Great product, rarely falls off on me. You are all a bunch of whiny complainers. Go use a PC.

I have been a user of Apple products since the 1990s. The design of this cable is FLAWED. As with almost all other reviews written by customers, I found the insulation substandard. I keep the cord in the SAME place and do not even disengage it very often and yet it's frayed and just stopped working (I assume because of the risk of electric shock!).

I have no issue with the magnet and the ease with which it disengages, if pulled. That's good. BUT why is the sheath around the wires so substandard? I never had problems with the previous cable durability. What is going on with Apple? It's not as if the company is fiscally strapped and can't afford to design and manufacture a descent product. FIX THIS PROBLEM! And give loyal Apple customers a good deal on a better cable when it becomes available.

This charger keeps overheating. One time, it actually got so hot it the plugs melted and bent to the side (becauae the power brick itself is really heavy). Now, my charger wont charge anymore (it has only been a 1 year and 7 months since purchase). Disheartening.

    Great Product and Excellent Design

    • Written by Kevin P from manchester

The vast majority of individuals giving this product a poor review are not using it as intended! I went to the apple store to pick up a new one today because mine has gone missing.

I do not know how many times with my previous laptops that if someone were to trip over the cable, the laptop would come crashing down! With this MagSafe 2 PA, theres no need to worry about something like that. My MacBook is now 5 years old and my cable was in great shape!

To avoid the issues individuals post, just avoid wrapping it into a tight ball or yanking excessively hard hundreds of times. You should never do these things with any cable or cord from anywhere. Oddly, it won't break if you treat it like it is a cable/cord and not like it is rope.

    Common sense :)

One of the worst Apple products

    • Written by Ivan B from Kyiv

I do not actually understand why is so BAD. They can make it much more repairable by letting all two cables be detachable. Praise Jesus for USB type C charging on newer macs!

    Very poor quality

    • Written by Charles D from Southampton

The design and quality of this product is very poor. It overheats and the cable frays, even with careful use. To make matters worse, it is ridiculously expensive. Does little to promote the image of Apple products.

I have now gone through two cords in the past 3 years! For some reason if it gets nudged, but DOESN'T disconnect, the wire grounds into the laptop and the cord starts MELTING!!!!! Buying my third cord now, but I am so over it! Why doesn't Apple come up with a replacement cord that isn't a piece of dog ****?

    Bad design

    • Written by Robert Q. A from Fayetteville

The connection to the computer, called a T-shape, is worse than the old L-shape style. It sticks out too far. My wife and I have the same computer, and for both of us, where we charge the computer is limited in width. The T-shape adds several inches to that width, and the less width one has, the more the cord has to be bent to accommodate it, thereby increasing the chance for cord damage.

    Terrible adapter

    • Written by Kirsten P from Salt lake city

I'm on my fifth power for a 2011 Mac Book Pro. The previous four had the famous shredded coating and wires... you know, from "pulling on it too hard." As every CSR explained to me what I was clearly doing wrong. (For the record, my lap top stays home, in the same place. I don't even move it except to pull it on my lap).

My latest adapter died after 3 months after purchase and it's not even got the scary loose wires. it's in perfect condition - looks brand new, and the plastic is even still on it. SURELY Apple will replace this one right?

Apple has failed customers so badly in this arena, from power for phone or peripherals or computers. Such a terrible design and AWFUL CUSTOMER SUPPORT FOR THEIR FAILED DESIGN.

FIVE times I have shown my battered power cords to Apple, and five times they have denied that they have a problem.

i think the one star rating tells the story. I wouldn't even give a star if I could.

Cord Frays - Apples way to get you to buy more

    • Written by Lisa B from Philadelphia

Every Apple computer cord I have Frays by the power adaptor.
With all of the available material on the market to make cords why do you keep choosing a cheap plastic that frays. I have 3 different computers and each one has a frayed cord. Always by the adaptor.

For laptops people travel, they pack and use the cords daily. Pick a stronger material!

On my Third Charger now - They are rubbish !!!!

    • Written by Andrew D from Reading

For someone known for good design, Apple must have all bee on holiday they day they designed this!
The cable starts to come apart from the magsafe connector in less than a year, & then shortly after that the white outer cover starts to break up close by too.
For a charger costing £80 this is just rubbish
Shame you cannot give zero stars

About every two years I need to get a new charger because the cable melts and sparks.

Lucky I have been in the same room when noticing this and to avoid further damage, like my house burning down.

    Extremely poor durability........... AGAIN

    • Written by Jeff J from Half Moon Bay

I've owned 4 MacBook Pros and all of the connectors ALWAYS develop a weak spot right at the connector to the powerbook. This model is NO exception. I get tired of replacing these only to have the connector cable crack and shred at the plug side to the macbook. You would think after ALL THESE YEARS Apple could hire some engineers to design one that is durable. ALL my PC adapters are still original and with no cracking or shredding...so it can be done.......

Someone should do a major write-up on all the Apple failures like this it is reason enough to think twice before buying Apple. This review from an original Apple MacIntosh owner.....so was a big fan. Now buying my 3'd adapter for latest macbook pro...sigh

    Breaks down super easy

    • Written by Jeffrey G from chester springs

The charger is way overpriced for something that breaks down so quickly. The material that it is made out of falls apart similar to all apple chargers. It bends until it breaks open and frays. Horrible design. If it costs $80 it should last way longer.

    Bad design

    • Written by Gabriel O from MIami beach

It is disappointing how Apple failed to fix this design flaw. I have ended up buying 3 chargers in total because the end of the charging cable always snaps and renders the charger useless, much like the iphone lightning cables. Make it out of a more robust material!

Good charger, lasted 3.5 years for me

    • Written by Andrew C from Tracy

Not really sure why so many people hate on this charger. Sure the magnet is a little too weak, and sure it's pretty expensive, but I think this charger is a really good deal. I've had the one that came with my Mac for the past 3 and a half years, and it only started coming apart about six months ago, and it's only today that I decided to order a new one because it has fallen apart too much. Considering that it's $80, and it lasted me 3.5 years, you're only paying a little less than $2 every month for it, and that's if you use it every single day for well over three hours, putting it in and out of bags, bending it, tripping over it without having it pull my Macbook along with it, etc. I'd say this is a great value, definitely worth the money, and I'm going to go get a new one right now.
