    Best Mobile Hard Drive Ever

Best for the long videos and big downloads that could take 1-2 gb off your computer and all that big software that is 10-15 gb. Best for those who need more storage

Not sure why there are so many fake reviews on here...

I don't know whether it's the competition being petty or what, but there are so many fake reviews for this product.

I bought it this month and it works perfectly fine, doesn't crash, nice and light. And for all these fake reviews saying people are slicing their fingers using this drive - please. The design is beautiful, the edges are smooth, and you would have to be the world's biggest berk to find a way to cut yourself. I mean, part of me wants to believe there are a bunch of customers out there, furiously typing away with their nubs, that were once fingers; and retelling the horrors they faced while using this product. But alas, it's just too far beyond ridiculous for me to even dream that up. So I'll move on.

I've had six LaCie drives over the last 10 years, all for different reasons, and all are still in perfect working condition. Great brand, industry leader in my opinion, and a great product.

Also, if you are looking for other honest reviews of this product, just do a simple google search and you'll find plenty. Or just check out any reputable tech review site (CNET, etc.). Cheers!

I Saved my whole life on this device and it started failing after just 2 days.

Basically it does not turn on again. You have to tweak the cables a bit. And after one hour of trying to play with them you might get a chance to have it ON for a couples of seconds.

What a bad quality and why would APPLE sell someone else's bad quality?

I'm surprised of all the negative reviews.

I bought two 4TB in Dec 2016 because I liked it so much.

It is very quite. The platter is centred so it hardly vibrates. I bought other WD ones at the time and they vibrated a lot and returned them.

They never have shown any problems or failures like people mentioned here. Maybe the later ones are bad, or it is not meant to be carried.

I am seeing 110Mb/s for transfer tests, which I think plenty faster than other 3.0 external drives (60mb/s) I have.

I do agree with the sharpness on the edges as they kind of seem a bit dangerous. My drives has been just on my desk 100% of the time, so I do not have the issue.

It looks awesome to look at compared to other portable drives I have.

Small in size, large in capacity & eligible.

I love this drive - it sits behind my iMac on a backpack rack. No issues.

Sharp edges slice fingers - do not buy

This thing is a finger slicer. Especially when you reach down deep into your backpack to grab something. I’ve cut myself twice in the last two days. They’re annoying papercuts that bleed enough to get blood all over whatever you grab before realizing your bleeding, I’m going to put some scotch 35 vinyl tape over the edges now for safety so so much for the sleek design. Hard to believe the design engineers let this thing go to production!

    So bad ...

I have many LaCie drives as backups, extra disks etc that are still working after many years.

This drive failed after a couple of weeks - no warning 4TB of data not backed up for > 1 week.
Come on LaCie - why the disparity??

Had the drive for more than 14 days (not many) so now have to go through the laborious process of getting a refund.
    Sad day

Brought this product 8 months ago and it broke, started beeping, IT couldn't fix it and. Now I have lost YEARS worth of valuable memories which I'll never get back. I suggest NOT SELLING THIS PRODUCT ANYMORE APPLE AS ITS MAKING YOU LOOK BAD!

    Failed After Five Days

This 4T drive worked great out of the box, but then it completely failed after five days of desktop use. Lacie has offered to exchange it for a free replacement drive. However, I lost many hours of productivity because of this failure.

    Finger Cutter

Unless you want to dismember yourself reaching into your bag, avoid this drive at all costs. I'm keeping this review short because my other hand is bleeding.

    Drive Failed

After only having this drive for 4 months, it failed. At first I was able to find it in Disk Utility and retrieve some documents but a day later it won't even turn on. Absolutely Dissapointing.

Who designs a portable HD with razor sharp edges???

I glad Porsche doesn't design cars this badly.
First of all, they are bragging about a rectangular aluminum box as being designed???
The only 'design' above a plain box was to put sharp metal edges on the corners so it will scratch up anything that is carried with it in a bag (remember this is a portable drive)
I can't be sure, but I think it scratched my kitchen counter just unpacking it for the first time
I don't want to even have it near my new MacBook- I feel like any contact is apt to leave scratches.
Every time I handle it, I feel like I'm coming away with paper cuts and scratches.
It does function as a hard drive, at least I can say that.
I'm most likely going to return it.

Be cautious when you handle this hard drive

1st, Since this drive use usb-c, I expected speeds are little bit faster than usb3 or hopefully similar to the apple's thunderbolt. However, read/write speeds are not faster than usb2. Very disappointed.

2nd, just like paper cut, I got many times to slice my fingers' skins when handling this drive. such as, while putting it in my backpack and taking this out of my bag. By today, it has happened 5 times. I never imaged this happened by mobile hard drive. The edges of this hard drive are very very sharp. So be careful!!!
I will not purchase this hard drive again for the safety reason.

    Drive Failure

I purchased this drive just under two months ago and have only been actively using it for a month. The drive is showing as unreadable and macOS has failed to repair it. I have never encountered issues this substantial in a new drive before and given the obviously higher than usual price point I expected quality. I am sorry to say I was mistaken.

awesome drive, the only one on the market with most up to date tech

it works well, quite, fast. It comes with 2 cables, one for new USB-C and one for standard USB port.
    it's 4TB, and it's USB Get 3.1 speed. It's stylish.
And that makes it the only drive like that available

Large Down/Uploads can be an issue

With limited battery life and not being able to connect external power when using I find this drive, and only one USB-C port, frustrating.

    Power Issues

Because this drive and the MacBook have only a single USB-C drive, and Apple does not sell a USB-C to 2x USB-C cable or adapter, the drive can only be used directly with the MacBook on battery power, not with external power.

You can connect the drive to a USB-3 & USB-C to USB-C connector (e.g. USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter), then use the connector to connect to external power and the MacBook. Not very elegant.

With these caveats, the drive seems good; nice to have 4 TB for big cameras.
