Accessory Not supported by this iPhone

    • Written by Randy A from Marshall

Don't waste your money apparently Apple in their infinite greedy wisdom has programmed support for this adaptor out of IOS programming since iOS 8.0 I have this adaptor (model A1422) and iPhone 4s. But get the This accessory is not supported by this iPhone message when I try to use it. NOT COOL APPLE. I will be sure to keep this in mind on all future purchases.

This is unacceptable, I paid too much money for the simple ability to send a signal through an adaptor and it can not do that. It never worked once with my iphone 4s at ios8. The way that apple promotes "planned obsolescence" by making their old devices incapable of performing actions -once a new device comes out- to force consumers to buy the newer more expensive devices is deceitful towards its customers and environmentally dangerous (because useless consumer electronics end up contributing to long term e-waste). I would much rather have the galaxy note 2 or a google phone, they are simply better, more advanced phones at a cheaper price. Of course, if you're a slave to trends like some teenage girl I understand why it's so hard to make the obvious choice of abandoning a company that falls behind it's competitors and treats its consumers like children as it sells them devices with time limits to fail, when a device like an iphone should be able to last for decades.

    Terrible Product

    • Written by Dana R from Vernon

Bought a genuine Apple AV Adapter. Should be gold plated for the price. It works sparotically sometimes. No audio, no picture, no nothing periodically. I've spent more time rebooting the darned system than watching Net Flix which is why it was purchased. Fiddle with it, and finally when I do get a picture, and put the phone down, beside the TV, it quits. Start all over again. This is ludicrous! Thanks Apple for a product that is inferior.

Does not work with iPad 3 on iOS 9

    • Written by Wesley W from Milton Keynes

Bought one of these to output my iPad 3 screen to the TV, but it doesn't work. When plugging in the adapter to the iPad I'm informed it is incompatible. Considering other reviews here, I can only assume this is due to running iOS 9. It seems strange that Apple can get way with continuing to sell an adapter that is incompatible with certain hardware/software combinations and not informing prospective customers.

Five Star or One Star, iOS version dependent, watch out!

    • Written by Andy M from Ferryhill

Have been using one of these for a few years with an older iPad (the first retina display model) flawlessly, until I did an update over Christmas '15 that moved it beyond iOS 8 to 9.x. Then I was shocked to find it intermittently stop/starts working. As there is no way to roll back the OS to fully functioning, now I'm left with a frustrating routine of plugging/unplugging until it works. I've done a little experimenting with a couple of iPhone 4S's and it works well with the 64Gb iPhone on iOS 9.0, yet does not work at all on a16Gb iPhone 4s with either of the currently signed versions of iOS 9.2. So, thanks for that Apple.

I've a good half dozen, well engineered and functioning older apple products that apple seem intent on crippling - obviously some bug has been introduced but will it ever be sorted? Should come with a warning along those lines. If you've an older iOS 7-8-9.0, this is a great product.

Just picked up the adaptor and an HDMI cable from the local Apple Store. Plugged it in and selected AV on the TV and hey presto, works perfectly. I have an iPad 3 and OS 8.3. I am very pleased as was a little apprehensive in view of some of the negative reviews.

    Worst update ever

    • Written by sandra M from PERTH

I updated ipad 2 to ios8. As with many others my hd I to iPad does not work anymore. I rent movies from iTunes and use adapter so family can also watch. Not any more. I have Apple TV it is very unreliable stopping many times while watching. We don't have a video shop nearby so using adapter is our only entertainment. I feel like throwing my iPad in bin. But am pensioner and can't buy android tablet. Oh well back to books till APPLE FIX THE PROBLEM. How many people think they did it deliberately. It certainly looks like it because they appear in no hurry to fix it.

This adaptor no longer functions since iOS8 upgrade

Questionable business ethics. Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence in industrial design is a policy of planning or designing a product with an artificially limited useful life, so it will become obsolete, that is, unfashionable or no longer functional after a certain period of time.

    Another ios8 disaster!!!

    • Written by Terry G from Salamander Bay

Worked perfectly with my ipad 2 for months. The first time I tried to use it after installing ios8 - "this device is not supported". Android is starting to look very good!. Rate the product? There is no option to award it zero stars - hence 1 star.

I am an AV tech of twenty years experience.
    I work for a university.
We bought some of these for our academics to present lectures from their iPads.

We will not be rolling this out.
After 2 hours of various tests on two cables we have not seen any output.

    Works perfectly!!!

    • Written by jaikumar D from singapore

Works perfectly well with iPhone 4S and ios 6.1. Remember to buy the cable from apple store or apple product resellers. It comes with a 1 year warranty. Those products that doesn't come with a box and an apple logo might have problems, I guess. It is sold for a standard price. Other cables that you get for a cheaper price might have problems, I guess.

    IOS 6 Incompatible

    • Written by Adrian A from Melbourne

Is it incompetence or arrogance from Apple which allows them to release IOS 6, and then suddenly I find that having upgraded, the cable I bought previously and cost $45 (and probably cost Apple $3 to produce, but that's another story) now says that it is incompatible? I used to rate the device highly.
Should there not at least be a warning on the front screen of both my Ipad and my Iphone 4S at the time it was prompting me to do an upgrade to the effect that "Some of your Devices will not be compatible if you proceed with this upgrade"
I personally have invested heavily in setting up to do presentations from my Ipad, only to find that I may have to redesign the course presentation mode.
My challenge to Apple is FIX IT - and soon. This is not good enough. I don't care if it's a system upgrade that is produced, or a replacement cable they make that you can take your existing one in and swap for nothing. The point is that this represents abysmal treatment of customers, and if it remains unresolved, it will be a true indication in my mind that Apple simply doesn't care. I await a response.

Works absolutely perfect. Excellent for iPad 3 with iOS6

    • Written by Jaime N from dayton

I have an iPad 64GB Wifi + 3g with iOS6. I have been watch and download lots of videos through TED, Funshion and Sohu and needed a way to play the videos directly off TV. I took a lot time leading all kinds of reviews and was at first put off by the fact that the adapter did not work with iOS6. I was also concerned if the video would work with apps like TED which play the video in app instead through Apple's video player. After much consideration, I chose to order from Apple (even though ebay was offering alternative for cheaper). I had to be sure and the fact that I can get a refund if it did not work. I also make sure I went to an electronic store to get a proper HDMI cable and not off the web knock off sub cable.

IT WORKS! WORKS PERFECTLY if I might add. Everything mirrors perfect. The in-app videos works. I tested with Noteshelf, SugarSync, Paper, TED, Funshion, Sohu, Trello, Unstuck, and even games like Warriors2 and etc. They all mirrored perfectly. Ther was a slight delay moving from notes to notes in notshelf but noting more. Videos that play off iPad Video player would play on TV but not on iPad. I had one off sync issue where I wait 3 seconds but the video did not show. I close that, relaunch another video and go back and it is fine. So far, I have had it for 2 days and love it!
