What is this symbol?

I, believe, that I have an iMAC, iPad and iPod all in sync via the iCloud. I have noticed when making a change using one of the devices that a pop up of the app, i.e. mail, shows up on the other device and then goes away after the change. I know this is not explained well but I do not know how to express what I am seeing. If you can help I would appreciate any responses....
