X10 Home Control
About X10 Home Control
There I was sitting in my Lazy Boy surfing the TV listings on the web with my iPhone. I wanted to dim the room lighting but all the X10 remotes were upstairs. Then I thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice if I could control all that stuff right from my iPhone.” Now I can and so can you. With this inexpensive software you can turn an old PC into a wireless web server that will allow your iPhone to send X10 commands to a serially attached X10 controller. To make it easy I’ve packaged a self installing linux distribution with the control script I use so that you can easily turn almost any old spare PC that has a network port and a serial port into an X10 “server” that you can control wirelessly using your iPhone.
The application URL will allow you to play with a simulator that is the same as my own home control script so that you can see how it will work. The main control script is easily customizable with a text editor but I’ll be glad to customize yours as part of the service. By the way, the menu lamp/device shots are actual lamps in my home for the most part and were taken with the camera built into the iPhone. So you can customize your menu to show YOUR devices with just your iPhone.
