will microsoft office 2007 run on imac?

The last three version of MS Office for Mac are 2004, 2008 and 2011. Office 2007 is a Windows version, and it won't work on a Mac. Unless you install Windows OS on a Mac under "Boot Camp" or "Parallels Desktop". Then you can install Office 2007 in your Windows OS which reside in your iMac.
Software to buy to get started:
1. Parallels Desktop (better than Boot Camp, but Boot Camp is free)
2. Windows XP or Vista or 7
3. Office 2007
But I recommend you to get:
1. Office for mac 2011
that's all... its cheaper.

no,but there are versions of Office for Mac that look like and are completely comparable.
I use Office for Mac 2011, Office 2007 (PC) and Office 2010 (PC).
The only things I miss are Access and Publisher (actually I don't miss Publisher, but I really miss Access, so I use BootCamp)

No. There is micorsoft word on pc, and on mac. They are separate versions. You will have to buy microsoft office for mac

Yes, I believe so with office Mac. Office Mac is the Mac Version of Microsoft office. I have office Mac 2010 but I'm pretty sure there is a 07' version.
