Will this sleeve work with a hard shell case, and or is there enough extra space in the sleeve to accommodate a Mac with a hard shell case?

No, this case is a perfect fit for your laptop. Any dongles or cases will not fit inside the case.

depending on how thick or thin your case is, it may or may not fit in the sleeve. And even if it did, it would be a very very tight fit.
