      Stupid AND great

      This mouse is brilliant but designed by an idiot (or team of idiots). The feel of the mouse, the functionality, the build quality are all class-leading... but w This mouse is brilliant but designed by an idiot (or team of idiots). The feel of the mouse, the functionality, the build quality are all class-leading... but who in the world thought that sticking the charging port on the base of the mouse was a good idea?! And not allowing the mouse to be used whilst being charged? Seriously?! WHY? What a stupid thing to do Apple. What does someone do when they're working and their mouse runs out? Am I expected to buy two of these things??? Aargh. Here's a solution, Apple... what if the mouse could become a wired mouse whilst charging? Stick the port in the front-end of the mouse and have it work whilst charging so I don't have to use my laptops trackpad for intricate design work.

      Is someone paying irrational, cantankerous antagonists to write one-star reviews? Anything they don't love is automatically "the worst thing ever!" All of these Is someone paying irrational, cantankerous antagonists to write one-star reviews? Anything they don't love is automatically "the worst thing ever!" All of these extremely low reviews are incredible... as in "not even remotely credible." This mouse looks and feels like the last one - only a little lighter. Ergonomics, weight, appearance, functionality... all great things, and all much better than your average third-party product. The mouse plugs in to charge... and this is somehow horrible? Upside-down is a bit weird and you don't use it while it is charging. How does that make this a one-star product? Don't you ever sleep? Can't you remember to plug your mouse in overnight once a month? This is way better than having to change the batteries every two weeks. Do you gripe about your phone because you have to put it down once in a while to charge it? So it doesn't work with some of the older system software? Well in most cases, neither should you. How does that make this product abysmal? Your wrist hurts? That is not the mouse's fault. Operator error does not make a product atrocious any more than a drunk driver makes a a particular brand of car a hazard to drive. This mouse is a great product. An improvement over the already-good last version. Would I prefer a third party mouse over this one? No thanks. I'll give my five stars right here without apology.

      Magic Mouse 2 vs Magic Mouse 1

      WeI have two iMac's and the newer one has MM2. I find it smoother and even more comfortable to use than the MM1, and the built in battery lasts longer than the WeI have two iMac's and the newer one has MM2. I find it smoother and even more comfortable to use than the MM1, and the built in battery lasts longer than the rechargeable batteries I use in MM1. The main thing for me though is that the MM2 retains a solid bluetooth connection to whichever machine I am using on, whereas the MM1 has always been prone to disconnecting or taking a while to connect. The fact that you cannot use the mouse while it is charging did worry me slightly at first, but, as I assume the the battery does not suffer from reduced capacity due to 'memory' problems, one can just keep an eye on it and recharge it well before it gets too low for a days use. Perhaps put a monthly reminder in the Calendar.

      Apple mouse feels good and responds well to various touch inputs. Try to change the batteries? Good luck. The mouse has a poor design to remove the cover. Breaks off my finger nails - just about threw the device against a nice sold concrete block wall. Otherwise, it's average.

      Prioritizes good looks over usability

      Pros/Cons Overview: Pros: - Gesture Functionality - Battery Life - Good looks Cons: - Lack of comfort - Bad usability - Charging port location W Pros/Cons Overview: Pros: - Gesture Functionality - Battery Life - Good looks Cons: - Lack of comfort - Bad usability - Charging port location What keeps this mouse from receiving even an average score for me, is not the charging port location alone (which is sensible criticism for many people here) but something much more fundamental: Its disappointing lack of comfort and usability. Let me explain: Comfort: I have below average sized male hands (2-inch thumb and 2.5" inch pinky), and still find myself feeling uncomfortable as my right hand tries to grip the sides of the mouse to move it. It just doesn't feel good, and resembles the awkward feeling you get when you try to grip a miniature-sized pen to write with. I can only imagine what it would be like for someone with bigger hands. Makes me wonder what human species type this was designed for. Usability: I use a mousepad that is a bit gripper than others, and creates more friction than other surfaces such as wood or regular plastic, so a bit of an extra effort to move the mouse around is expected. Alas, this particular mouse has a very serious problem with friction and is what completely breaks the experience for me. To be sure, I've tried two other mice, a Microsoft one and a Logitech one, and neither had the same problem with maneuvering. In fact, they slid almost effortlessly. Overall, I appreciate the effort and thoughtfulness that Apple puts into 99% of their products, but this mouse constitutes the 1% that begs for drastic improvements. Buyers, beware of the potential discomfort from medium to long computer use, and be mindful of the surface you will be using this on (glass doesn't work at all). Apple engineers, please rethink your priorities and go back to prototyping, hopefully taking into account some of MS and Logitech's ergonomics as your baseline to your designs. I hope you don't repeat the same mistakes with Magic Mouse 3.

Surely Apple has a reason for making charging a nightmare when you have quick deadlines to work to and have to switch to a wacom to get work done. Worst functionality ever.
