I have a MacBook Air with Catlina just installed. The MS Office Home and Student description states, "One-time purchase for one device, Mac or PC".
Does this mean there is no annual/recurring subscription fee?
Will I be able to easily move files created in Microsoft Home and Student 2008 to this product?
Microsoft has always maintained backwards compatibility with older versions. I imagine this would be the same. I can’t imagine that the 2019 version of Word for example wouldn’t be able to open and edit a 2008 file.

Recently warned that my 2011 version of MS Office for Mac is 32 bit. Would like to know what this is before purchasing.
It's both -- the 32-bit version is automatically installed by default, but you can choose the 64-bit version before beginning the installation process.
If you wish to install the 32-bit version instead after installing the 64-bit version, however, you must perform a full uninstall first.
My research has shown that is one key per computer so you would have to buy two downloads or keys
