How to download Mountain Lion freely considering I already had this OS X system and want to downgrade from Sierra now?

Seems like quite a step back, but as I understand it, there would be at least two possibilities (not aware of others):
1. If you have a FULL backup (without app/system exclusions in Time Machine) of your Mac from running Mountain Lion, you could reboot into recovery mode and restore from that backup.
2. Otherwise, log into the Mac App Store and check under "Purchases" for "OS X Mountain Lion"; if there, the button should read "Download". You could download the installer and make a bootable USB flash drive out of it (may need to be at least 8GB).
You'll probably hear this until your tired of hearing it (and then continue to hear it some more, eh?), but... ALWAYS backup EVERYTHING before changing OS. ALWAYS.
