    Replacing for the 2nd time

    • Written by Anonymous A from 7177

This thing is WAY to expensive for how poory it is made. I thought I had been a little rough on the first one, so I took the blame. So I was super careful with the 2nd one. Yeah. It broke too. This is too expensive for how poorly it is made.

Better design, but still more problems.

    • Written by Anonymous A from 8579

I had my old magsafe (the one that stuck out of the laptop) replaced with this free of charge under warranty.

The design of this is much sturdier and the magnet portion, being metal now, is much better.

There are still some problems though. If you want to sit your mac sort of flush up against a wall or have it on a lecture, so you need to spin the magnet portion around, but still require the ethernet, the firewire or the mini display port, then you're out of luck. also. try tugging the cord from behind or tugging it up away from the floor/desk. it will not come out because of the new design. the only way to make it come out is to pull to the left. The point of the magnet is so that if tripped over or caught on something whilst carrying your laptop, it will come out easily and not risk damage to either of the units.

Better, but they still need to rethink some things.

    I am new to MAC.
I got the macbook pro in October. I love it.
However, I HATE the wall adapter.
It is way too heavy, big and bulky.
I don't get it. What was mac thinking? Pretty, like some people have said. Who cares? It is a wall charger.
I would much rather have an ugly charger that is small, than this big clunky thing.
And, hearing how so many people have had trouble with it, I Hope to not be one of them. $80 FOR A CHARGER?!?! ( I Wish MAC stuff was more reasonably priced. )

On that note, I do like the magnetic attachment to the computer. I did trip of the cord once and it disconnected and the laptop did not go crashing to the floor.

    Low-point of the Mac line

    • Written by Joshua Z from Toronto

The charger is probably the weakest link in the Mac chain. They break constantly. They overheat to dangerous levels. They frequently tear at the end. They are designed in such a way that a rip in the end cord - not affecting the main charger - requires full replacement for $80. When buying a Mac, it's important to remember that over its lifetime you will have to spend $160-320 on new chargers.

After 3 replacements in 3 years, it's safe to say next computer will be a PC

    Horrible Quality

    • Written by Pete B from Wellsville

I cannot believe how poorly this power adapter is made, I have not had my MacBook Pro for 8 months yet and my second adapter is already failing. Apple replaced the first one for free, but I'm not so sure they'll be willing to replace this one as it's only been three or four months since it was replaced. Though, they have to see that this adapter has a horrible rating...and there's a reason for it. I love everything else about my MB, but this adapter is just horrible. If I had to pay $80 every several months for a new adapter I would be furious.

    Magnetic part comes off

    • Written by Anonymous A from 3517

I've had my 13inch MBP for about 4 months and the magnetic part of the magsafe charger comes off, it's smaller than the hole so it moves inside and it doesn't connect properly to the computer.
The magnetic bit is so strong that doesn't come off if you trip on the cable :/
    Please improve the desing Apple!

    Dear Apple

    • Written by Anna S from Sierra Vista

I want to love you. I really, really do. You're making it difficult though.

I couldn't blame you when my old, T-style power adapter broke after a couple years. I was even excited when I saw the sleek, new, redesigned L-style. However, that one broke too- but this time, it was after only about two months. I tried not to take it out on you, and figured that maybe I got the one bad one in the batch, or that maybe I had been too rough with it. But here I am, typing away, pausing occasionally to wiggle the cord in order to get it to work again- for a few seconds at least. Yes, thats right, my SECOND L-style magsafe has broken, also after only a couple months.

Finally, I'm realizing that it's not me, it's YOU. And you just don't seem to realize that. I called Apple support only to be told that there are "no known issues" with the L-style magsafe adapter. Oh really? Dearest apple, do you ever read the reviews your products receive? Obviously there is a known issue, and its that this product simply doesn't work if you use it for more than a month!

I've enjoyed your sleek design and better usability, but honestly, I think I'm leaving you. For a PC.

Ok, but the last one is better

    • Written by Anonymous A from 4622

I own the black MacBook, purchased in April 2008. The power cord just died, so I bought this one. It works OK most of the time, but doesn't quite fit right. The magnetic part of the original one (the slightly larger white one, with the block and cord coming of perpendicularly) fit securely, and this one seems a little smaller for the hole, and slides around. The magnet does hold tight, but sometimes the little gold pieces on the inside don't meet up, so even when it's attached, it's not charging. Not horrible, but just not quite right for my computer :-(. Oh well! Hopefully, it'll be time for a new computer before too long anyways!!

paid a grand for my macbook pro, brilliant idea of it being 'MagSafe' so your laptop dont go flying should you trip over your wire. sadly only 5 months down the line my charger suddenly faults where i have to wiggle it to get it to charge, the following night stops working altogether.

im off to a apple store this weekend to see if they replace it. i will lose a lot of faith in apple having this so called "wonderful customer support" if i have to pay £50 for a new one.
    fingers crossed eh?

    If I'm honest, pretty poor.

    • Written by Kate D from Warminster

I own the newest white MacBook, and have done so since around June. At first I thought the charger was odd, as it was different from my friends' older T-shaped ones, but I got used to it. Over the past few days, only having had the product for around 6 months, the magnetic end which connects directly into my laptop has burnt out, to the extent that I cannot use it any longer. The plastic inside has melted and rusted around the prongs. I am, to say the least, exceedingly disappointed.

    Breaks Easy

    • Written by Anonymous A from 5023

Made poorly. Owned my MACBOOK for about eight months than it started to give me problems charging "on and off" for about 2 -3 weeks before It stopped charging completely. The tip fell off while examining the cord. Got a new one, but feel apple should revisit the problem. Like the magnetic feature but feel quality and construction is still lacking.

I am appalled at apple. I got my macbook pro this past summer, and it came with the new "magsafe" charger. at first I thought it was much better-looking and sleeker than the old white charger, but I now regret praising it. After a mere 5 months, the charger started acting up. I would have to fidget with it and unplug and replug until the little orange light showed up. Then, of course, the slightest shift of the computer caused it to stop charging or reset itself. It was so annoying! Not to mention my macbook has fallend from my bed a total of THREE times because I or someone else have tripped over the cord, bringing my entire life in a computer crashing down. Now, 6 months after purchasing, my charger has completely stopped working, and I've been using my roommate's old charger for the time being. There should be a recall on these chargers. I just want one that works and lasts; I don't care how it looks!!!

First the hard drive and now my Apple 60W Magsafe Power Adapter...broken

    • Written by Anonymous A from 2993

In May/June 2010 my 13" 2007 Macbook hard drive died but I did get a replacement due to an issue with some hard drives for that year. Dec 2010 the wire casing on my original 60W Magsafe Power Adapter suddenly separated leaving the wire(s) exposed not by the magnetic end but at the other end by the adapter box. I am always careful with my Macbook and never handle it roughly. I also never leave the power adapter lying around after using it and never pull on the cord, so I am extremely surprised that the casing should come apart. I have taped it with electrical tape, but it will not work. Also, the adapter would get extremely hot. I cannot use my Mac until I can afford another power adapter. I don't have enough space to explain the issue I had with the replacement hard drive....all I can say is I like Apple but it's just too expensive.

    This is a dud

    • Written by Anonymous A from 4483

I have had to replace the power cord from the original T cord because it wouldn't charge at all and now the new charger is stuffing up after 6 months. It gets really hot and I have been burnt by the connector. It only charges when i twist and position the cord on different angles. Worked great to start but hopeless now. I got an exchange with the first one but they were trying hard to blame it on me. Now I have no chance of getting a new one as warranty has run out. POOR DESIGN.

Poorly thought out redesign of a good product.

    • Written by Anonymous A from 2989

This new design sacrificed function for the sale of a pretty design. The prior version would break away when the cord was tugged from any direction. With this new, pretty (useless!) design if the cord is tugged straight away from the computer the magnetic end locks into the attachment port and your valuable laptop winds up on the floor. If you are looking for a replacement go to eBay and find a good used version of the old version and you will be much happier. Do the apple design people read these comments? If so, then my advice is to think about function a bit more and pretty a bit less.

I purchased this product as a replacement for the standard "t" adapter, and for about 2 weeks it worked splendidly. Then it stopped working unless I had maneuvered it into just the right position, until finally it stopped working altogether. It's a horrid piece of work if it breaks after 2 weeks. The old T adapter served me well until it overheated and died, perhaps Apple should let a third party take care of their chargers, since they're obviously grossly incompetent.

    Bad design, breaks down

    • Written by Anonymous A from 4807

I find it hard to have the charger connect into the computer. It falls out easily, and can block ports if it's oriented the wrong way.

This is the third charger I'm on, and I had to buy a backup in case this one breaks down. I don't trust it.

Poor design in general, and then there is a flaw somewhere in the wiring--I kept burning through them!
