Overview
An all-in-one solution, the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Express Dock HD lets you power your Mac, drive two 4K displays simultaneously*, and get up to 40 Gbps of super-fast data transfer with just a single cable.
In total, the dock supports one 5K display or two 4K displays. And with two built-in Thunderbolt 3 ports, you can connect your Thunderbolt 3–enabled Mac and daisy-chain up to five additional Thunderbolt devices at the same time.
For the first time, Thunderbolt 3 technology supports dual 4k displays*, letting you connect to both the DisplayPort and Thunderbolt 3 ports included on the dock. (Compatible with other USB-C video adapters such as HDMI and VGA sold separately.)
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a truly universal port, combining the versatility of USB-C with data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps. It supports charging, high-speed PCIe data transfer, DisplayPort, VGA and HDMI (via supported adapters) — all from a single port. And it’s completely reversible, so no matter how you plug in, it’s always the right way up.
Offering double the speed of the previous generation, Thunderbolt 3 supercharges data transfer between peripherals, leaving you with plenty of bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without a hub or switch.

Can I connect 3 Apple Thunderbolt 2 displays?
- Asked by Adam P from Beverly
- on 18/09/2018
Answer
As I understand it, there are only 2 video streams available per Thunderbolt 3 connection. A single As I understand it, there are only 2 video streams available per Thunderbolt 3 connection. A single stream will support up to a 4K display, each display will use one stream. To attach 3 4K (or lower resolution) displays, that would require 3 streams. A 5K display utilizes both streams because of the additional pixels, it is only possible to connect 2 5K displays to a TB3 MacBook Pro (one to each side of the laptop). You can connect 1 Apple Thunderbolt display to the Belkin dock's, Thunderbolt 3 connection via Apple's TB 3 to TB 2 adapter. You can then connect a 2nd Apple Thunderbolt display to the Thunderbolt port on the rear of the first display, connecting them via a daisy chain. You cannot connect a 3rd display to the back of the 2nd as there are no more available video streams on that device chain. You can connect a 3rd Apple Thunderbolt display to an available Thunderbolt 3 port on the other side of the MacBook Pro from where the Belkin dock is connecting. Each side of the 15-inch MacBook Pro can supply two video streams. That's how you could connect 3 Apple Thunderbolt displays to one computer. The DisplayPort connection on the dock isn't going to help you with an Apple Thunderbolt display. This would use one available video stream for a 2nd monitor that is DisplayPort compatible. You can even use DisplayPort to DVI adapters on the dock if that's what your monitor has. There are no DisplayPort to Thunderbolt monitor adapters. I don't look at it as a limitation of the dock, all TB 3 docks work this way, its a limitation in the Thunderbolt 3 connection and the available video streams on a single connection.

I have tried 1 Dell 4K monitor and 1 5K LG Thunderbolt 3 and these worked together. The Dell display used DisplayPort and the LG display connected to the 2nd Thunderbolt 3 port on the dock. Does not work with the MacBook which only has a single USB-C interface. Be aware, the USB-C interface looks just like Thunderbolt 3, but does not offer the higher capabilities of Thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt 3 interfaces on shipping Macs also function as a USB-C port when USB-C peripherals are attached.
