    Do not be tempted

    • Written by SALVATORE V from staten island

Shocked apple has such a low quality piece of hardware. Few months in keyboard started to curve upward and not lay flat. Few more months and constantly get a message saying accessory not supported. Now keyboard will not work at all. Total waste. Shocked at apple.

    Not a very “smart” keyboard

    • Written by Hannah M from Burtonsville

This keyboard has worked for me my 9th grade year. Now it is not. I only have it as a cover, but for my entire 10th and 11th grade year, I have had to use the keyboard on my iPad. I took me forever to get my English essays done on this. So, don’t ever buy this type of keyboard.

Don’t listen to the lovers ... worst keyboard ever

    • Written by John K from Glen Burnie

It doesn’t protect your case. It fails after a year or so. It was adequate until it started dropping the connection to the ipad constantly requiring me to restart the ipad. It flashed “accessory not supported” 50 times and the only way to stop it is wait until its done and click “OK” 50 times or force quit the ipad. It also picks up soil real east because the base is felt. I am an apple guy all the way ... since the macintosh days. This one is a lemon.

    Great Until It’s Not

    • Written by Michael R from Fort Benning

Product stopped working after about one year. Do not purchase unless you want to buy a yearly replacement, or an extended warranty that covers it. “Device not recognized” appears more and more frequently until it becomes unbearable.

    Very bad experience

    • Written by Oscar Z from Montevideo

The magnet is very weak, so it is easy for the keyboard to detach from the iPad and sometimes you stay keeping the keyboard in your hand and the iPad fall, as happened to me. The iPad dropped from my lap to the floor, the screen broke and I had to pay 600 dollars to replace it. A terrible product, unworthy of a brand like Apple.

It’s the worst Apple product since Apple TV

    • Written by David W from Seal Beach

When the keyboard works, it’s a lovely experience. When it works. After a year of toggling and moving the keypad to get a connection (you know, slight shift to the right), it finally doesn’t work anymore. If you go online, there is no denying that it is a widespread that Apple has chosen to ignore and leave it’s customers in the lurch. I have tried everything online and through Apple support, and no one can help me. Severely Disappointed!

Really just an expensive screen cover

    • Written by Bonnie T from Converse

As often as this thing fails especially after system updates, you’d think all those brilliant designers and engineers would be able to anticipate this and test a little more thoroughly before pushing to market. This is the only keyboard solution for iPadPro 12.9” that doesn’t add so much weight you might as well be carrying a laptop. Important as that is, a keyboard should also allow one to type. Not so much brilliance here, Apple. Keyboard failures start off intermittently after only a couple of months of use and rapidly accelerate toward being a completely unrecognized device. I had exactly the same experience with both the original purchase and the warranty replacement—I just recognized it faster with the replacement. Even now I am typing this review using the virtual keyboard, elevating the Smart keyboard to the status of most over-priced iPad cover I’ve ever bought, since it’s really just a stand that only tilts to one viewing angle.

    Light and convenient. Highly unreliable

    • Written by AMRITA N from Coralville

I bought this keyboard because it is slim and lightweight. From a functionality perspective, it has been extremely disappointing. It worked fine over the first couple of months. Then I started experiencing occasional connectivity problems. After about a year I had regular connection issues. Its been less than two years now and the keyboard doesn't work at all. Buy something else.

    • Written by David L from ANCHORAGE

Loved it while it worked. Now it’s just a cover/stand. It started gradually and now almost never works. Used to be when it stopped working I would disconnect and reconnect and it would be fine. Now it rarely connects. Lasted about a year.

    Smart Keyboard

    • Written by keith S from Saginaw

Just like every other dissatisfied customer my Smart Keyboard stopped working just as the warranty expired. As a long term Apple customer I’m disgusted by the lack of reliability, service and failure of Apple to take care of their customers. I will be hesitant to buy any more Apple products in the future.

Keyboard was a pain from the beginning

    • Written by Stetson F from Bartlett

Yes when it works it is great. It functions as ANY keyboard should. When it does not, you want to throw it across the room. Unfortunately mine works a fraction of the time and only after physically resetting the connection a dozen times (pulling the ipad off the keyboard and letting it click back on, repeat x12 - minimum). Even after all of that the stars have to be aligned just right.
Researching a bluetooth kb replacement now. Those that have already been thru this misery i would love any advice on what you have found to replace this ipad stand with.

    WORKS BEAUTIFULLY, UNTIL IT DOESN’T

    • Written by Kim S from Las Vegas

I’ve loved the convenience of this keyboard, but it should absolutely have better quality/durability for the price, as this is not consistent with the brand. I’ve had the all of the same problems as everyone else here. I feel like I wasted my money. I had my keyboard for about 14 months before it started short circuiting.

I wish I would have seen the reviews before I purchased. As you see from others it is a great keyboard for a few months and then stops working.

    • Written by Jean-Marc D from Mont Dore

Work well... when it wants. That is to say, not often. You'll pass more time to try to connect it than type on it.
    For the price, it's scandalous.
Juste want to leave Apple and come back to Android!

    A complete failure

    • Written by Kim On A from Markham

It only worked for a few of months, then it became a very expensive iPad stand. It kept on saying ‘device is not supported’ even though the software is up to date. I’ve never dropped the keyboard and the iPad was always stored in a protective case. I went to Apple and they refused to fix nor to change it because it was not something they covered (I guess there were too many returns to handle with such poorly design product). I would probably never buy any newly designed product from Apple again.

    Abysmal product support

    • Written by Janis K from Tyngsboro

Bit the bullet and bought the stupid-expensive 12.9 ipad pro, because I used my old 3rd gen ipad so much, but wanted one I could type on a tactile keyboard with. Bit the bullet while cringing and bought the stupidly-expensive smart-keyboard to go with it. Then comes along iOS11 with all its problems which had me swearing at Apple every day I used one of their products, so I had no idea that the "accessory not supported" messages happening with increasing regularity was something other than just another one of their annoying bugs I had to endure... by the time I had learned about their "free replacement" program for the keyboards, I was one month past 3-years in, so nope, I gotta dish out MORE money to get what I (as a developer/programmer) see as behaviors indicative of a software or firmware issue they don't want to fix/acknowledge, and simply want me to dish out more money for more garbage that is probably going to be junk in another <3 years.

After gladly drinking the Kool-Aid and dishing out money hand-over-fist for what had always been promises delivered on quality, I'd say I've been burned so badly over the past 2 years with subpar mundane every-company mediocrity that I'm slowly pulling the Apple tentacles out of my life and jumping ship... which is really sad, since I've been a hard-core Mac-head since 1987. They need to remember Jobs didn't jump on every good idea that came through the door - they need to tighten up their product line and stop trying to throw the kitchen sink at us and simply do what they do FLAWLESSLY. Don't follow the Microsoft scrum/agile feature+deadline=profit model - it's worthless. Apple was built on it reputation for unrelentless zen quality, not the status quo. Now it's just coming off as trite and greedy - it can't come up with any one innovative idea to do well, so it simply throws everything at everyone in mediocrity, and says a la Tom Sawyer, "I'll let you pay me for the privilege of painting this fence." No thanks.

These keyboards stop working after a short time

    • Written by Vito A from San Diego

The keyboard was great while it lasted, but it only lasted a few short months. Now it generates the same Device Not Compatible error message that many others here are reporting, and it completely stopped working.

Apple, you need to fix something that is fundamentally flawed in the design.
