    Power cord is bad design

    • Written by Ed S from Winston Salem

My second cord for my mid 2012 computer just died - after less than a year. The end design is just not good. The rubber coating is weak and breaks, as does the wiring inside. And for $80, it should be EXCELLENT; instead it is POOR.

Terrible quality! I've only had mine for TWO MONTHS and the insulation is already fraying! I was very gentle with it too! What an expensive piece of garbage!

Don't listen to all these reviews...Here is the real review

    • Written by Mayur V from Elmwood Park

I brought my MacBook pro 13in non-retina unibody on January 4th, 2013. I've had it for almost 4 years and 6 months now and I'm still using it to this date. I take good CARE of my products. Learn to wrap the cord carefully and to avoid any sharp bends. I wrap my charger in concentric circles keeping the wire straight in two main areas where its most likely to break. The first area is where the wire leaves the powerbox and the second is the L-adapter. Avoid strain here and you won't have any problems. I store my charger in a case meant for a 7 inch tablet. This way, the wire is not exposed to any sharp bends or turns or twists. Do not twist the wire. It's a shame to see such a low rating on apple chargers. They will last for years if you know how to take care of your devices. In other words, my charger works like new and the wire itself is not broken or frayed anywhere. Good day. Cheers to Apple for making quality products.

Too expensive for how often it breaks

    • Written by Emily P from Alden

I have gone through three chargers since I've gotten my MacBook. I am not even being rough when using it so I know it is because of the poor quality. This last charger barely lasted a year. If you are going to make your product $80 then you might want to make it higher quality. The struggle with the charger makes me want to go to a different computer brand completely since if I had a problem with a charger I wouldn't have to do such an expensive fix. I wish there was another cheaper option for a MacBook charger that was offbrand because then I wouldn't care so much if I spent less on some that broke about every year. I typically love my Apple products but this is ridiculous. This needs to be fixed.

    Not durable at all

    • Written by Melissa O from Beaverton

I've gone through two chargers already, almost onto my third. The adapter cord frays way too easily. I'm so annoyed by it - it's making me not want to purchase another Macbook when it's time replace this one, which is soon. As much as I love my Mac, it's not worth having to pay $80 every year for a new charger...

    Poor design, doesn't last

    • Written by Miriam C from Perth

I have just had to buy my second replacement power adapter, after I finally decided it's unsustainable to keep using a charger with electrician's tape wrapped around the exposed wires (the cord broke maybe 6 months to a year ago). It's clearly a well-known design flaw that the cords break where they are connected to the power block, which is what happened to me in both cases. At over $100AUD for a power adaptor, I'm very irritated at having to fork out twice now in five years of owning my laptop. Unacceptable.

    So bad

    • Written by Annelise V

First one blew up while it was still under warranty and luckily got it replaced. Other than it not being long lasting the design is terrible. The USB keeps popping out of the laptop when I move my laptop in the slightest. The cord is made of bad material which gets stuck on everything and twists too easily. Laptop fell while it was connected to the USB charger so the annoying popping out USB doesnt even work. The laptop seems good but the charger cord is the worst.

    worst adaptors

    • Written by Alexandre M from Hoboken

This is my 3rd adapter, I've wasted so much money on these I'm considering moving away from Apple altogether.
This company is not what it used to be, seems quality is no longer a priority.
At so much money, these adaptors should not fall apart so quickly

    Absolute Garbage

    • Written by Melissa M from North Babylon

For the astronomical price I pay for this, I would hope it can at least last the year. Every non-Apply laptop I've had in the past has a sturdy laptop power adapter that leasts years, this is unacceptable.

You could have burnt my house down.

    • Written by Στέφανος Π from Λάρισα

I was a happy customer. After sixteen months of purchase (MBP 9,2), and after upholding every single one of your use instructions, (level surface, no obstructions of air flow etc) my charger burnt out.
A couple of weeks before that, my HDD flex cable failed so I now have reason to believe that those two massive failures are connected.
Tomorrow morning, I'm calling my local distributor (Greece) and I'm demanding that you hold your end of your EU two year statutory warranty.

    Thanks, Apple.

Decided to buy a non Apple charger

    • Written by maureen G from London

My 5th Apple charger for my macbook air has just given up the ghost after 13 months - working this out I could almost have bought a new laptop - maybe that is Apple's ploy

So fed up - now going to try a non-Apple charger - if that lasts as long and is half the price it will be the way forward

At least 8 years of terrible build quality - when will apple take note?

Charger has broken after 14 months use. Charger for an old MacBook did the exact same thing. Why has the quality not improved, especially with such consistently awful feedback.

    Adapter does not last

    • Written by Tyler N from Coos Bay

I've only had my Macbook Pro for about a year and the power adapter already went out. The part that plugs into the computer separated from the cord and because it's magnetized, it's stuck in there. When I try to plug the cord back in, I get a shower of sparks. Very displeased with this product.

    Quality Decline

    • Written by Aurora L from Richmond

It seems evident from the reviews that there has been a definite decline in the quality of the chargers - almost every five star review (including mine) is of the original charger that came in the box that has since lasted years with no problems. It's no doubt a different product at this point, or just in general, from what is sold in stores at an outrageous price point. I still have the 60W MagSafe that came with my 2009 15-inch MacBook Pro and only recently started having an issue with cord tearing, and I'm pretty sure it was my fault. Chargers shouldn't have to be babied to last, and I doubt the folks giving one star reviews have been destroying their chargers. Point is, I'd trust the masses on this one, as the rest of us are talking about a product you won't be purchasing.

This is now my fourth charger I've had to buy within three and a half years. FOURTH. At $80 a piece, you would think Apple would resign their cords so that they literally do not snap off and fray one month after I buy it!!! Why Apple probably is aware of these issues and hasn't don't anything about it is perplexing. If you're going to portray yourself as being so high-tech and high quality, then make your dang expensive chargers worth the money spent on them.

Apple Prides Itself on Design and Quality & This is Junk

    • Written by Cally I from Bedminster

Disgusted with Apple. I've been through three chargers. They constantly break. Customer service representatives have bounced me around. I'm very unsatisfied and unhappy with Apple at the moment. The product either breaks completely, starts to fray, or the plastic comes off.

    Absolutely useless

    • Written by Megan W from South Shields

I am disgusted at the price of this charger compared to the durability. I have had this charger for a grand total of two months and it has completely broken. For weeks the charger has been going off with the slightest bit of movement and now it is totally unresponsive. I am dumbfounded at the fact that these £80 chargers are our only options and they are lasting no more than two to three months. Classic Apple charging absurd prices for sub-standard products.
