The length of an HDMI cable does have a negative effect on signal quality, with manufacturers generally not recommending cables over 20 feet (6 meters). To cover more distance, look into HDMI Balun Kits, which convert to ethernet and back. But it is probably easiest to keep your HDMI devices close together.
