I can say, I HATE it

    • Written by Isael T from Austin

At first, I thought it was pretty cool. It is comfortable and works well WHEN it connects. Disconnecting it and reconnecting it should do the trick and fix it, but after time passed it would not connect. I first thought it was the software update or the new iOS version not being compatible. I tried everything I would suggest other customers but the issue was intermittent and impossible to predict when it would happen. I waited too long to take it in for repair as the issue was not constant, so after two years, I RIPPED the keyboard apart and feel much better now. Other issues, the keyboard unsnaps too easily and often, as well as does not really hold the iPad upright well enough. Not to mention it ONLY does it in one single position which is with the Home Button to the Right, and vertical is out of the questions. SO say goodbye to verticle gaming. But, it's still your best option out there.

    Broke in two years...

    • Written by Melanie S from Elk Grove

It started skipping letters and then when i hit the delete key it would keep deleting until everything from my text was gone. I took it to apple to see if there was anything they could do and they just smiled and said that it would be a hundred something for a new keyboard. WOW, this thing isn't cheap and they acted like it was no big deal.

When it worked i loved it. The touch is different but i got use to it in no time. Just disappointed that it died in two years.

    Terrible writing experience

    • Written by Xiaoxiao Z from New farm

I bought this smart keyboard because I do not like typing on virtual keyboard. I liked the convenience of the apple keyboard but after I used it for typing a short article, my fingers feel very tired. I can only type on it for replying emails or social media messages. Otherwise it’s just not worth typing on it for the better iPad Pro screen. I would rather use my MacBook Air for typing articles. I end up returning it a week later. If I ever need to use iPad for creating real content, I will get a Bluetooth magic keyboard for it.

    Apple, Are You Listening?

    • Written by Tyila C from Upatoi

Great keyboard when it works. It is easy to use, lightweight, slim and I find the key sensitivity to be just right. On the flip side, the connectivity is unreliable. I often have to reconnect the keyboard several times before I get sound connection. A message indicating that “This accessory is not supported by this device” is a regular part of the routine. Overall I enjoy my apple products and I’m looking forward to a fix for this one. Until then, the keyboard is not very smart.

    Great when it works

    • Written by ROBERT O from Lawrenceville

I’ve had myiPad Pro for almost 3 years. The “smart” keyboard is great as it doesn’t add much weight or bulk to the iPad Pro and works great when it works. Howver, the “accessory not supported” has become more frequent. I’m hard pressed to believe that this is a software problem. Seem s more like an intermittent cable issue in the keyboard. If this keeps up, I’ll have to look at an alternative.

    Lasted a Few Years

    • Written by Paul R from Kingston

Same problem as many others. "This accessory not supported." I tried the Logitech product. Nothing wrong except it does not work well in my lap where I use it most. So its going back.

I'll buy another Apple Smart Keyboard and get an a extended warranty. When it works its great.

Apple: With so many complaints, you need to take a good look at what the problem is. Wake up the engineering people.

    Love it while it works

    • Written by Kimberly M from Greensboro

The feel and function of this keyboard is unbeatable. It has some texture to it while typing without being too loud. BUT, as many other people have already described, Apple is selling you a ticking time bomb.

I was lucky enough to have my first one give out in the 11th month. The replacement they gave me lasted 16 months with painstaking care taken during that time not to stress the fragile ribbon connector (use on flat surfaces whenever possible, carefully open and close, etc.). For 2 to 2.5 years of functionality, I’m not willing to shell out another $170. I depend on my iPad for work and can’t handle the stress of fighting with it every 3 minutes to get it to work until I can get a backup in place. This latest fail popped up while I was working during an 8 hour flight, I nearly lost my mind. How does Apple get away with selling this when it KNOWS the product will fail in an unreasonably short time?!?

Don't listen to the hater haters

    • Written by Rory M from Irving

It was good for a while. I suspect the glowing reports are from people who haven't yet put the keyboard to much use, because, notwithstanding my extraordinary care, my 2nd Smart Keyboard just failed. I suspect the ribbon connector that is ingeniously laser cut directly into the soft hinge on the cover can only take so many bends before it breaks. Apple replaced the first one for free since it failed before the 1yr warranty had run out, this one is not under warranty so I've got to get out my wallet.

You'll know you're getting close to failure when the structure of the cover begins to slump and the keyboard begins to lift off the table when you set it up to type. Pretty soon after that, you'll get the "this accessory is not compatible with this device" message. Then the keyboard will become intermittent. Then it will fail altogether.

The bottom line is that the Smart Keyboard is a pretty expensive consumable accessory. If you're lucky and the 1st one fails under warranty, you'll get a replacement for roughly the same service life. That way you'll only have to pay for every 3rd once every 1 year and 8 months or so.

This keyboard is nice and pain

    • Written by Norbert Helmut M from Osnabrück

I really like this keyboard... when it works.
Sometimes it takes me hours to get that run. It always shows the screen keyboard instead. Why does Apple iOS try to check the orientation or position of the iPad? I just want to use it when I want to. So turn it on, when the adaptor is connected. When it is connected I am very fast on this keyboard but when the keyboard fails during my lessons it makes me grrr...

BTW it's really nice how Apple check the content of these comments to prevent words like h.ll

    Same experience

    • Written by Joe and Sharon D from harwich port

I too have had the same experience with the keyboard. It worked great until an os update sometime ago. Since then I constantly get an “unsupported device” message and then it doesn’t work. If u wait some time with the iPad on it may eventually connect. Again prior to the update it was great.

It works, but then it doesn't after a while

    • Written by Jeffery C from Edmonton

I enjoyed this product for at least the first three weeks, then I uploaded the beta of Apple's iOS 11. Since then my keyboard has been bunk! It kicks out every time I go into Mail and then I have to restart and reset my iPad. I've done this over and over again. Now my iPad won't even recognize my keyboard. This is the worst product from Apple since those hockey puck-mouses they created for their original iMacs in the late 1990s, early 2000s.

    Apple Keyboard Unreliable

    • Written by Dr. P. Antoine B from Waldorf

Like many others, I also received the message "accessory not supported." I too have an Apple keyboard. I also tried the customer support line; did a reboot as instructed, and it worked for 1-day. When I contacted Apple, the technician said I have to get it repaired. A keyboard with a life expectancy of 16-months is not "quality." Apple leaders: You see these comments and everyone is reporting similar experiences. Step up to the plate and fix the issue. Give us a replacement for free (or at least a significantly reduced price). Whomever Apple staff member that monitors these reviews and does not elevate the issue to the leadership - shame on you!

    nice typing experience, not reliable

    • Written by kelly S from Minneapolis

I get the inexplicable "this accessory is not supported error" randomly, and now it seems to be just dying. Connection started to get spotty 3-4 months ago and getting progressively worse, have to re-seat it multiple times, tried wiping the connectors, just failing to the point where it's unusable. This with very light use as well, quite disappointing. This and warranty is provided as an accessory (12 months coverage) not via Apple Care, even more irritating. I'll be looking elsewhere for a replacement.

    OK BUT

    • Written by Jaime B from Roseville

I like the minimalist and lightweight profile. It was working well at first. However, over time, the reliability diminished. The connection is not stable. I had to reboot my iPad Pro frequently to reconnect the keyboard again. I switched to the Logitech Create, and it was very reliable. However, it was was bulky. I realize you can't have everything, but reliability is a must, especially if you're paying that much.

    Unreliable and hard to exchange

    • Written by Ben F from DENVER

I’m on my second Smart Keyboard. Apple acknowledged a problem with the first version - the keys didn’t work. I got a free exchange. It’s the same problem with the second version. Done with Apple Smart Keyboards. Suggest looking for a well-rated, third party product. I brought in the second one and was told “No,” that there was not a problem with it. The problem only happens some of the time.

    Too heavy

    • Written by luis A from Madrid

The lightness and portability of the device gets compromised
Also is good that fits well but it gets too attached to the screen, which makes it uncomfortable when working for a few hours.
A lighter keyboard would cover for that
