Macworld SF 2002: User Groups Rally in San Francisco

For user groups, there was more to Macworld Expo SF 2002 than walking the show floor and seeing Apple unveil some of the world’s coolest hardware and software. Several events increased user group exposure to the public and allowed user group leaders and members to meet with their peers. It’s amazing what user groups can learn and accomplish when they join together.

Macworld SF 2002 User Group Leaders

Apple User Group University
User Group University offered user group leaders from around the world a full day to participate in interactive sessions on managing and improving their local MUGs.

User Group Apple Breakfast
User group leaders had the opportunity to talk with other leaders and see some great presentations from Apple. Presentation topics included an address from Apple’s User Group Relations manager, Garr Reynolds, as well as outstanding presentations by the iMac and iPhoto product managers.

Apple User Group Guides
User group members were stationed in the Internet Café ready to answer attendee questions, show off the hottest booths on the show floor, and offer information about user groups. Volunteer guides helped over 2300 Macworld attendees.

The User Group Lounge
User group members gathered at the User Group Lounge, a comfy room just above the show floor, to meet and chat with other Mac community enthusiasts and hear presentations from “Mac celebrities.” This space was generously donated by IDG.

Local User Groups
Stationed near the Apple User Group Guides booth, tables manned by user groups from around the west coast were set up with volunteers to answer questions about their local groups. The space was generously donated by IDG.
