    Wonderful for $49 and attractive!

    • Written by David M from Seatt;e

I've had this thing for 3 years + and I've never had an issue, it's plugged into my Thunderbolt monitor. I'm copying a disc right now to iTunes and of course it's working great. I've burned a lot of movies and never an issue works perfect. No issues operating the thing, it spits out DVD's and CDs when I ask it to, never before or mysteriously. I'm really surprised hearing all the negative reviews on this. I didn't have to get one with what I have, but I felt that my computer would not be complete without a disc drive. Plus it's quite attractive as well.

    Embarrassing lack of quality

    • Written by Neil W from Calgary

Bought one, it would randomly eject disks and often couldn't read disks at all. Exchanged for another and had the same problem. Returned and bought a different brand (much cheaper, even!) and it works perfectly. It is crazy that Apple can't put a decent drive into this product as it *looks* nice :(

    Problems so far

    • Written by Julianne C from Omaha

I've burned over 10 Dvds on it already and all of them get errors in my DVD player and my playstation.. I've tried 2 different brands of DVDs and they are all DVD+R... i'm not sure what else to do. I've even converted files like i did on my windows pc... those always worked fine. the DVDs burned fast, but hopefully I can get them to start working and it's not an issue with the Superdrive itself.

    Great Product!

I don't know why some people have had problems with this product. It has worked great for me. I used it to rip 500+ CDs and counting!

    Would Recommend

    • Written by Jennifer B from DOWNERS GROVE

I bought this drive with a new macbook pro mid/late-2014. I have not had any problems with it but if I had, apple has been extremely helpful with solving any issues on my other devices when I bring them in. It doesn't claim to read or write blu-ray so I have never had an issue with expecting it to. As for any humming noises, I have heard some but they tend to be relatively quiet (considering it is an external disk reader). I would recommend this if you need it to install software from a disk or to burn CDs or DVDs. It does the job as described and has held up with moderate use. It is small and portable for laptops but if you are looking for something to just watch dvd's on your computer, there are other products that do the same job and cost far less. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and the quality of this product.

    It's..........so............slow

    • Written by Lucien D from Singleton

Hi. I must be just about Apple's number one fan and have numerous Apple devices. iPhone's, iPad's, iMac's....the list goes on. To add to my new iMac 27 Retina, I thought I'd indulge myself and purchase the Apple USB Superdrive. I've always wondered how it would be and this week I found out. It's painfully slow. On my old Sony USB CD/DVD writer, I can rip a 7GB DVD (using RipIt software) in around 25 minutes. The Apple Superdrive takes about an hour! So far, I haven't had any problems with it but it is so very slow. if you're contemplating this purchase too, be prepared for the length of time a DVD rip will take. I cannot recommend this unit purely because of the speed of the device. Finish and the feeling of quality are there, it's just the slowness.

    Not so super

    • Written by Aaron J from New York

There's nothing super about the Apple Superdrive. At first it could read most CDs, but within about a year it was spitting out some perfectly good CDs as "unreadable" and never was able to burn a DVD. Two years in, and it can't even bring a CD into itself. When I plug it into the computer there's a little clicking sound that indicates it's getting power, but without an indicator light I can't be sure. Anyway, it doesn't work. I expected more, both from Apple and for the price.

    does not work

    • Written by Yuri S from Arlington

Stumbles over regular CDs - spits them out as error Disk Not Found - and does not read or write Blu-ray. Better options available for your Mac.

Would be perfect if it also read/write Blueray

    • Written by Stephane Y from Magny le Hongre

Great drive, good-looking and reliable. I have used for 2 years now with 3 different Macs and never had any issues. If a Blueray version comes out, I'll happily buy another one.

    USB Superdrive

    • Written by Jack C from Sydney

Thought I'd spend more money ($120) & get an official apple external disk drive for my laptop & desktop Mac computers, as they annoyingly no longer come with disk drives. For some reason the disk I put in can not be read now by any computer, meaning that this drive is now pointless & I have to go all the way in to apple to fix this which should never have happened in the first place. Choosing to spend the extra money I just expected a product that actually worked, extremely disappointed.
