    My adapters last for years

    • Written by Randall S from Sherman

Makes me wonder what people are doing to their Magsafe adapters and cords. Really. I have had several MacBook Pros in last few years and never, ever had any problems with them, their attachments, or cords.

    8 Good Years

    • Written by Sherea J from Philadelphia

I purchased my Macbook Pro in 2011. I've never had to replace the adaptor until today.
Needless to say it's money well spent on a quality item.

    It's good enough

    • Written by Zubaoyi Y from Champaign

I got my laptop in summer 2012 and the charger that came with lasted me until late 2015. I was a bit reluctant to get a new one from apple that cost $80 so I went with off brand stuff on amazon. I went through 2 or 3 of them (about $20-30 per) and each lasted me maybe 3 months. I did my math then and took another chance with the apple charger early 2016. It still works fine even though at one specific place the cable's wearing pretty thin. So I'm going to order another one soon just in case. But yeah, it seems that the apple charger can be pretty consistently depended on for 3 years, which is not bad at all considering my other options.

    Lasted me 6 years

    • Written by Amanda G from Macomb

I bought my MacBook Pro in early 2011 and it lasted me 6 years. I bought one off amazon last spring and now its not working. I agree, $80 is RIDICULOUS but will purchase it because the original charger from Apple lasted me a long time. I hope the next one lasts me just as long.

    This is a steal! :)

    • Written by Morgan M from Kalgoorlie

My MacBook Pro is the non-retina 2012 model and it's now 2018. This charging cable has been absolutely fine, the only fault I've come across "lately" is sometimes it just won't notice it's plugged in at the power brick area and to fix it I simply just pull it out and push it back in. Which isn't a big deal, but when I get around to it I will purchase this for $97.90. People should really take better care of their products, all these 1 star reviews? And $97.90 for 6 years, that's nothing. Good charger, great last-ability.

All this hate for this product seems ? - Not from me.

    • Written by Alistair L from Epsom

Weird all this hate for this product.
Granted the 60W adaptor i have with my macbook is the ORIGINAL from 2010, and not a replacement ...
Perhaps newer ones are made to inferior standards? - Lower quality material to cut costs etc?
Apart from being grubby, the cables, both from the power socket to the adaptor & the mag-safe cable to the macbook, are in perfect condition! - Adaptor itself is doing its job nicely, with zero problems in nearly 8 years now.

Go figure ... But i won't be getting on the hate band waggon, when i personally have had zero issues!
    Five Stars!

Don't listen to all these reviews...Here is the real review

    • Written by Mayur V from Elmwood Park

I brought my MacBook pro 13in non-retina unibody on January 4th, 2013. I've had it for almost 4 years and 6 months now and I'm still using it to this date. I take good CARE of my products. Learn to wrap the cord carefully and to avoid any sharp bends. I wrap my charger in concentric circles keeping the wire straight in two main areas where its most likely to break. The first area is where the wire leaves the powerbox and the second is the L-adapter. Avoid strain here and you won't have any problems. I store my charger in a case meant for a 7 inch tablet. This way, the wire is not exposed to any sharp bends or turns or twists. Do not twist the wire. It's a shame to see such a low rating on apple chargers. They will last for years if you know how to take care of your devices. In other words, my charger works like new and the wire itself is not broken or frayed anywhere. Good day. Cheers to Apple for making quality products.

    Quality Decline

    • Written by Aurora L from Richmond

It seems evident from the reviews that there has been a definite decline in the quality of the chargers - almost every five star review (including mine) is of the original charger that came in the box that has since lasted years with no problems. It's no doubt a different product at this point, or just in general, from what is sold in stores at an outrageous price point. I still have the 60W MagSafe that came with my 2009 15-inch MacBook Pro and only recently started having an issue with cord tearing, and I'm pretty sure it was my fault. Chargers shouldn't have to be babied to last, and I doubt the folks giving one star reviews have been destroying their chargers. Point is, I'd trust the masses on this one, as the rest of us are talking about a product you won't be purchasing.

    Surprised at the negative reviews...

    • Written by Eric H from Vancouver

I have had my MacBook pro 13 in for 7 years and my power adapter is just now going out. I am a bit taken aback by the price of a replacement that fits something as technologically ancient as a 10 year old laptop, however my computer still runs flawlessly. Well worth it if you don't have to keep up with the Jonses (or Kardashians.... ugh). That being said, I have never had an issue with my Mac power adapters until now so (fingers crossed) I will replace it today... I was also surprised at the over 2K negative reviews. This has simply not been my experience. I treat my electronics like the expensive necessities that they are but have also traveled the world (literally) with this computer/power adapter for the last 10 years. Not a single issue. I was also in the "sand box" (for those of you that will identify with that terminology) which is one of the harshest environments for electronics on Earth. I stand behind Apple.

    9 years strong!

    • Written by Ericka J from Benicia

Well I have had my Macbook since 2008! I am looking to get the next model because it is now obsolete. I can't get the latest versions and need more memory! Anywho I haven't ever had to replace my L cord til now. Still charging def no sparking. Just now see some fraying in the cord so will buy a replacement for my backup 2008 MacBook. Glad I didn't have any issues. They are very expensive.

Glad I didn't read these years ago.

My Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter is SIX years old this month. There is a 1/2" crack in the wire cover now that exposes the internal wiring when I bend it at the location. Given the zillion hours of use and abuse, my opinion of this product is very good. With that said I am on my THIRD keyboard that does not make me happy overall.

Still works after 6 years of use

    • Written by Danielle C from Glenside

I still have the original Magsafe Power Adapter from when I bought my mid-2010 13" MacBook new about 6 years ago. Yes, there have been a few problems, occasionally with it, but I was able to solve that with a quick tech support call to apple care. Other than that, it has never failed me, even after years of traveling with my MacBook and taking it back and forth to college. About a year ago, the wire casing (covering the wires) right under the part that plugs into the computer broke, due to my own negligence, I think. To my surprise, even with exposed wires, the Magsafe power adapter is still working perfectly. I have since wrapped it in electric tape and continued using it, I have now decided to replace it, only because I have gotten tired of having to rewrap the cord in electrical tape and because a few of the exposed wires are bent, which makes me think that it has gotten somewhat unsafe to use now. But, the cord and wires have NEVER gotten hot or even warm and my laptop gets used daily.

No issues with adapter after 5 years of use.

    • Written by Ryan C from Tempe

I'm not sure why everyone else seems to have so many problems with this adapter. I've had the same original magsafe adapter that came with my MacBook that I purchased back in early 2012 and I've had zero issues with it. It's always charged my device just fine, and the wires are not exposed or tearing at all. Common sense, if you throw the adapter around and are careless with it, it's not going to last as long.

I've been reading the reviews and i dont understand how everyones chargers are always breaking. I've had my charger for almost 4 years now and its still in perfect condition. As long as you take care of your electronics you should have no problems with this product. Im very satisfied with this product and would highly recommend it.

I've had them for years with no issues

    • Written by Lauren B from Peabody

I'm writing this because of all the negative reviews. I've had my computer for a little over 4 years and no problems with the computer or adapter. I had the same adapter for my 2008 MacBook and the only reason it's not working now is my then puppy got to it when I wasn't looking (and even considering he bit down to the wire, it still worked most of the time for months). I'm always careful with my electronics (puppy notwithstanding) but I don't think you should have a problem with this item if you're reasonably careful.

    Just fine

    • Written by Elizabeth S from Woodstock

I've never had a moment's trouble from this charger in the past six years until my cats got ahold of it and chewed it to pieces. There is something in the white cable that attracts them...some chemical or smell. They don't chew any black cables, just white ones. Expensive cats. They should get a job.

    I love it!

    • Written by Justin P from Oshawa

I've had my Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro for about two years now, and I absolutely love the MagSafe 2 connector. It's super convenient and has saved my rMBP from a fall more than once. I don't understand everyone complaining about the build quality, I've had mine for two years and I haven't had any issues, and it's not breaking whatsoever. People must just be very irresponsible with their cables. I treat mine normally and it's in nearly perfect condition.
