Beyond disappointed. I can't bring myself to buy another replacement (which I seem to be doing every year).

    Bad Apple

    • Written by MARK A from Brooklyn

My macbook air sits on my coffee table and the power cord is engaged 90% of the time and is never twisted up or abused. Inevitably the chord will begin to fray within 8-12 months. I've replace my AIr about 3-5 years so I'm are looking at around +3 power chords over that lifetime or around +$240. That's just BS and Apple can and should do better. At least provide a lifetime warranty for the power cords if you are going to refuse to build a better power supply.

TRASH - I Suspect Planned Obsolescence

    • Written by Chevon H from Snellville

3rd Charger in less than 3 Years. Completely trash. I exert the utmost care in making sure to not be careless with my charger, still ends up frayed for absolutely no reason. I had the same problem with the iPhone chargers before I switched to Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I feel you all use planned obsolescence to keep recapturing $$$ from existing costumers of your products. I love my Mac but hate the charging cord. Apple, step it up & do better.

    Poorly manufactured cord

    • Written by Nancy S from Naples

I find I am continuously purchasing a new adapter for $79. I've lost track of how many I've bought! It is the narrow part of the cord that attaches to the MacBoor Air that continues to fray. The rest of the product is perfect. It is the same with my power adaptor to charge my iPad and iPhone. Terrible waste of money and adds to environmental trash. Sad way for Apple to make money. Can't use the products without it though. Time to fix this Apple!

For these things to cost $80 they should be durable and last a long time. I have had to buy two within a year which is ridiculous.

    No issues

    • Written by Liane C from Auckland

I felt compelled to review this product after reading the other reviews. I have had three of these power adapters at each W level, the 45 since 2012 when I bought my MacBook air. The ONLY reason I have bought new ones is to have spares as I job share & don't always want to cart an additional lead around in my MacBook bag. All including the original are still charging fine, no fraying, no issues. I do look after them but not obsessively. They have all been kicking around under various desks, accidentally stepped on, accidentally dropped etc as you would expect with high use. I really have had no issues at all.

Now the lightning cables ... aah ... that is a WHOLE other matter! :)

    Bad Design

    • Written by Robert C

It is terrible. No matter how careful I am, the cord will, sooner or later (and probably sooner), short out next to the connector that goes to the computer. Only recourse is to buy another.

    Terrible quality

    • Written by Daja T from Wilmington

The magnetic end that plugs into the laptop is starting to fray really bad; I've only had it for one year. I've taken good care of this charger, and while I like the design of it being able to be pulled out easily so it isn't injured, I think it still happens somehow. The wires are now visible. Do yourself a favor and avoid buying directly from Apple. Amazon has an option for $21. You can at least buy three of those and not spend as much as Apple charges for this hunk of junk.

    • Written by Ella R from Brisbane

I bought my macbook air back in 2014 and the charger has lasted me, its been dropped and dragged around and only now has the plastic around the wires has started to tear, its a small tear and the charger works completely fine. its lasted me 4 going on 5 years and hopefully has much more life left in it. its a shame that if you need to replace your adapter its very expensive, unlike the newer adapters for the latest apple macbooks.

Im beyond annoyed because I've had my MacBook for 3 years and have had my charger replaced multiple times definitely at least 3 times. recently Apple refuses to replace the charger although theres visible heat damage and discoloration and I've reported it burning me on multiple occasions. A charger should not become hot enough or use a certain amount of energy to burn human skin. my computer is in great condition and i do not understand how a large company that makes a computer than last so long make a a charger that does not last even a complete year. My charger is not safe to use nor do they care to change it. A charger is 80 dollars which for a college student is not just a penny drop. The computer is already 1k the charger should not be that expensive.

    Perfect in every way!!

    • Written by Natalie B from Perth

I have been using the original charger from my mac book air mid 2012 since I bought it. This is a great product from my experience. It was perfect.

I recently lent my laptop once to a friend for uni late 2018. I got the charger back with major damage which is why I never lent it out before when this friend asked once before a few years ago. This time I thought why not, I don't need it right now, her laptop is in for repair, sure. She never told me, never apologised, never mentioned the damage. I look after my stuff so well and I just don't understand how people break things so easily. People on average just seem to be rough and blame the manufacturers or the company when usually it's the persons fault. But they don't want to blame themselves.

So like another person said, maybe I was just lucky, but I doubt it. On my experience with why I don't lend stuff out to people is because they just don't realise how rough they are with things and that they are the ones breaking things. Never lend your stuff unless you know the person takes care of things. I mean it, NEVER lend your possessions to people, even if they desperately need it for a uni assignment and try to make you feel bad if you don't. Disappointed in people who can't look after things. Rant over.

2nd time that i had to replace my charger

    • Written by marejon P from Hong Kong

On my 1st time having a charger i had them for 2 years. Then when i moved to a new apartment i was using the same charger and after a month. The charger wasnt working at all. It isnt blinking. Then i had to buy another one. After around 2-3 months the charger isnt working again. The same thing, the light isnt blinking. Im thinking of maybe purchasing another macbook or maybe should i check my macbook AND the charger to apple store ? Im worried if i purchase another charger, the same thing would happen again.
