Can the apple pencil be used on all iPads?, Does this pencil last forever or a good long time?

According to the documentation that comes with the pencil: 'With use, the tip of the Apple Pencil will wear down, and you'll need to replace it to avoid damaging the iPad Pro screen.'
The pencil comes with a spare tip.
I've only just bought mine today, so I've no idea yet what the life/durability is going to be like.- Answered by David S
