    Cynical capture of added profit.

    • Written by Kenneth H from Woodham

You can't tell me that the designers at Apple are not aware of the ridiculously short lifespan of their power cables. As a captive client I am about to pay another £80.00 for the THIRD time since I purchased my macbook. Either they are too busy producing new products that sacrifice functionality for design in the race for the thinnest most expensive machine on the market or they make too much extra cash from the continuous replacement of a vital cable to address the problem.

Someone at Apple needs to wake up and attend to this problem, stop creaming off extra profit and stop providing a great product with a poor power cable.

    Incredibly weak product

    • Written by Oscar F from Bicester

The soft plastic cable split after 8 months of owning. The wire inside completely broke a week later. Terrible quality for the unjustifiable price.

This is my 4th charger in three years of using macbook and in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina charger costs 100 euros!!! I think with this rating you should do something about it. It's a shame for your company.

Awful product, rarely lasts a year

    • Written by Maria Gloria H from Nottingham

As with most of these reviews, this is the third charger I've had to buy in two years. The first stopped working when it overheated and the last is so frayed it no longer works. I've taken very good care of them but it obviously happens regardless. This never happened with the charger for my cheap HP laptop so it absolutely shouldn't be happening with an £80 charger for a (nearly) £2000 Macbook. I'm extremely disappointed and this puts me off replacing my Macbook when it eventually dies.

This charger overheats and eventually melts away the safety plastic around the wiring. I've had it for almost 4 years but for the price I payed, I would expect it to last much longer!

    Breaks every year

    • Written by Dennis R from London

I'm going to have to buy the third one of these now as they keep breaking on a yearly schedule. Just stops charging at some point. I still have an old MacBook charger from 2008 which is still in use daily and going strong after 9 years! Those new chargers are not what they used to be. Very expensive for a throw-away kind of product that breaks down every year. Just a few months after the warranty has expired of course!

Easily breaks at the beginning of the cable without visible problems. Constantly the charging stops and computer falls asleep because of the faulty this power adapter. Really bad quality.

    • Written by Lisa M from Downingtown

This is the weakest of all the Apple products. These adapters need to be replaced often. Horrible design. The area where the cord meets the box always frays leaving exposed wiring that sparks.

Junk. Hard to believe Apple makes this.

    • Written by Alex C from Morley

Aside from the genius magsafe connection, these charging cables themselves are very flimsy, become discoloured in just a few months and break at both ends over time no matter how kindly you treat them. Unfortunately Apple do not cover replacements for them either, leaving customers to pay £80 for a new charger once they break. It's the worst product Apple makes, I wish they would fix the issue. I'm about to purchase my 4th replacement over the ownership of 3 laptops (which means I'll be on my 8th charging cable in about 10 years). One of Apple's mantras is "we can't ship junk". If you count these cables, Apple does.

$1 cable flaw disrupting a $3000 MBP, sad!

    • Written by CHUCK N from ROEBUCK

The power adapters output side cord has a material flaw. My MacBook Pro's last an amazingly long time. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same thing about the power adapter, I've never had issues with the actual connection to the laptop itself. I have issues where the thin output cable running out of the charging brick itself. I am now on number 5 for two MBP's. They have degrading output cables, splits open and frayed shielding of the cable. Sad the power brick itself will still function if not for the poor thin cable breaking causing the complete system. It's a shame the apple has fallen so far from the innovative tree it once was. I'll modify the new one I buy today myself.

    Poor Quality- Shame apple

    • Written by Farbod B from London

The charger get overheated and the poor quality cable first turn to yellow and then frayed from the connection point. Despite the terrible reviews and negative customer feedbacks apple shop refuse the fault and I was told by Brent Cross UK Apple shop that this is cosmetic issue and nothing to do with the quality! The shop manager said there is no recorded issue with their cable quality! Do apple manager even read the reviews in their own website? 185 unhappy reviews our of 200 it means something!

Shame on you Apple to charge over £2000 for a Retina Macbook Pro and £79 for such a cheap quality charger. At least take some responsibility and increase the quality! Amazon brand chargers for Apple products will last far longer than Apple brand and their customer service always happy to help unlike the Apple team.

    Again Shame!

    terrible and way too expensive

    • Written by Joey L from New york city

Im not upset about the magnate being too weak or the charger ends fraying. I treated my macbook charger fairly well but yet it broke. We (my family) keep two macbook chargers in the house, one for a macbook and and another for a macbook pro. One day a charger stopped working,we weren't really that bothered until the second broke. We have no idea how, both chargers had just stopped working. I had tried everything forums said and nothing would work. And the price for a charger is ridiculous!

    Poor design

    • Written by Patricia V from Scottsdale

I have no complaints about the MAC PRO, works well with minimal if any issues. Power cord, however, not the same story at all. As many others have said, it has major flaws. Disconnect easily so you are constantly reattaching and the cord next to the magnetic connector splits and starts to fray after only a few months. I've had my current laptop 2 years. I am getting ready to order my 3rd cord. I am not rough on items at all, keeping laptops years and updating only due to features. I never have cracked a screen or needed any other part fixed or repaired. Yet the power cords are always the weak link, needing frequent replacement. This in my 2nd Mac laptop and I have owned desktops since the 90's-true MAC person. The laptop cords have been an issue and no improvements have been seen over the years. This is truly a disappointing feature to a fairly great and flawless system overall.

Appart from the expense I love mine

    • Written by Emily W from Brixham

I have no issues with the magnet on the charger, It stays put for me mostly. Sometime it means I have to adapt my position to accommodate it but thats a small price to pay for the easy disconnection, which I frequently need when walking about as Im always catching my feet in the wires. What this means is my Lap top is still in one piece as it disconnects rather than dragging the lap top with me! Thanks goodness!!

The only thing that I don't like is that over time the wire always seems to disintegrate at the head of the charger and I end up having to electrical tape it for a bit and then buy a new one. I feel given the price the plastic surround should be more durable at this point.

    Not value for money

    • Written by Ahmet Sertan Y from Istanbul

Spending 3500$ for a MacBook pro, and having such a low-quality power adapter only lasting for 14 months.
Same story like everyone. Strains on connector part of the cable. And needless to say overheating is another reason for my rating.

Someone in charge should change your priorities to "Durability > Design" for everything you name under "Pro". Or remove the "Pro" from your poor quality products.

Unfortunately not anywhere near as durable as the Macbook itself

    • Written by Mark J from Germantown

Macbooks will last a loooong time, the most durable computers I know of. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the chargers. I've had only a few issues with the actual connection to the laptop itself. I'm having an issue now where the thin laptop cable runs into the charger brick itself. It disintegrates and splits open revealing an alarmingly frayed magnetic shielding of the cable. It should be much more bolstered around this point to prevent excessive pivoting and straining of the cable. What it has is not enough. The next one I buy I will try to alleviate this weak point in the design.
