Can I ask Siri to play radio stations that *aren't* on Apple Music? (e.g. "Play BBC Radio 2")

I am thinking of replacing my Amazon Echo with a HomePod but I want to be sure the HomePod can do what I want it to. I have an Amazon Echo and every morning I ask it to "Play Radio 2" or "Play Virgin Radio" and it will play those radio stations. I can't seem to do this with Siri on my iPhone, so assume I won't be able to do it on the HomePod either. I don't want to use Airplay for this. Is anyone doing this successfully?

  • Via AirPlay from an iPhone, iPad or Mac using a radio player like TuneIn. From the autumn ios13 will add multiple radio stations to the HomePod so you can play them direct like you can with Alexa on an Echo.

  • Short answer is no. But what I have done is create a shortcut on my iPhone to play radio 2. With one tap you can set media output to your HomePod, and play Radio 2 from the BBC sounds app. It is how I convinced my wife to let me have one and now she loves it!

  • It won't play directly but you can play them via the app on another Mac device via airplay. For example if you are playing Radio 2 on your MacBook connect to the HomePod and it will play
