  • Overview

Redesigned and rechargeable, Magic Trackpad 2 includes a built-in battery and brings Force Touch to the desktop for the first time. Four force sensors underneath the trackpad surface allow you to click anywhere, and detect subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply, bringing increased functionality to your fingertips and enabling a deeper connection to your content. Magic Trackpad 2 also features an edge-to-edge glass surface area that is nearly 30 per cent larger than the previous trackpad. This design, along with a lower profile, makes scrolling and swiping through your favourite content more productive and comfortable than ever.

Magic Trackpad 2 pairs automatically with your Mac, so you can get to work straight away. And the battery will power your Magic Trackpad 2 for about a month or more before needing a recharge.

Unfortunately, I do quite a bit -- and each time I press to 'click and drag'; the file opens, or previews, or gives me a definition, etc. Click too light, nothing happens. Click too hard, it does everything but pick up what I'm selecting to drag. I have to keep my magic mouse next to my new trackpad just for clicking and dragging. Great concept -- not executed to the "it just works" Apple standard.

      Incredibly frustrating to use

Random clicks happen all the time and half the time instead of a regular click or worse a double click it registers a right click. Scrolling with 2 fingers sometimes causes it to think I am using 3 fingers which it then takes several seconds to recover from. And as for force clicking, previewing is almost never what I want to do. After about 5 minutes of it popping up unexpectedly I disabled it (I find force touch a little frustrating on my iPhone 6s+ too but I got used to it). I hate to sound so negative but the whole reason I use Apple products is for the ease of use factor and this trackpad significantly interferes with my ability to get things done.

Wonderful ease of movement around the screen, instant response to movement and gestures and a much easier right click. The main improvement is the design which has made the trackpad stable and as a consequence easier to use. Even my youngest child noticed how much better Magic Trackpad 2 is and has stopped wanting to use a mouse. One more thing the connectivity with a lightening cable is just a fantastic tool to start up.

Having said that I've never been able to use a standard Apple mouse for design work either. The Trackpad Preferences settings BADLY needs a "Scroll Speed" adjustment setting, as there is none. If you're on a 27" iMac it takes multiple swipes to slowly scroll through a long web page, for example. Currently I'm using both the Trackpad and Expert Mouse for different applications, just takes up more desk space.

      Track over mice anyday!

So much easier, so much prettier, so much more comfortable, and so much more productive. Fantastic device that has set the bar in tools other one's hands and fingers and the humble keyboard. My Apple mouse is sadly, but happily retired...

      More useful than I thought

I thought I would use the track pad for casual computer use and then use my mouse for games and more intensive computer work. Well, I've found that I rarely use the mouse now (only easier for one or two games) and I use the track pad as my primary form of navigation on my iMac. The only thing that can be difficult, stated in early posts, is the click and drag, but really, I haven't had that hard of a time using it. It has made up for that fault in ease of use in almost every other area. Mechanically, the device seems to be going strong, connects fine, and holds a good charge (Only charged it twice over 3 months with near daily use). I would recommend this.
