Perfect Keyboard If You Want A Disposable Product

I am very unhappy with this keyboard. Like other users, I have gone through more than one. I average about 6 months before at least one of the keys stops responding, followed in quick succession by other keys failing. I contacted customer support and spent several hours, calls, chats, etc. trying to rectify the problem. I had absolutely NO luck. I've also tried the wireless Apple keyboards, same issue - they are great disposable units. SO, if you are aware that this keyboard is actually a disposable - good for six months (maybe if you are lucky) and are prepared to throw it away and get a new one at the high prices they charge, go ahead and purchase.

    They keep Failing

On my third in a row that suddenly fails (multiple keys stop working). This last time the "+" character was stuck on repeat, even though the physical key was not stuck, and two other keys on the keyboard stopped working. All three keyboards were clean and dry. There was never contact with any liquid spill or moisture, even from a rag. Literally no environmental or user related reason for this to have happened. Same issues is happening with colleagues. Of course it's just past the warranty... So bummed and financially stressed by this.

    Third Keyboard in 3 Years

I am really annoyed with this keyboard, this is the third one I have had in 3 years. Now I am opting to spend my hard earned money on an alternative keyboard. The keyboard keys will eventually fail after a few months and there is no way of being able to fix it.

    USB and key issues

I have had this keyboard for 3 years and it has worked fine until recently. I have found other users reviews helpful in that they have experienced the same issues. The USB port sometimes does not recognise the keyboard. Restarting the computer helps with this. I also have the same issue with keys in that they do not recognise when they are struck. Currently the Shift, Caps Lock and (that is w) key is playing up. Yes it missed it when I typed a capital w. It's frustrating for a premium priced product from Apple. I've bought Apple since 1990 and recently have found the quality decline in the past two years. Disappointing.

    Does not always work!

I have 5 of these keyboards and they all suffer from the same issue. I love the typing action and have never experienced any problems with the USB ports as referred to in the comments. All keys function properly and are easy to use. The Fn key being in a different position has never bothered me. The are two main problems however - (1) The keyboard gets dirty quite quickly and (2) EVERY keyboard I have suffers from a capacitance issue that can only be resolved by unplugging the keyboard overnight when the computer is switched off or discharging it by disconnecting it and attaching a card reader to one of the USB ports to use up any retained charge. If I forget to do this I have to allow at least 30 minutes unplugged before the keyboard will function again. I have tried taking them all back to Apple Store in Kingston upon Thames but of course they are discharged by the time I get there and are found to be working normally! I believe the wireless version does not have this issue.

    Very Short lifespan

I'm a MAC user for so many years. It was a nice keyboard until it stopped working just after some 6 months of usage. Really not happy that it didn't last longer after spending much money to get one! Will have to go for a third party one. Don't recommend it!

the alphabet according to my keyboard

keyboard number #3, that is malfunctioning after less than a year's use, is great if you don't use the letters b,g or t.

    Good but not durable

I bought this keyboard as I wanted the number pad on the side. I bought it in December 2016 and everything was working fine and I thought it was a great keyboard. It is now February 2017 and the caps key is stuck on and won't work anymore. I can't believe this only lasted 2 months. I would not recommend buying it as I have seen similar reviews about the same issue.

Selling low quality product with very high price

OK Apple. This is just an another wired keyboard. You don't have to charge that much because your keyboard doesn't last long. Now, some of my keys are not working anymore. It should last much more longer with this much price. Really disappointed. I am going to buy cheaper classic PC keyboard.

This Keyboard > More Expense Magic Keyboard

I cannot believe this keyboard is half the price of the wireless one that has less keys and is less user friendly. I love that the keys are springy and raised up higher than the magic keyboard. It makes it so much easier and faster to type, especially if you have long nails like myself. I struggled to type on the magic keyboard but it is truly a breeze and pleasure on this keyboard. The keyboard is also physically raised up higher versus the magic keyboard, in my opinion making it much easier on your wrists and more effective for quick typing, which is what a keyboard's function is. This keyboard is sturdy and reliable, unlike the magic keyboard that loved to disconnect at times or act strange where I would have to disconnect the bluetooth and reconnect it again.

The only con would be if you have a small work space, the keyboard is pretty long, and competes for space with my mouse and trackpad.

ALL IN ALL, I love this keyboard, I never thought I'd genuinely enjoy a keyboard until I got my hands on this one. Highly recommend it.

Good Keyboard Until It Stops Working

I've had my Apple USB Keyboard with Numeric Keypad for 17 months. It worked great until yesterday when, inexplicably, the 'esc, tilde, tab, and caps lock' keys simultaneously stopped working. My wife has the same keyboard, which I plugged into my MacBook Pro to confirm that my computer was not the source of the problem . . . it wasn't. I tried all of the other tests suggested by online techies to no avail. So, now it appears that I have to go out and buy a new keyboard. I thought Apple products were engineered to last more than 17 months . . . not so, I guess.

    Excellent Keyboard

Super keyboard, responsive and a pleasure to use.
I use it with a MacBook PRO and I can't fault it.

Lot of money for something that won't last

Nice looking keyboard but iMac won't acknowledge it exists. Just something that happens after a year or two. It of course does this on startup so i couldn't log in until I brought an old pic keyboard from work.Imay just stick with that keyboard instead of spending another $50

    Short Lifespan

I'm sorry I have to join the negative club, as it's a very nice keyboard while it lasts. But I've had to replace one for all the reasons listed by others. Keys lose their spring, and just lie flat. They lose their electronic connectivity, and no longer function. They lie lopsided, and cue multiple strikes whenever touched. These things should not occur as they do, at the age of the product that they do (and without warranty support that lasts long enough; unless you're okay getting just one year of protected use from your product).

HORRIBLE! Apple needs to update and improve external keyboards!!!!

I am now on #6....all within 3 years. I am an author who makes her living writing. This keyboard will work one day, and the next, one or two of the keys just stop working. Nothing brings them back. No spills, no drops, no cat or dog hair....it just stops working. Happens EVERY time... these things are EXPENSIVE!!! What is wrong with Apple that they can't produce a reliable external wired keyboard? Tried the Apple wireless keyboard as well - it stopped working after 6 months.

    Unreliable

We purchased quite a few of these for my lab, since they are very elegant and comfortable to use. They average life time however is less than a year, event in clean and proper-used circumstances. We had a lot of problems with keys that pop out and cannot be put back; or with cleaning. On the last one we cleaned, by using a lint-free rug slightly humidified with alcohol on an unplugged keyboard, the whole bottom rowe stopped working, and we could not solve the problem despite hours on internet forums and help sites; this also follows from the fact that the keys need frequent cleaning because of their colour and texture. To our regrets, we will turn to another brand.

    Amazing Keyboard

This is definitely my favorite keyboard of all time. I've purchased 3 or 4 over the years for my various computers, and it has never disappointed. The keys have the perfect amount of travel, and the widely spaced arrow keys are great for gaming. The USB ports on the side are excellent for a wireless mouse dongle or a speaker. It's also well-built, durable, and looks great. I can't recommend it enough!

    Failure Rate

Granted we are protools operators that use the keyboards daily, however I'm looking at a pile of keyboards in my office. I've had over 10 of these die within 3 years. The previous models have lasted 3 time as long. What gives Apple?
