    pencil falls out

This case will not hold the pencil tightly - it's more of just a resting place for the pencil. I expected to be able to store the pencil there when not in use. Returning.

Great Case but you will lose your Apple Pencil

Great case when paired with a smart cover. The pencil holder that comes with it is a bad design. I haven't had the actual holder come off, but even when fully attached it does a poor job of holding onto the pencil. I used it for about three months and the pencil simply fell out of the grip on numerous occasions. Finally this weekend, my apple pencil fell out somewhere along the way at an airport never to be seen again. This is a five star case if you have no need for an apple pencil and also purchase a smart cover. I will likely buy a new case from a different company along with my replacement apple pencil. The pencil is just too expensive to have such an undependable grip holding it.

Great ipad protection, but you may loose pencil.

The quality was better than I expected. I particularly purchased this case to keep my Apple Pencil attached. 2 months after I had it I realized the holder can unattach, eventually knocking off and becoming looser over time. Sadly I lost my Apple Pencil at a convention this weekend because of this. Still deavastated it’s gone. I always check and stay cautious of it, but this case failed to actually keep the pen holder attached. I understand use over time but I have only had it for 4 months and do not use it daily. I don’t think I should have had to worry about that. My pencil was used for sketching designs for my small business. I will be searching for a better product that does not have a detachment when I can get a replacement.

Feels great but pencil holder snapped off immediately

I love the way the case feels in my hands. Paired with the Apple Smart Cover, I really thought this would be my perfect setup. But the case had not been on my iPad 5 minutes before the pencil holder snapped at one of its connection points.

Annnnnd back to the Apple store I go.

    Design faults

The case looks nice and fits the device well, however I had a couple of issues. The first was that the buttons on the device became unresponsive with the case on, so every time I wanted to use the volume or on/off switch I had to push down hard which doesn't seem right somehow, this should have been picked up in testing and a solution found to make the areas around the buttons more tactile. Secondly, the pencil holder attachment became loose and eventually just started slipping off by itself.

6 months after purchasing it I had to return it to the Apple store for a refund mainly due to the pencil holder problem.

    Terrible! A very disappointed customer!

I ordered this case from apple.com based on the product description on the apple website...the writeup claims bump and drop protection with impact-absorbing BulletShield material...this is absolutely not true! I received the iPad Pro 10.5 for Xmas,,, I dropped my iPad once and now have a screen that is shattered and not useable. Based on my conversation with apple they have a disclaimer on their page that products sold through their website that do not bear the Apple Brand name are serviced and supported exclusively by their manufacturers in accordance with terms and conditions packaged with the products. That being said Apple is off the hook and I'm left with a 2 month old 700$ iPad (that I thought was protected) that is not useable due to sharp glass particles on the shattered screen.
Safeguarding your iPad Pro while keeping its profile sleek and slim as claimed is definitely a false statement. Also noteworthy is that the iPencil holder fell off as well.
I hesitated on writing this review as my family and I have been avid Apple supporters for years and have numerous apple products in our home, however this experience has been so disappointing that I felt a review was warranted in hopes that it will prevent others from making the same mistake. Apple, shame on you for promoting this product! A very disappointed customer!

Okay, but poorly lined up with on/off button.

I received a new 10.5 inch iPad Pro and accessories for Christmas from my husband.

I picked out this case as it seemed the best option for me. The case fits nice and snug, with empty space on left side for application of a hinged magnetic cover. Together the case and cover do their job and protect my new iPad.

My only negative is that I’m finding that I have to repeatedly press the on/off button as the case location for this button isn’t aligned properly. Frustrating!

Wishing Apple would make a combo case with attached cover like I had for my previous iPad:(

    Great

Great protection on the back side and is compatible with the apple keyboard. The only complaint I have is that the apple pen can get knocked out of the pen holder pretty easily. This case is much better than it's competitors tho.

    Pencil Holder is Rubbish

When I bought this case initially I was very happy with it. Nice protective case, functions well with the keyboard, somewhere to hold the pencil. The problem is the pencil holder is a removable attachment, the problem is that to remove the pencil holder attachment that you push down on it and it will unclip from the case, which means eventually every time you are putting the pencil away with the holder attachment is disconnecting itself from the case which has unfortunately resulted in a pencil going missing.
If you're after a functional AND practical case I'd highly recommend the Otterbox case, very very similar but doesn't have this problem.

Beautiful iPad broken bc of Tech 21 Poor Quailty

Have had many problems with iPads in the past as far as the screen breaking. I made many of the classic mistakes. I had purchased the floppy magnetic cover but, only that for protection; would let my 3 year old watch a show on it and; have even learned the hard way that if you leave it in your freezing cold vehicle and bring it into your warm home the screen will break. Finally this year I purchased the 10.5 Pro AND got my daughter her own mini. I was quick to purchase protection for hers, the kids blue and green Tech 21. Although I did not purchase protection for mine immediately, I did buy it as soon as I could. She dropped her mini one day and I watch it bounce off of ceramic tile and not break. I had been trying to decide between the Tech 21 and Otterbox for mine (have had an Otterbox on my phone for over 3 years and my phone screen has never broken - our home has stained concrete floors). Bc of how well the Tech 21 protected my daughters mini I decided to purchase this one for mine. This iPad is always being treated like gold and always only in my hands, no one else. Big crack appeared on my screen a couple days ago and even bigger one today. I have replaced screens in the past with no problem. This happening just feels frustrating bc I took the proper measures to protect this iPad, I unfortunately laid my trust in Tech 21! DO NOT BUY THIS!!! Would give ZERO STARS if I could.

    Quality issues

Purchased an iPad Pro, 10.5, also purchased this case after reading a few reviews and watching a few YouTube vids. Very unhappy with the case. Buttons very stiff, could not get the iPad to shut off nor use the volume buttons for same reason. Quality control at manufacturer level appears to be lacking.
My advice, if considering this case is to bring your iPad with you and fit it on tablet. Try buttons then make decision as to wether to purchase product.

Good option now that Apple has discontinued similar products

This product works. It also fits well and works with Apple’s keyboard cover. Detaching the included pencil holder is more difficult than it should be and the product is a bit expensive for what it is. Overall, a good but not great product.

    Wish I could return it

I started hating it as soon as the pen holder attachment started coming off with the slightest touch. That is extremely annoying and irritating for the price this is being sold for. Not worth it, don’t spend your money on this.

    Removable pencil holder is great

I love the fact that this is light weight, and slim fitting. The fact that the holder for the Apple Pencil is removable is important. With it removed, iPad fits landscape view into my stand as well as the portrait way. The clear case back feels like there is nothing there so is comfortable to hold. Very happy with this purchase.

    iPad Pro on off switch

This is a well-made case and the pencil holder is great but unfortunately it’s almost unusable.
You cannot control the iPads Pro on/off button through the case.
This is a very poor design and is very disappointing it’s not worth £60 if you’re looking for a case I would avoid this one.

    It needs optimisation

For a £60 plastic case I would have expected perfection instead with this case all the 3 buttons of my iPad are unsefull. The only way to use them are with a really unnatural super pression. Really disappointed.

One big flaw - after weeks of using it

I have tried to like this and, in most respects, it's a good case that does the job. The flaw? The on/off switch is so difficult to push through this cover that it has become a painful experience that I dread. I'm going to revert to another one that does not have the pencil holder, unfortunately, but that also works really easily, the way the old Apple silicon ones did. I really tried to make this work, but it's a hassle.

Exactly what I was looking for

I had purchased the Smart Cover, thinking that I wouldn't be taking the iPad out of the house very often—then the iPad Pro became almost indispensable—and I wanted to bring it out with me more often; and have somewhere to stash the Pencil too...

Doesn't add much weight at all, or noticeable weight, or size.. good protection from bumps Or rough surfaces, there is only ONE drawback that I have noticed; when you have the back case on the iPad you are not able to charge the Apple Pencil /That Way/, the bottom port protection stops you from inserting the pencil fully—for me this isn't a dealbreaker, but for some it may be—I have charged the pencil before in this "worst" way a few times ever after the initial pairing.

I'd recommend the Smart Cover + impact Clear Case over the Smart Case as you get a pencil holder and can wear either front protection or back as needed.
