User group folks are special, and Apple appreciates their efforts. On October 5, 1999, Steve Jobs introduced some exciting new products at the Flint Center in Cupertino, and 25 local user group leaders from around Northern California sat right up front as VIP guests.
We rolled out the red carpet for these long-time Apple supporters with special badges, a continental breakfast reception, and seating so close to the stage you could spit on it (thankfully no one did). Afterwards we took them over to the Apple cafeteria for a delicious free lunch, gave out a few prizes to take back to the troops, and then moved on to The Company Store for some serious shopping. Passing through the atrium we actually caught a glimpse of Jobs himself, who tossed a friendly hello to the group as he walked by on his way to lunch.
