    Ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Extreme gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.1 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-design

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Extreme now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-setup

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Extreme and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-share

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Extreme can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos, and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Extreme. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Extreme features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Excellent range, superb speeds, quick and easy set up, looks great. Supports local loopback feature which I really needed, the old standard package router I used to use has nothing on this new AirPort Extreme. Looking forward to using 802.11ac devices with it. Highly recommended, overall a great buy.

Delighted so far, setup was straightforward, done in less than 10 minutes from opening the box. Gigabit ethernet is delivering the full bandwidth from my cable modem for the first time and the wireless coverage is uniformly excellent in my thick walled and three storey Victorian terrace, noticeably quicker for my n capable devices. I don't have any ac devices yet to test those even higher speeds. Wireless sharing of a Kodak printer also working as hoped. Happy to recommend - nice job Apple.

I thought I was having internet connection issues with my cable provider but turns out it is the airPort Extreme. Too bad, I like apple compatibility and simplicity but the reliability for this product is not there. I do not recommend this.

      Works perfectly

Never had a problem with it, it doesn't overheat and it doesn't make any noise. The LED blinks yellow when a software update is available. I can see some users reported here about their devices failing after 1-2 years, I'm waiting to see if mine behaves ;) Too bad Apple (reportedly) discontinued this product series, I suppose the next HomePod iteration may also act as a WiFi router?

We have numerous Apple products (two iMacs, two iPads, two iPhones) and am shocked by the low quality of this product. From seeing the other reviews, it looks like this is a very common problem with this unit.

The coverage is great, and the reliability of the product has been excellent. I haven't had to restart them for any reason other than normal (updates, etc.) Roaming between the devices is working well. The only caveat is that one of my friends has reported issues configuring these if you don't have an Apple OS X or iOS device to set it with.
