think they should replace chargers that split at a reduced cost because it's a quality issue, not user issue.

    bad design

    • Written by from Saskatoon

    I'm on my third one.

They bend where the wire meets the connector to the computer, weakening the rubber first just below the connector. The rubber wears and then the wires start to split from being work hardened.

Surely all the smart people at Apple can do better.
