    Bad Design

    • Written by Robert C

It is terrible. No matter how careful I am, the cord will, sooner or later (and probably sooner), short out next to the connector that goes to the computer. Only recourse is to buy another.

    Terrible quality

    • Written by Daja T from Wilmington

The magnetic end that plugs into the laptop is starting to fray really bad; I've only had it for one year. I've taken good care of this charger, and while I like the design of it being able to be pulled out easily so it isn't injured, I think it still happens somehow. The wires are now visible. Do yourself a favor and avoid buying directly from Apple. Amazon has an option for $21. You can at least buy three of those and not spend as much as Apple charges for this hunk of junk.

I'm giving it one star because zero isn't available. On my third one in three years and I'm sure I'll go through more. Absolute garbage.

I bought my macbook air back in 2014 and the charger has lasted me, its been dropped and dragged around and only now has the plastic around the wires has started to tear, its a small tear and the charger works completely fine. its lasted me 4 going on 5 years and hopefully has much more life left in it. its a shame that if you need to replace your adapter its very expensive, unlike the newer adapters for the latest apple macbooks.

Im beyond annoyed because I've had my MacBook for 3 years and have had my charger replaced multiple times definitely at least 3 times. recently Apple refuses to replace the charger although theres visible heat damage and discoloration and I've reported it burning me on multiple occasions. A charger should not become hot enough or use a certain amount of energy to burn human skin. my computer is in great condition and i do not understand how a large company that makes a computer than last so long make a a charger that does not last even a complete year. My charger is not safe to use nor do they care to change it. A charger is 80 dollars which for a college student is not just a penny drop. The computer is already 1k the charger should not be that expensive.

    Perfect in every way!!

    • Written by Natalie B from Perth

I have been using the original charger from my mac book air mid 2012 since I bought it. This is a great product from my experience. It was perfect.

I recently lent my laptop once to a friend for uni late 2018. I got the charger back with major damage which is why I never lent it out before when this friend asked once before a few years ago. This time I thought why not, I don't need it right now, her laptop is in for repair, sure. She never told me, never apologised, never mentioned the damage. I look after my stuff so well and I just don't understand how people break things so easily. People on average just seem to be rough and blame the manufacturers or the company when usually it's the persons fault. But they don't want to blame themselves.

So like another person said, maybe I was just lucky, but I doubt it. On my experience with why I don't lend stuff out to people is because they just don't realise how rough they are with things and that they are the ones breaking things. Never lend your stuff unless you know the person takes care of things. I mean it, NEVER lend your possessions to people, even if they desperately need it for a uni assignment and try to make you feel bad if you don't. Disappointed in people who can't look after things. Rant over.

2nd time that i had to replace my charger

    • Written by marejon P from Hong Kong

On my 1st time having a charger i had them for 2 years. Then when i moved to a new apartment i was using the same charger and after a month. The charger wasnt working at all. It isnt blinking. Then i had to buy another one. After around 2-3 months the charger isnt working again. The same thing, the light isnt blinking. Im thinking of maybe purchasing another macbook or maybe should i check my macbook AND the charger to apple store ? Im worried if i purchase another charger, the same thing would happen again.

    Very Poor Quality

    • Written by Chris D from Duluth

I am about to leave my office to purchase my third MacBook Air power cord (same MacBook Air), second in the last two years. I am the president of a company and absolutely take extreme care when winding the thin cord around the two two braces. It is obvious that it doesn't matter how careful you are, the end of the cord that attaches to the power supply is going to fray and stop working. While I love the laptop, Apple should be ashamed for the way they build the power cord. I hate to say this, but it looks to me like this was a business decision by Apple to generate more revenue. If you rely on your MacBook Air for business like I do, I would suggest you always have an extra power cord available.

    A Fine Charger

    • Written by Timothy C from Santa Barbara

I've been using the charger that came with my mid-2012 MacBook Air since the day I bought it and have had no problems with it. Either I somehow got lucky with the quality of my charger in particular, or some people are just extremely rough on theirs. Take care of your tools and they will take care of you.

Apple 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter for MacBook Air

    • Written by Jenafer P from Hedgesville

I have a mid-2012 MacBook Air; it is currently 7 years old. I just replaced my power adaptor for the first time in 7 years due to the wires coming thru. Three cheers to Apple!!! I am very easy on all my power adaptors for my iPad's, iPhones; iMac'. I am always trying to make sure when I use the power cords they aren't all twisted up, etc. This really seems to help with them lasting longer than usual.

Thanks Apple for your products and I look forward to purchasing in the future with Apple.

Made in America is the better option! :)

What an embarrassment for one of the world's biggest tech firms

    • Written by Ralph K from Lymington

What an embarrassment for one of the world's biggest tech firms that it is unable to manufacture a power supply for its laptops which has a working life longer than 2 years! I've had a number of MBP's and time and time again the MagSafe power supplies fail on them. Just happened again, right before I need my MBP for an important meeting.

No quality control at apple - either that or deliberate inbuilt obsolescence. Either way, a total embarrassment - forget worrying about chasing pigeons around on your iPhone X in augmented reality, try to get the basics rights, muppets!

    What are you crying about?!?!

    • Written by Devin C from Bakersfield

I have had my MacBook Air since 2015. I mostly use it for school, which is a lot mind you. The adapter that came in the box has still been working for me. A few times the charge hasn't exactly worked but with a little adjusting it does just fine. The only real issue that I have had with it is a slight tear in my cord. The ease of removing from the magnetic port is also comforting since sometimes I forget I am plugged in or I step on the cord removing it safely from my computer with out damage. My previous computer didn't handle those problems well.

This is my 3rd charger in less than 2 years. The most recent charger lasted 5 WEEKS! I hate spending $85 a MONTH! If I would’ve known this charger was so unreliable and shorts out I would’ve never gotten the version of MacBook that goes with this charger

    The most flimsy, overpriced charger!

    • Written by Ayesha Z from London

I too have ended up buying two already - each time resenting the money I keep spending. The wire always breaks from the same point - right at the top where the charges goes into the computer. I've always been proud of the meticulous care I take of my gadgets but this charger is so flimsy that no matter how careful you are, it's guaranteed to break. I almost feel it's a deliberate move by Apple to make sure the charger doesn't last more than a year and the clients keep buying more!

Typical Apple product - obscenely overpriced Chinese junk

    • Written by Tim S from COPPELL

No matter how carefully you handle this adapter, the thin cable will split and the internal wires will become exposed and frayed within two years. I think Apple engineers have purposefully designed it this way.
