  • Overview

The Elgato Thunderbolt 2 Dock enables you to connect numerous devices to your MacBook at once. With two Thunderbolt 2 ports, you can connect your MacBook with only one cable and simultaneously enjoy the extended versatility of Thunderbolt.

A built-in HDMI port can drive any display of your choice up to 4K resolution, while three additional SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports ensure that all of your devices are connected when you need them, at full speed and with up to 1.5A of power. Tap into the full performance of wired network connections with the built-in Gigabit Ethernet port and enjoy crystal-clear conference calls through the separate microphone input and amplified audio output.

    Thunderbolt 2

Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices via one simple port and a cable that carries both DisplayPort and PCI Express data. And it’s standard on every Mac.

PCI Express is the technology that links all the high-performance components in a Mac. And it’s built into Thunderbolt, which means you can get PCI Express speed outside the box.

With Thunderbolt 2 now built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect up to 4K display. Thunderbolt 2 gives you up to 20 Gbps in both directions, allowing for super-fast data transfer between peripherals. You also have enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without using a hub or switch.

Thunderbolt also provides double the power of USB 3.0, delivering 10 watts to peripherals for improved performance on the go.

Somet The big selling point for this item is that you only have to connect one cable to "dock". However, the gigabit ethernet port would very rarely re-connect. Sometimes "re-docking" would work, other times I would have to fumble round the back of the dock and remove & reconnect the ethernet cable. Although a nice little package, the poor functionality from the Gigabit Ethernet port is a let down.

Good, with a couple of minor points to note

Happy with the the performance of this device - works as advertised and does a mundane job well. Two downside points to note: first, it only comes with a 50cm T Happy with the the performance of this device - works as advertised and does a mundane job well. Two downside points to note: first, it only comes with a 50cm Thunderbolt cable (and no other cables), which may not be long enough for your needs; second, the headphone amplifier built into the device imparts a noticeable hiss, which doesn't happen when the headphones are plugged directly into the Mac. Otherwise it's small and light and does a good job.

      Multiple Monitors

Using two of these lets you connect multiple monitors (as well as other peripherals) to the single thunderbolt port on a Mac book air.
