I saved my own money for a long time to get a macbook pro when I started college. I wanted to protect my investment so I bought some things for it. I didn't initially think about the keyboard though. I noticed that after a time the keyboard, especially the space bar was getting a very unattractive shiny gloss over it. And the keys felt a little slippery and just not as satisfying to type on. I spend a lot of time typing, and I really didn't want my keyboard getting worn out any time soon. Or to have my entire computer not stand a chance if some water was to sink into the internal parts through the keyboard if something was spilled. The keyboard seems to be the most vulnerable part of the computer in terms of spill damage. The only problem was that I also really, really hate the squishy rubbery feel of most keyboard protectors. I don't want my keyboard to feel like it has a little latex pillow that I have to press through over each key. Tactile response is everything in keyboards. So I did some research and found all of the Moshi products for macbooks.

At first I was a bit disappointed. The cover was rising up in a corner and not laying perfectly flat like I wanted it to. I also had to get used to the new feel, even if it was only slightly different. But after a few days, it just flattened out and now conforms to the macbook perfectly. I really don't notice it all now. My only reminder is the slight clouding of the color of the black keys. But that's only superficial, and well worth it. The back lights show through with no issues whatsoever.

I did a lot of research before picking this one and there seems to be a lot of issues with the cheaper alternatives that deterred me from buying them. Other keyboard protectors that try to color the rubber on top of the keys to either make it more discrete (black) or putting funky colors on it. Maybe a different color can be cute or the black can be less noticeable but it obscures the real keyboard and its back lights. I saw some video reviews where they either didn't show through at all, or they did but the letters on the cover were not in line with the letters on the keyboard. It creating a sort of blurry, layered effect for all of the letters in the dark. Some also didn't actually have the same shape of the keys in the cover, they made the cover completely squared instead of slightly rounded like the keys really are. Some also made the lettering on the keyboard bigger than it was on the keyboard. I thought it made it look pretty juvenile... None of that is an issue with the moshi keyboard because it's just letting the real keys show through. All while avoiding that squish. Why do youtube reviewers think it's a good thing if the cover can stretch like a rubber band...?

Cleaning is very easy, and not needed often anyway. Tactile response is actually a little better now in my opinion. It feels more natural than it did before; after I got used to it, of course. Other keyboard protectors do not compare by a long shot. It's not a floppy piece of rubber. It doesn't stretch like a rubber band when you are handling it. It keeps it shape. And best of all, its discrete. Clearly the length of this review speaks to how easy it is to type on as well :)

    Turns Back The Clock!

    • Written by from Port Colborne

As the title says, this product really takes the wear out of my keyboard. After using my MBP without the cover for 8 months it started to look slightly used, even after a thorough cleaning. Then looking at the keyboard after about a month of using the cover, the keyboard itself looks resilient and factory fresh, without any signs of wear and tear. I'd say it's a great small investment especially since it will cover the keyboard holes and protect from accidental liquid spill as well. Great product. Highly suggested!

    works great-difficult to clean

    • Written by from Anaheim Hills

i purchased this because it looked very promising in the photos on apple. as soon as i got it, it has a slightly loose fit. the only problem was i only had it for about 4 months and it started to get very cloudly and the translucent look on the silicone was going away. i tried washing it coz i thought it was grease and it got a lot worse.

    A Must Have!

I am in love with this product. The clear keyboard protector is almost invisible, and my favorite part is the sound reduction from typing. It is worth the investment. :)

Honestly? It kinda stinks, but you should still buy it.

    • Written by from Kansas City

    1. Sits loosely on the keyboard - nothing to hold it in place, so if you type as fast as I do, you will end up needing to readjust after a few minutes...by that, I mean just run your hand across the keyboard to smooth it out. Not a huge issue, but it is there.

    2. More opaque than photo shows. It looks like exactly what it is...a plastic rubbery thingy flopping around on my keyboard.

    3. Doesn't really lay flat - you can always see a good 1/8" of space between the top row of keys and this protector. This is the main reason why this product is so unsightly. If it really would lie flat, you wouldn't be able to see it quite so much.

    4. It ain't all that thin. That doesn't seem to affect the function, so I wouldn't bring it up if they weren't touting it in their advertising. That said, it definitely feels awkward, especially when it starts lifting up under my fingers.

    5. This product is a necessary evil - If Apple could make their keyboard keys out of a halfway decent material, I wouldn't need this stupid thing.

I'm extremely irritated that my MacBook Pro's keys started showing wear after 5 days of use...that said, I still love the MacBook Pro and recommend it to everyone.

    Better Than Zcover

    • Written by from fountain valley

I've never felt compelled to write a review until now. I returned the Zcover and got this instead. This is so much better. It's a lot thinner, fits well on the keyboard, and doesn't feel like you're typing on the cover. Also, this isn't just for the uni's, it's also for the new white Macbooks. Since it isn't mentioned here but on the Moshi website, I thought I'd write it here.

    It's awesome

    • Written by from San Diego

I've tried other keyboard covers but this is the best by far. Typing with the cover on is almost as enjoyable as typing without one (other covers are so thick that it feels like the keys are glued to the keyboard). The only thing that slightly annoys me is that the cover is so thin that it is very easy for it to slip off, but I'm definitely nitpicking at this point.

I bought this because I have a 4 year old who is constantly around me! I took a little getting used too - but I highly recommend it. It keeps dust, food, drink off your keyboard! When you see what it collects you will be in awe. I am very happy with my purchase, and on top of protecting it from food and stuff it also protects the wear and tear of daily keyboard use. I am a first time user of this product and highly recommend it to everyone! No more air cans for me!!

A bargain at twice the price...

    • Written by from Scottsdale

    This product is pure gold...

The other day I sat down at my beloved MacBook Pro to work on some research. Sat down a fresh cup of tea and got to work. I was two hours into a major project when a book fell from of the shelf, landed on the cup of tea and splash - my desk and my keyboard of the computer were covered in Earl Grey and honey.

The Moshi ClearGuard perfectly protected my keyboard by preventing the sticky liquid from seeping under the keys and destroying my computer and hours upon hours of research. I was able to quickly clean up the mess, and was up and running again within minutes.

    Total Life Saver.

    not that great

    • Written by from Carpinteria

Takes quite a bit of getting used to it when typing and if you type fast and hard, sometimes it flies right off the keys. The biggest annoyance is that when it gets dirty it also transfers A LOT of that dirt on to the screen when you close the laptop.
I've used it for a few days and then realized that it's not really all that useful... It's much better typing without it. Getting a cleaning kit and taking good care of your laptop it's probably a better solution.

    Excellent protection!

    • Written by from fullerton

Ok, so I have a 2009 17" unibody MBP with Speck SeeThru cover and Bodyguardz palmrest & trackpad protector. In addition, I carry it around in a sturdy Swissgear Carbon backpack. Yes, I am overly cautious about protecting my investments. This keyboard protector was a last puzzle to a complete protection inside and outside.

At first, it would not firmly stay on the keyboard, but after a while it slowly settled in and now sits quite nicely on the keyboard. Felt a bit weird typing with this proctector at first, but eventually got used to it and would probably feel violating to touch the keyboard without this protector.

I think it's always good to be safe than sorry. Especially for the black key keyboard MBPs, it is known how easily a stain or dirt can stay on top and/or get inside the computer. I'd rather simply avoid any possible danger to my $3000+ investment.

    Keyboard Protector

    • Written by from Brampton

It is an excellent way to protect your keyboard from dust particles. I have seen keyboards without protectors and if the keyboard was taken apart for cleaning, it was a big surprise for me to see such a mess inside. It may not be visible, but it becomes very dusty inside without the protector and eventually the keys and the processor inside get damaged. I would definitely recommend this product.
'Better safe than sorry' is the way to go.

Great protection and completely unobtrusive. I've had it about a month now and sometimes I have to lift a corner just to make sure it's still on because I swear it has fallen off. I thought the price was a little much at first too, but it fits and protects so well I think it's definitely worth the $$. I'm tempted to buy another one just in case they ever discontinue them because I'd have a sad MBP without it.

    Much better than iskin

    • Written by from Leduc

I had the iskin for my older macbook pro. This one is no comparison. This product is so thin you don't even see it. Typing on it is effortless and so far it has not discoloured like the iskin did.

I recommend this product to everyone.

    Almost Perfect

    • Written by from Orefield

I got this cover to protect my MacBook Pro from finger grease and dirt . . . after owning my MacBook Pro for just over a year, I've noticed that the black keys really start to show these "circles" on the keys where there is finger contact, and I'm guessing it's the cumulative result of the gunk from my fingers slowly building up on the keys. (Do note that I am a very clean person and don't type if my hands are really gross, I guess a certain degree of grease and dirt is just unavoidable.)

I've been using the cover for a few days now, and it seems to be working really well. I like how it silences the keys and makes me feel like I'm being more gentle on the spring mechanism that creates key travel. However, the cover does have a slight "stickiness" to it, and little crumbs and cat hair (I have 3 cats) really seem to stick to it, even though I am not a slob when typing. It also kind of sticks to the screen and makes a weird *skusch* noise every time I open the MacBook.

Other than those minor complaints, overall the product is great. I'm really happy with the cover, and would recommend it if you're looking to protect your keys!

Does not fit MacBook Pro 13" retina

    • Written by from Riverside

When I bought it, this was advertised as fitting all macbook pros, even the 13" retina. I found that it does not sit properly in the well around the keyboard and because of that was not flush with the keys. it was essentially unusable. i hope they come up with one for the macbook 13" retina soon!

    Oh wow...Just unbelievable...

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

I got this about an hour ago, and it is an unbelievably extraordinary product. When I first removed the cover from its mold, I thought it was just a cheaply-made product that couldn't stand up to my fingers or any other debris that would try to get into my keyboard. Boy was I wrong... It is so thin, yet so durable. I just dropped my full pill bottle on it (accidentally of course, and it made a pretty loud sound, but my keyboard was in perfect condition; not even a little nick or scratch. There is absolutely no reduction in key tactility.

I only have one complaint, but it is very minor. When you press the right arrow key really hard and at the same time, really fast, the keyboard cover slips off of the arrow keys.

Other than that con, this product is absolutely perfect. It protects they keyboard from dust, finger oil, and also gives they keyboard a glossy touch, but not too glossy. It is of extremely high quality build, and I recommend that anyone owning a MacBook/MacBook Pro keyboard, wireless keyboard, or wired miniature keyboard from Apple should buy this product along with it. It is an absolute MUST.

    Best Keyboard Cover Ever!

    • Written by from Watertown

I have had this cover for over 6 years. I have to replace it because it has a small tear around the "N" key. However, it saved my computer from a couple of coffee spills in my days and I love it! Going to order another one. Great investment.
