I have never had an apple product with this terrible of quality. For $50 should definitely last longer especially not used much and always put up when not in use. Would not recommend wasting your money.

Poor Video Quality and No Audio Out of Headphone Jack

The result is the vid Instead of outputting native HDMI, this little device seems to take the output from the phone, compress it, and pass along an HDMI signal. The result is the video quality is far below good HD quality. Expect all kinds of artifacts and other issues including lower than expected HD resolution. This is not a device that can replace a good streaming alternative, which is too bad considering Apple's devices are more than powerful enough for that purpose. For those of us hoping to use our phones or iPads to connect in business settings to display content, be aware that audio is only transmitted through the lightening port when this is plugged in, which gives no audio out through the headphone jack. That means that if you are plugging this into a projector's HDMI input, you are likely going to lose any sound that goes along with your presentation (or anything else) as most quality projectors do not have speakers. This is a big oversight in my opinion as lots of devices keep the analog audio out of a headphone jack or the like live while also transmitting sound over HDMI. Similarly, sound is not also sent via bluetooth when this is plugged in, so that's not an alternative either. I have both the bluetooth and headphone jack options open on my laptop, which has an HDMI out. So much for replacing a good old laptop.

Possible solution - works for now

Having similar issues to what others have posted and through trial and a lot of error have figured out a sequence that works for me on the iPhone anyway. Here i Having similar issues to what others have posted and through trial and a lot of error have figured out a sequence that works for me on the iPhone anyway. Here it is in order: 1. Disconnect everything from the adapter and wait about 10 seconds 2. Connect power cord to adapter 3. Connect HDMI to adapter 4. Turn on your TV/Display which should already have the other end of the HDMI cable attached 4. On iPhone (haven’t tried with iPad) make sure you toggle off everything wireless - WiFi, bluetooth, personal hotspot, airdrop and cellular data 5. Connect adapter to iPhone and wait until you see the adapter icon show up at the top right of the iPhone screen and then in a couple of seconds the iPhone screen will be mirrored on the TV 6. Once the mirror starts, you should be able to start adding back the wireless options you toggled off previously, I typically restart cellular data then bluetooth followed by WiFi and because I use this at our lake house which has no WiFi I start my personal hot spot last which grays out the WiFi I just started....I know, I know it sounds redactively redundant but none of this makes sense anyway and it seems to work...for now 7. Play your video that you downloaded or if you’re streaming, stream away 8. Hopefully this works for you, if it does, then pay it forward by voting in the 2020 presidential elections, if it doesn’t, let others know so they don’t waste their time.

Don’t waste your time or money!

Worked fine the first time using it (for 20 mins), and then spent two hours trying to get it to work a second time.
