    This product is an embarrassment

    • Written by ALMA B from Chicago

Such beautifully designed sophisticated Apple technology and power adaptors that come from another world and potentially present danger to life. Just few months after normal use, the rubber insulation peals off the wires, if you touch exposed power wires, you know what possibly can happen. But this is not a new issue. I have been an Apple user for about 15 years at least, bought at least 6 products and this story keeps repeating. Why is it so hard to find insulating material that will not fall apart in just few months? And to pay 75$ is a hefty price for a power cord of terrible quality. I wish I could give it a zero. And I also wish I could attach a photo to show you how mine looks like. Apple, do something!

On my 3rd power adapter in 3 years

    • Written by Gary B from Leesburg

Come on Apple-You charge top dollar for EVERYTHING and produce this piece of c--p?
Mine will not establish a firm connection at the computer and requires a long and sometimes unsuccessful attempt to get it connected- I often get the "green" light but it will not begin to charge until I jiggle the plug ever so gently and then maybe it will establish a charging circuit.
Pure unadulterated horse puckey to have this occur so soon and so often and to add insult to injury charge me $80 for a new one.
You have me over a barrel-I have no option other than to get a PC or pay the outrageous price. Not a happy Apple camper

Still in fine shape after five years

    • Written by Gale A from Liberty

I still have my MagSafe 2 Power Adapter that came with my 2014 MacBook Air. I have never had a problem with it. It is still working just fine. I was shocked to see so many negative reviews. I must echo the reviewer who said that either I got lucky, or other people are inordinately rough on their equipment. I treat my chargers with care and they have all been good to me.

This charger is an absolute nightmare

    • Written by Madeline T from Brooklyn

Since it’s magnetic it always falls out. I can’t leave my Mac to charge ever because I know when I come back I’ll be disappointed to see that the charger once again disconnected from my Mac. This magnetic charger was a terrible idea on apple’s part. This is the most frustrating aspect of life itself. Whenever I try to use my Mac while charging it, it never works out because the charger is constantly falling out. Keep in mind that this is the first and probably only review I will ever write because I feel so passionate about my hate for this product and I feel that it ruins the perks of having a Mac.

    Poor design

    • Written by MANOJ K D from Lexington

I have used laptop from pretty much every brand in last 20 years. This is the first laptop with charger issue. If I break it is another issue, but getting a smell of wire burn is absolutely a design flaw (and dangerous). I have taken it to Apple store but it was not addressed to my satisfaction. I was suggested to buy a new one..

The one star reviews are not warranted

    • Written by Isabelle G from Miami Lakes

I really don't understand why there are so many 1 star reviews on this charger! I have had a Macbook Air since 2014 and I got my current one in August 2017. I have been using the same charger this whole time (around 5 years because the same charger is compatible with both of my Macbook Airs) and it only just started to fray. The only thing that is annoying is that because the charger is magnetic it is constantly getting disconnected by any little thing. I have 2 dogs so this happens all the time! It's not that big of a deal though and it's easy to transport in my backpack for school. It's a good charger in my opinion. Also, I used to have a Dell laptop and that charger only lasted a year. In comparison, this is a really good charger.

    Awful Quality

    • Written by Mandy M from Wolverhampton

Just about to order my 3rd replacement charger cable in 3 years. My charger never leaves the house so is not screwed up in a bag to get damaged. Far too flimsy, not the usual Apple quality.

I think this charger is just fine

    • Written by Jackson C from Lakeside

I was reading the reviews of this charger and the majority of them are all one star and everyone seems to have so much trouble with this charger. I, on the other hand, have never had any issues with it at all. The magnetic aspect is very cool and works just fine. The charger is super fast and has never shorted out on me before. Ive had mine for about 2 years now and it is still completely free of any wear and tear. Also, the green and orange led on the charger is very helpful because I don't like to leave my MacBook plugged in when it is already fully charged, and the green led always lets me know when it is time to unplug.

    Perfect power adapter

    • Written by Jeremy B from Las Vegas

Ive had 2 power adapters during the life time of my MacBook Air, which has been since 2015, and only have had to replace it once because one of my animals thought it would be a fantastic idea to make it a chew toy. lol. The current power adapter that I have now is almost 4 years old and still works perfectly. The only negative thing I have to say about this power adapter is that it does become alittle yellow on the smaller cord over time and I clean mine often so not really sure what causes it.

Not even frayed and having issues

    • Written by Megan W from Davisburg

Reading all of these reviews I'm no longer surprised, but I've had my MacBook Air for only six months and the charger started to have issues 3mo in. I've been able to get it back to function by the "waiting it out" game... but at this point it's stopped worked all together. No frays, no damage. If this has been an ongoing issue, Apple needs to step up and have some accountability for it already.

    Feeling RIPPED OFF!!!

    • Written by E B from Toronto

How can Apple not do something about a product with such an overwhelming number of bad reviews?! As usual, I babied my last replacement , yet it died at the age of 1 year and 1 month....just old enough to not be covered by the 1 year warranty. I'm seriously considering buying a cheap clone next time around, as it feels foolish continue to purchase these.

    Charger broke after FIVE days

    • Written by Aisha K from Gaborone

To say I am disappointed in this charger is an understatement, I just got my first MacBook laptop a week ago, the excitement of it, I’m sure a lot of you can relate. However within a week, the charger has already gone to the pits. It almost exploded not long ago, and mind you because of the battery life of my laptop I’ve only charged it THREE TIMES in the week that I have had it. I’m very mad and considering returning the laptop for a full refund.

What are you doing with your chargers?

    • Written by Jameelia S from Suffolk

I've had the same charger for nearly 5 years without any issues until now. The chord frayed in two places, but my computer and charger have been all over the place. The fact that it has managed to get me through so much including 3 years of me dragging it all over campus is beyond amazing as my first computer's charger barely lasted me a few months. I haven't had any issues with charging even with a frayed chord. The only reason I'm replacing it is for safety reasons.

Why doesn't apple recall this defective and unsafe product?

    • Written by Rebecca S from Mcallister

Apple has had a LOT of issues with power cords for its laptops, since the very first. After very careful use, I started to see wear in this cord near the plug, which was typical of all apple cords and I used a bit of tape to fix it. A few years later the cord is COMPLETELY shredded, I've never seen anything like it. It started cracking at points that would never see consistent wear, then huge chunks of the cord material fall off everywhere, I keep finding chunks of material left behind where I store the cord. After reading reviews from hundreds of other people who have the exact issue that I've experienced, how is this product not recalled? I called the company and they really don't care to keep customers safe or satisfied with their products.

    Not bad!

    • Written by Bárbara F from Linda a Velha

After wasting a LOT of money on my old MacBook Pro cable, I decided to be EXTRA careful with my new computer and charger. I've had this one for 3 years now, always doing my best not to bend it wrongly and always keeping straight. Unfortunetly the rubber is falling appart, even with all the care I had for it. I feel like it is a low quality product, and fo it to last, you REALLY need to take care of it. It's still working even tho the metal cable is showing in some parts, or is full of ducktape everywhere. I'm still getting a new since I feel this one will just die on me very sooon.

Would give 0 stars if possible

    • Written by Laura B from Clinton

Like everyone else, I have a cable that's fraying after only a couple years, at both the magnetic end and the other end where it connects to the brick. It's shoddy, flimsy and a fire hazard. This is the second new cord I will have had to buy.

    Terrible Product

    • Written by Wendy W from Montreal

Even if you take special care, the cord will still fray and not last. Same thing happens for my iPhone charger. The quality is so poor that it makes me wonder if it is not done on purpose to force existing customers to purchase more after a short amount of time. It's unfortunate, because I love my MacBook and I've had it for four years, but I am tired of having to buy a new power adapter every year...
