    Great Keyboard

    • Written by Elishia M from Cupertino

I purchased this keyboard along with the Apple Pencil and my iPad Pro. It works like a charm. I think the magnet weakens over time but the keyboard lasted and is very effective and fun. Make sure that you have it setup properly or your iPad can slide. In addition there were no flaws in design. It was perfect for using on your lap, desk or table. Once you understand how to use it. It's simple.

    great keyboard but poor reliability

    • Written by Alberto R from Saint Paul

I have seen a lot of reviews giving the keyboard either 1 or 5. And I agree with both. I had this keyboard for 2 years and it worked flawlessly, then it started not connecting. The type feel is excellent and response rate is also great. I have used it on a table and I wonder if this kept it from being bent. In any case Apple replaced it as the warranty has been extended to 3 years. So I give it 5 stars for performance and 1 star for reliability. But since Apple has extended the warranty, this is less of an issue.

Fantastic keyboard . . . if you get the latest version ;-)

    • Written by Mark G from Dallas

I bought this keyboard along with my first generation iPad Pro 12.9 in late 2015. It worked . . . for a while. Then I began to experience periodic "disconnects" when the keyboard would disconnect from the smart connectors and the on-screen keyboard would appear. Because the problem was sporadic, I assumed that it was dust or dirt creating the problem. So I cleaned and cleaned the connectors. But the problem remained.

When I read that Apple was issuing a recall for this keyboard, I took it in to my local Apple store. After testing it (and verifying the random disconnect problem), they replaced the keyboard on the spot.

And the new one: MARVELOUS (as Billy Crystal would say). Better travel on the keys, more rigid construction, and no problem with disconnection. THIS is the keyboard I had expected and now, three years later, I have.

Good things come to those who wait . . . and when Apple chooses to fix the problem ;-)

If you have a 12.9 iPad Pro and need/want a keyboard, this new one won't disappoint. My iPad Pro is now almost a laptop replacement thanks to having a reliable keyboard.

Great for a while. To be great again?

    • Written by Josh W from Kansas City

I bought this with the Apple pen and my iPad Pro for school about 13.5 months ago. Initially this was the greatest tech and note-taking combination I had ever had. Connection was flawless, response time seamless, and function was phenomenal.

6 months ago that started to change. Connection broke several times, keystroke recognition slowed, and I had to constantly adjust the positioning of my iPad to get the connection back.
4 months ago I began having to detach and reattach the keyboard to get it back - often multiple times for each instance.
2 months ago I began receiving spastic 'battery charging' readings (and sounds, the one that plays when you plug something into the lightning port) which lead to the screen not staying off and the battery draining when not in use. This issue persisted whether in cover-form or keyboard-form.
Throughout this evolution I was working with Apple-approved technicians to find fixes, hence some of the stuff I tried above.

Now I have a completely non-functional, $169.99 keyboard. I can still use it as a stand, I guess. 3 stars because product WAS great, but is now broken.

Called Apple support and luckily they (Becca) have been incredible for helping me with replacing the product. I got set up with express-replacement and should be expecting that any day now. This customer service is the reason why this product maintains a 5 star rating - one I believe that the product deserves besides the issues above.

Hopefully this one lasts longer, but for now I am pleased!

    Excellent keyboard

    • Written by Anirvan G from Waterloo

Honestly, this is a great keyboard.

It uses the same technology as the new MacBook Pro keyboards, so they are light to type on. The keyboard doubles up as a light and thin case for the iPad Pro, so its easy to carry. I’ve typed long documents using this keyboard and its been comfortable.

Other reviews have said that it doesn’t come with a back cover for the iPad, but that’s not a drawback. This is a keyboard that doubles up as a screen cover so protecting the back was never one of its functions. And you can easily buy a back cover for cheap if you like.

Alternatives like the Logitech keyboard are good, but add significant weight to the iPad, so it would no longer remain the sleek, slim tablet that you bought.

    Best Keyboard I've Used

    • Written by Owen M from Arvada

The 12.9 is a actual full sized keyboard and is in part what keeps me on the 12.9 iPad Pro. I have the second generation iPad Pro, but the nice thing is I can upgrade and use the same keyboard cover.

As a masters level student, I've now typed over 100 pages of research paper on the iPad Pro and the Smart Keyboard and I wouldn't go back. There is a learning (feeling) curve when you first move to any of Apple's low travel keys, but I've slowly been moving that direction for 5 years and I wouldn't go back to pushing my old PC keys that traveled half and inch every time. My speed and accuracy is identical to a physical keyboard.

I would even go out on a limb and say that the fabric keys on the Smart Keyboard is my favorite keyboard to type on. Also its spill proof, which I have yet to test, but I'm glad a worse case scenario is a new Smart Keyboard instead of a new computer.

A nice alternative to cheap feeling keyboard cases

    • Written by Ian W from Cedar Grove

This keyboard might not have as much key travel as the others but is very quiet and is very nice to type on. It also feels like it is worth the amount that you are paying. The others are all plastic and just don’t feel like they are worth the amount that you are paying for them.

It's a keyboard people, and smart cover.

    • Written by Nickole L from Bregenz

Don't overthink it. No, it doesn't have a holder for the pencil, or a back cover. GOOD. I don't want bulk and unnecessary bits in my way. It works as a smart cover, the keyboard is easy and precise to use AND it fits inside my leather sleeve which has a pencil holder. All the protection I need plus it's not too bulky so if I travel, I can easily slide it inside my carryon.

No charging the keyboard, no needing an extra cable, no extra bulk. Does what I need it to do. Functional and simple.

    I'm satisfied.

    Almost Skipped This Great Product!

    • Written by Llana G from Haiku

Due to some of the negative reviews, I almost skipped purchasing this great product! I love this keyboard. This is one of the best keyboards I’ve used in a lifetime of tech geek living. It works immediately and smoothly, feels good to use, and levels up my iPad Pro to competitive with my MacBook Pro in a lot of ways. I’m thrilled!

I’m not sure what happened to the people who were disappointed with this product. But honestly, even if the lifespan of this product isn’t ideal, I’d buy it again as long as it lasted at least a year each time. I guess we’ll see.

Until that time, thank you Apple. Excellent accessory!

    Well designed solution

    • Written by Jack M from Sewickley

I've been using the Smart Keyboard for about 2 years now. The quality of the keyboard is not going to live up to a "real" keyboard, but it works well enough, and I consider it to be a good trade-off against the compactness and weight of the cover. The magnetic connection makes it a literal snap to attach, always aligning perfectly. And, the material really does keep the screen clean.

My only complaint is that just recently, a dialog has been popping up occasionally saying that the accessory isn't compatible. I don't know if it's a software glitch or a bad physical connection.

    Works Just Fine

    • Written by Julianna W from Seven Valleys

I’ve had this keyboard for almost two years and got it when I got my iPad Pro. It works perfectly fine and I’ve never had issues with it. I’m a college student and write all my papers and take all my notes on my iPad using the keyboard and it still works like when I got it, not sure why a lot of people are complaining I’ve never had any of these issues. Pushing on the keys has a nice feel only thing is that it can get dirty but wiping it with some electronic spray cleans it up. Saw bad reviews for the Apple Pencil which I wanted but saw even worse reviews for the keyboard, I enjoy my keyboard so I will probably still be buying the pencil.

Best Keyboard I've tried. Sleek Look & Easy

    • Written by Carolla D from Piermont

Best keyboard ever. Okay no place for a pen and no back protection, but you can buy Tech 21 Impact Clear Case for 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd Generation) from Apple site which shows off the back and has a pencil holder. Problem solved. Thought about this long and hard because it is not cheap. It is truly great how easy it is to switch from having a keyboard to using it like a slate.

    A true winner.

I LOVE this product. It turned my iPad Pro 12.9 into a laptop. the keyboard has a wonderful feel, the hinge for the cast is such a great addition, and the ability to detach my keyboard when I need to draw ( I'm an illustrator ) is what sold me on this. My only complaint is that when folded up in clamshell mode ( the iPad is fully covered over) , the keys are still active and if you apply any pressure around the keyboard part, the music turns on which is fairly annoying. I sometimes find my iPad playing music in my bag by itself because of this issue. My only solution is to turn off my iPad to prevent this . I would love it if it were possible for logitech to update the firmware disabling the keys when the iPad is shut in order to prevent this from happening.

To me, it is worth it

    • Written by Doug E from Box Elder

I realize the price of this product is ridiculous, however, it is exactly what I was looking for in a keyboard folio. 1). The way the keyboard secures the position of the device is excellent. What I mean is, when using the keyboard the iPad is set and stable. There is no flop whatsoever. Because of this, I can place the keyboard in my lap without reservations of the device separating and falling to the floor. To simply say, when using the keyboard the iPad and the keyboard is as solid as one unit. 2). This setup fits comfortably in my lap, and the angle of the screen is nice. Note: I do have longer legs than most, as I am 6’4” tall. 3). I must admit that I didn’t think much of the keys feel or travel... until I got it home! I am not sure what happened to my prior thoughts but now I approve. So much so that I am saying they feel perfect. 4). I thought I would want a trackpad, but discovered it isn’t necessary. With easy to learn keyboard shortcuts I don’t find myself wanting one.
In closing, I wanted to rate this product 4 stars due to its insulting price, but I can’t rate it less than 5. I am enjoying it that much.

    Met my standards

    • Written by Alfredo D from Hilmar

I am a full time student and I am constantly using my iPad and keyboard for school. This keyboard is efficient, minimalistic, and does the job perfectly. It may not be the most beautiful keyboard in the whole world and it’s no where near the worst. I am not super picky about keyboards, but I do understand why some people are, so if you are I recommend trying out this product in the store and making the decision for yourself. This keyboard serves as an awesome screen cover and it is so perfect for the small desks I use at school. I love it and I am very pleased with my purchase. As always.

P.S. I never write reviews EVER but I believe this keyboard deserved one.

    So Far So Good

    • Written by Jessica C from New Haven

I love the keyboard so far. I read all of the reviews, and bought it. Granted, it's only been a month. I had the IPad Pro smaller version before I upgraded to the new Pro 12.9. Yes, it is missing a spot to secure the pencil, but I didn't let that sway me. I have a nice case to hold it or a strap to attach it if I want to. I do wish there was a back cover and a number pad. What I really miss, in case anyone at Apple reads these, is a backlight function. I do a lot of nighttime reading/typing and would love that. Unless it is here and I am missing it. But so far it connects immediately, I've not had any issues there, it's light, keys are easy to use. Maybe the next one will have a little scroll pad on it haha, then I would probably never use my laptop again.
