    Poor Product

    • Written by Bob S from PHILADELPHIA

I've had Macs for over 30 years. By far, the most badly designed accessory for any Macbook or Mac Air or Mac Pro is the AC adapter. No matter how careful you are, the adapter breaks and shorts out long before it should; it's the Achilles heel of Apple products. At this writing, my early 2014 Macbook Air is like new, but the AC adapter just shorted out. Please, Apple, there's no reason for this.

    Charger broke within 4 months

After transporting my charger in my backpack, I was surprised to have found the cord to be frayed. Looks like a lot of people are having quality issues as well.

I feel like Apple have bent me over the table and...

    • Written by Robert W from Lincoln

What a joke... 4th one in two years (two for my macbook pro.... two for my air). The magsafe cable connector is a flimsy piece of junk. As others have said - it splits and frays really easily. Honestly, this charger is sooo poor, I'm contemplating going back to Windows. I'm sick and tired of spending £65 on these useless pieces of #### There, I said it... this charger is ####!

At least make it so the flimsy end can be detached and easily replaced. What a waste... I have four broken charger units in a box.... and about to order another. £325 on chargers.... Apple, you (draw into the mouth by contracting the muscles of the lips and mouth to make a partial vacuum) - your censorbot won't let me say that you [kcus]

I'm not swallowing this any more... thats it... yes - you've just lost a customer because of your useless piece of #### charger... oh, I also LOVE ANDROID!!!!!! does that hurt you? well, I bet it doesn't hurt as much as the pain you've caused my wallet!!!!

Terrible product, Apple seems to ignore these indicting reviews

    • Written by Justin W from Haddenham

Like many others here, I only bought this adapter because I was forced to, because the design is so poor that the first two I had have frayed where the cable attaches to the body. I am now on my third adapter in 18 months. How Apple can make such brilliant computers, but then power them with such a shoddy power accessory is beyond me. They clearly are not reading these reviews - every single adapter has terrible ratings and all for the same reasons. Apple: get your act together and stop producing junk and charging loyal customers huge amounts for a basic necessity.

I have owned MacBooks for 7 years now and the chargers are the worst part of these products. I have gone through 4 chargers, which is so expensive and frustrating! If this model doesn’t change, I will definitely seek out a different brand cause this is ridiculous.

    Disposable charger

    • Written by Anna L from Mount Hood Parkdale

It's almost as if this charger has a self destruct setting. After using it for 2 years (not doing anything out of the ordinary, always coiling it loosely for transport) the area around the magnetic connector began to fray and a few days later the area coming out of the square adapter started to fray. Within a week of the fraying the charger stopped working. The other end of the charger (from the square adapter to the power source) is perfectly fine and shows no signs of wear. This has happened with every single macbook charger I have owned over the years (6 in total). I have both an HP and a Macbook. My HP charger has lasted for nearly 5 years, shows no signs of giving up and only costs $15 to replace. Having to pay $80 for a charger that is essentially disposable from a company that prides itself in quality, ingenuity and integrity is ridiculous. I love my apple products but something should be done to fix this problem and keep plastic out of landfills. It's a cord and if HP can do it, Apple should be able to do it.

Is apple even reading these reviews?

    • Written by Dillon E from Indianapolis

These chargers are the most poorly made electronic accessory I have ever owned. I'm always careful about wrapping it it up properly before putting it away but the cord is still frayed within a year. I now buy them non-genuine from Amazon and they're way better and WAY less expensive.

    Very expensive and too frail

    • Written by Kike W from Severn

This cable is too expensive for something that breaks easily. I got my laptop late 2015 and already it's broken. For something that breaks easily, why should I be paying $80.00 for it. For a big name as Apple, this is so wrong and a rip off. If Im paying this much money on a laptop. Why is the quality of the cable so low??????

    5th Charger in Four Years

    • Written by Jacob D from Fredericktown

I am very careful with my technology products and I have had to buy multiple chargers for my MacBook Air because the chord keeps breaking. The external material bunches up toward the end of the charger, the internal wires detach, and the charger becomes inoperative. I am very frustrated with the quality of this product, given its high price.

    Garbage

    • Written by ANDREW N from Brooklyn

I have been an apple owner for 2 decades. other than the original mac book with the awful hinges, this is hands down the worst product. It frays and shorts out at the magnetic end of the adapter. It does not matter how gentle you are. Apple, you should fix the issue, and replace these for free. This is the kind of issue that makes you lose customers, and yet you do nothing.

    Bad Apple

    • Written by MARK A from Brooklyn

My macbook air sits on my coffee table and the power cord is engaged 90% of the time and is never twisted up or abused. Inevitably the chord will begin to fray within 8-12 months. I've replace my AIr about 3-5 years so I'm are looking at around +3 power chords over that lifetime or around +$240. That's just BS and Apple can and should do better. At least provide a lifetime warranty for the power cords if you are going to refuse to build a better power supply.

Terrible, but what are you going to do?

    • Written by Elizabeth H from Round Rock

These cables never seem to last more than a couple of years, and for the last stretch are always held together by electrical tape. They heat up near the connector when in use (notably when doing anything processor-intensive), and over time the jacket starts breaking apart exposing the wires. I'm about to buy my third cable for a three and a half year old MacBook Air.

    2nd Charger Snapped...

    • Written by Jack E from Carlisle

I don't see the need in re-typing what everyone else seems to be saying. Build quality, price, reliability... all unacceptable. You can create a Mac that can do pretty much anything and is amazing... yet you can't create a plastic charger that doesn't fall to pieces.

I've never written a review before but this charger deserves one

    • Written by Michael L from Jacksonville

After less than five months after I unboxed my Macbook Air it stopped working. So I went out and purchased another one and now 18 months in, I have to buy another 45W charger and this is utterly ridiculous. I'm at the point where people on the engineering team need to be fired for the poor quality that comes with the MagSafe 2 charger. I'm two seconds away from finding out who is response for the chargers and starting a petition to have them resign.

    Poor quality

    • Written by Robert N from Harrisburg

Have had mine for less than 1 year it it already is broken. I started noticing some wear and tear around 8 months, however just last week I noticed my laptop was not charging. I went to inspect the cord and I found that there was exposed wire, with sparks coming out! For the price I paid for my laptop, I did not expect to have to purchase a new charger 1 year later. My chargers from my other laptop (compaq) have lasted me 8+ years with barely so much as a scratch. Totally disappointed with the quality, however I have no choice but to buy another one. Please Apple, update the quality of your products.

TRASH - I Suspect Planned Obsolescence

    • Written by Chevon H from Snellville

3rd Charger in less than 3 Years. Completely trash. I exert the utmost care in making sure to not be careless with my charger, still ends up frayed for absolutely no reason. I had the same problem with the iPhone chargers before I switched to Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I feel you all use planned obsolescence to keep recapturing $$$ from existing costumers of your products. I love my Mac but hate the charging cord. Apple, step it up & do better.

    • Written by Angela S from El Prado

Ok. I own the MacBook Pro and a newer Mac air. On the MacBook Pro, I had to replace my cord 3 times in6 yers. On my Mac air, I have had to replace it 2 times in 3 yrs. Now I’ve experienced major crackling, sizzling sounds from 3 of the different cords. They all get VERY hot after a couple hours.
These things are over priced for what you get. No Apple product should snap crackle n pop and I’ve experienced it several times with different cords. They burn out quick. Surge protector or not- it doesn’t matter. I WISH WISH WISH they would come up with a better design. I love me some Apple but these chargers are sh#!
