For it to be medical grade, it would be required for it to have alarms in the event of readings indicating a dangerous condition. This device has the same sensors as the medical grade Masimo SET healthcare devices. If you have the app open, it will actually chime if the readings indicate a problem. But if you shut off the app, you’re shutting off any alarm too. I have one of these, and the information in the manual says 2% margin for SpO2 and 3bpm for heart rate.
