I would like to use it with both a Macbook Pro and a Windows computer, do I need special drivers to do so?

Depends. You can format in Mac HD format and use it with a Windows machine if you install MacDrive software on the PC - it will allow you to read and write the Mac drive from the PC. Search for the MacDrive software - i have used it in the past and it was seamless.

You can reformat the drive to a PC file format like NTFS (and use special rivers on the Mac that read/write NTFS) or exFAT which both can read/write (you can convert either format with a Windows PC). Alternatively you can install an HFS+ format driver on your PC so that it can read Mac formatted drives like those made by G-Tech. Note that reformatting erases all data, so if you do that, back up to another drive first. Note also if you want to use a drive as a TimeMachine backup it has to be HFS+ format.
