Why is it that the material of the purple case is two different colors? Is the darker part of the purple a rubber part?

The darker part you are referring to is not the purple color itself it's actually the protective material that makes Tech21 work to protect the laptop of you drop it. So what you're seeing is the material below the outer shell thus it makes the purple look darker. Hope that helps!
